Sister
The publication of a compact crossover called the BMW X1 could only mean one thing: x3 were going to retireIn fact, everything turned out differently: BMW X3 safely stepped into the next generation. So the third is alive and healthy, in vain worried! But if so, then a completely logical question arises: why do you need BMW X1, both in size, and in running qualities, and even outwardly very distinguishable from X3? These cars are like two sisters. The eldest is more serious, more modest, the younger fashionista, who sleeps with a plush bear at home. Accordingly, their buyers who belong to various groups acquire, which, nevertheless, cannot, in our opinion, serve as an excuse for the presence of another compact crossover in the BMW lineup, although the Germans try to differentiate these cars (in particular , the X3 buyers are available a powerful 3-liter turbo engine not provided for a penny). One way or another, this modification nevertheless appeared in the lineup of the Bavarian company. And our task is about what it is.
Portrait
Outwardly, X1 is unambiguously female car: elegant, with interesting forms, and most importantly, it does not have aggression (largely due to small wheels), unlike other models of this manufacturer. On the contrary, this is a vulnerable fragile girl, although quite confident. In general, something between the crossover and the BMW car.
From the salon, perhaps, you expect more. Yes, outwardly it is of high quality and convenient (and in fact it is), but the finishes, for example, are far from the best, the interior does not seem to be luxurious at all, on the contrary, it is somehow too simple. The places inside are enough: the back row of seats is unlikely to be inferior to X3 and 3-RII in comfort (though a whole story). But the trunk volume is quite modest (a little more than 400 liters).
Driving qualities are correct, Bavarian very pleasant dynamics with almost any motor, an adequate automatic box, an excellent chassis, combining excellent handling and decent smoothness. Of course, driving comfort is not perfect: the suspension is nevertheless perceived as a tough than as a plush, but this is a pleasant rigidity, not excessive.
