CHEVROLET CAPTIVA test drive since 2011 crossover

Chevrolet Captiva: Dedicated to American trames

On the right, a colleague, similar to Quentin Tarantino, is on the steering wheel of the Chevrolet emblem, and a car cemetery at such sites is visible in front of Hollywood directors usually take off a showdown of cool guys. Hello, America?

What America? We rush along the Austrian autobahn on the Korean SUV and listen to German rock! But the machine, updated by Chevrolet Captiva, persistently evokes American associations. However, the CHEVROLET crossover seemed to seem to be a real American initially: from its overseas brothers, the large all -wheel drive tracks Captiva adopted smooth and imposing reactions, as well as the characteristic design of the cabin of large saucers, flat driver's chair and large steering wheel. What did the restyling changed?

The architecture of the salon and ergonomics remained the same as the machine continues to delight with a high landing and huge ranges of adjustments. But stylistically the interior was transformed noticeably. Now the visual center of the front panel, made of soft plastic, is a huge shot of the multimedia system: the 7-inch TV looks spectacular, shows beautiful pictures, but ... mercilessly glitters in the sun. This is especially annoyed when navigation is displayed on the screen: you go through a tense denouement, a pleasant female voice voices future maneuvers, cast a short look at the display to check the trajectory, and there is no nothing! Maybe it was worth transferring him lower or hid deeper?

But the rest of the interior innovations liked it: the bluish backlight is more pleasant than the old green, updated devices are excellently read, and the absurd handler skocker disappeared from now on the captiva of the electromechanical parking brake, which is activated by pressing the button. A comfortable central console, which has a cup holders and a decent clothing compartment (the latter’s company, is spacious pockets in the doors, a huge glove compartment, as well as a retractable dish under passenger seats).

The updated captivation did not bring new sensations in the movement: the increased stiffness of the springs and the increased thickness of the stabilizers, I went unnoticed by the crossover, retained the imposition, demonstrating the low sensitivity of the steering wheel and calm reactions, although the creators promised improvement of controllability and reduction of rolls. However, who wants to master the rearrangement and write out police turns on a large seven -seater crossover? The task of the captive to deliver the owner and passengers from point A to point B smoothly and comfortably. According to this part, the updated captivist performed noticeably stronger than the predecessor!

No, we never complained about the lack of smoothness, since the previous generation of the crossover overcame the large bumps and a small comb. But other shock absorbers, silent blocks and vibrations under the springs made the suspension truly omnivorous: the icy diluses of the winter lean of the crossover flies so confidently as if under the wheels the perfect autobahn.

Also, the crossover got rid of interior crickets, which in the previous car annoyed on an uneven road. The level of acoustic comfort has also increased significantly: in order to achieve this, engineers installed a new windshield, more advanced door seals, special overlays on the side panels of the body, other shelters and the upholstery of the ceiling. As a result, nothing prevents the passengers from calmly communicating or listening to music even diesel machines surprised by silence.

The Russians will finally be offered crossovers consuming heavy fuel: the restyled captivist received a modern 2.2-liter turbodiesel that produces 184 hp. Power and 400 nm of torque (a deformed version of 163 hp and 350 nm will also be presented on the European market. And this engine is damn good! It is quiet, economical and has an excellent traction reserve: a slight press on the pedal so that the heavy crossover begins to confidently accelerate, demonstrating unexpected agility. The new 6-speed guidrotransformer machine is also not a mistake, the box pleased with the high rate of fire and correctness. The basic versions of the crossover have 6-speed mechanics.

A gasoline machine equipped with a new 3.0-liter engine (258 hp, 288 Nm) and a 6-band automaton left similar sensations. With this power unit, the captivist is more powerful and more acutely reacts to the accelerator pedal, although it is more interesting and more convenient to control the traction of the diesel version. But the new 2.4-liter gasoline engine openly disappointed: it is 167 horses and 230 Newton of the moment to slowly roll around the city, but an attempt to accelerate the torment. And this is on the mechanics! In general, we recommend choosing a 3.0-liter gasoline or diesel engine to potential buyers of a cross.

The updated captivist has changed a lot outwardly. Leaving the former design of the stern, the GM designers detached the sidewalls and painted a completely new front, making the appearance more dynamically: a large separated radiator grill appeared, the headlights were aggressively narrowed. Now the captivist resembles his aggressive front -line ... his main competitor Mitsubishi Outlander XL! However, it is too early to call competitors, since sales in Russia start only at the end of the year.

Summing up the results of our acquaintance, we summarize: after restyling, Kaptiv did not lose his pseudo -American charm, but became more interesting than the predecessor. In motion, the novelty is more dynamic, thanks to new engines and gearboxes. The finalized suspension and improved sound insulation made the crossover more comfortable. The interior has been significantly redesigned. Kaptiva has preserved the previous advantages of a spacious interior, high landing, huge ranges of adjustments, and the new front hand successfully refreshed the confused image.
