Test drive BMW X5 E70 2007 - 2009 SUV
Life of loan
The first station that caught the radio transmitted Greek church chants. The stichecus, who brought out the monks of the Athos monastery, clicking on car locks and locks of seat belts, as well as a synthetic voice of the navigation system, confirming the correctness of the selected path-all this was very reminiscent of the first frames of some criminal drama. Like guys pray before leaving the arrow, and the name of the protagonist-the new BMW X5 should appear on the screen. All this, of course, is nonsense. No, it really happened in Greece, not so far from the city of Soloniki and very close to the place where Sasha Macedonian, whose surname, in the irony of fate, met his death, was a soloik. Only the criminal plots associated with the BMW X5, most likely ended with the release of the Boomer film 2. When this car appeared on our roads in the millennium, the police statistics said that every second owner of the X5 came into criminal encroachments. Only all this ended very quickly. Enemies won, if not reduced, then the number is for sure. Our people bought so many X-fifth that in the life-affirming column of these machines, firmly occupied the left extreme stripes, and bad people from among car owners and even more poor from among the conocrays were also dissolved without a trace. So today the BMW X5 is not criminal, but simply a very adult car. You know, goods for adults are marked with XXX. So, this car has five such eggs, much more old.
It seems that they understood this in Munich. On the new X5, of course, there is an IDRive system. However, the designers with designers nevertheless went to meet those adult solid people who considered it tedious to defeat in the jungle of a computer controlled by a silver puck, only in order to satisfy their most innocent whim. Now, at the central console, as many as eight hot buttons lined up in a row, each of which can be set up for your favorite radio station, your favorite phone number or your favorite address that the navigation system remembers. The console itself now turned a little to the driver, as in the present BMW. Of the new decoration materials, of course, you should pay attention to the bamboo, for the first time used by BMW for interior decoration.
The new BMW X5 is so far the only car in the segment that can be equipped with an adaptiveDrive system that controls the shock absorbers and stabilizers depending on the speed, rotation angle of the steering wheel, longitudinal and transverse accelerations and much more. Today, all the components included in the system are exchangeed four times faster thanks to the Flexray bus. Someone will say: think, before the response time was 10 milliseconds, and now-2.5. Having taken the calculator in your hands, you can calculate that at a speed of 240 km/h, for 10 milliseconds, car passes about 6.7 meters, and 1.5 milliseconds - 1.7. For these fractions of seconds and meters it makes sense to fight.
In the cabin, now there was a place not only for bamboo, but also for those who eventually learn to smoke. The new X5 still became almost 19 cm longer. And the point is not only that the new generation of any model is always more chubby. It’s just that all competitors now have a third, children's shop. Therefore, today it also has X-Fifth.
It is only a pity that the designers tried to camouflage the increased dimensions and did everything so that the new X5 would look like their younger brother - BMW X3: the same chopped lines and slanting headlights. Although there are also pleasant moments. In the previous X5, the feed was decided so that with an habit, it might seem that the car had lost a bumper somewhere on the road. Now this part is on the spot. But there is no spare wheel, and where to put it, if in the trunk you need to leave the place for the third bench. Therefore, the default tires - runflat, even if all four wheels are broken, you can reach the airfield, or rather - to the service.
For a very long time, when there was no SAV, but also SUV on the roads, and the computer - ordinary staff - cost the same as the car, many of us played the game called Comanche. It was a helicopter simulator: depending on the mission, you flew above the mountains or jungle on the turntable, if I am not mistaken-RAH-66 from Boeing-Sikorsky, and shot around from the gun, then with a rocket with thermal confusion, then something else with something else useful. In the corner of the screen, numbers flashed, counting your speed and height. It seemed that everything was possible.
The feeling of dejavu appeared among the hills surrounding the Greek capital. The new BMW X5 at high speed smoothly entered the turns, changed the height and seemed to not rode, but flew. These three-dimensional movements in space were not felt at all-neither rolls, nor any overloads during accelerations and volumes, as if I really sat not inside the car, but in the chair in front of the monitor. The very surroundings are the most fighting: on the one hand, the road is the place of the marathon, from where the messenger fled with the news of the battle, on the other, the cemetery, where the ancestors of today's Bavarian motorblasts who conquered Greece in the last world war were buried. On the windshield, the speed of the car was projected, and occasionally arrows appear, showing which way it is necessary to turn in to fulfill the mission. Under the right hand was a joystick, very similar to the one that the mentioned Comanche was controlled for a very long time.
By the way, it was with the joystick that at first the bad luck came out. The new X5 is equipped with exclusively automatic boxes, which, from the point of view of marketing, is reasonable - on the previous model, only every twentieth buyer chose mechanics. The machine is controlled by the very joystick on the central tunnel. The joystick does not fix his provisions: pushed him forward - the car rides back, pushed back - he went forward. For those whose hands remember PRND in the same way as QWERTY on the keyboard, there will be no problems. But if you feel like a computer player, then where, excuse me, logic? Indeed, to move forward, you intuitively and pull the lever in the same direction!
And also on the trigger must be pressed very carefully. After all, a 4.8-liter gasoline V8 develops 355 hp. Up to hundreds of such a X5 starts in just 6.5 seconds, and just in case, they decided to limit the maximum speed not by 250, but 240 km/h. There is also a in -line gasoline six, which even the language does not turn to call a weaker power unit. Let someone say that 277 hp. And 8.1 seconds to 100 km/h is not enough. Enough. Especially when you consider that you are not sitting in a sparked sportsar, but in a rather high and overall Sport Activity Vehicle. Well, there is another three -liter diesel with a capacity of 235 hp, if anyone is interested.
In all other respects, hard and software will help again, which has become even larger in the new BMW X5. Especially for the new BMW X5, the DTC traction system was tuned, which improves the off -road characteristics of the car, without immediately interfering in the operation of the engine and brakes so that you can start moving with slipping in snow or sand. This is the first car in its class, which is equipped with an active steering control with Servotronic hydraulic power control. It additionally adapts the transfer number to the current speed and thereby increases maneuverability. And when braking on the road with a heterogeneous coating, a breakdown in the skid will prevent a short pulse of the steering mechanism in the direction opposite to the drift. Indeed, unlike a movie or computer simulator, the BMW X5 driver does not have two lives in reserve.
