Before the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo video presentation, guests were handed out to the guests with the inscription: look at the BMW -friendly eyes. However, even without glasses it was noticeable that the unusualness of the new model looked quite convexFrom the face, the new Bavar resembles the 5th series, which puffed out the cheeks to almost volumes of the seven and clearly grew up at the withers. But as the on -duty bypass, the resemblance to the usual, somewhat stressively Bavarian sedans evaporated, having nullified at the moment when my sightseeing tour reached the rear part of the new BMW. Here I carefully go to the most delicate place of my story, namely the impressive stern of the Munich GT. Similar assessments are subjective. I fully admit that the new BMW will seem elegant to you, like a piano on 19-inch wheels. But, perhaps, you will still pay attention to the contrast that the trunk chest forms with such air features as a non -ramous glazing of doors and an elegant slope of the corn -shaped roof. Nowadays, no self-respecting company can do without a model with a fashionable body type 4-door compartment. The appearance of the same BMW X6 can look at how attractive this design bend may look, and no one is embarrassed by the difficult grace of his lifted heating. But the GT is not a crossover, and, of course, you expect the roof trend will end with something more consistent with it. You expect to see variations on the Aston Martin Rapid or Porsche Panamera. Instead, this is stereokino.
However, communication with BMW representatives showed that they did exactly what they wanted to do, and are very satisfied that the novelty of the decisions they adopted. As for Panamera and Rapidy, BMW GT is something completely different, even if we get tired of arguing who is not a competitor to whom.
Double bottom
Much is explained when trying to open what is hidden behind a new feed design - the trunk. GT is double. When pressed on one of the buttons, the end cover leans back - a relatively small hatch in which you can put a suitcase of standard sizes. At the same time, the trunk, as in the ordinary sedan, remains isolated from the salon, the inhabitants of which will not concern either the noise of loading, or drafts, or smells. And when pressing the second button, the electric motor open the trunk lid along with the rear window, like the fifth door at the hatchback or SUV, and something really large can be placed in the resulting opening. The trunk itself does not affect with a volume of 440 liters, but with a lowered partition and folded rear seats for lobby, 1700 liters become available. Almost the station wagon, although the partition is not reclining to the end and does not form an even cargo sex.
Yes, we know that for the first time such a door appeared on Skoda Superb, ”agrees Matthias Kinz, the project manager of the BMW GT project, but we have a completely different design. It uses a rigid transverse frame, which gives the entire scheme increased strength. There is no question of any borrowing.
Even more, the position of the bodies becomes clear when planting on the rear seats. The GT threshold is not as high as the SUV, and not as low as that of the sedan. You do not sit down, and do not climb, but just enter the car. The legs for the legs behind - as in the new seven. For the head - this weak place of all components - as in X5. And gradually the internal causes of such a weighty back design become clear (see insert).
Ten years ago, BMW had only four models: three, five, seven and Z3, ”says Mattias Kinz. - And yet it was believed that we have everything and nothing else needs to be invented. It was then that we brought to the X5 market. This decision seemed controversial to many. Not everyone immediately accepted the new model. We believe that the BMW GT is the same innovative step as the X5 was at one time. Now are the difficult times for business, but it seems to us that it is difficult times that is the most suitable moment to demonstrate entrepreneurial courage. GT is a fundamentally new type of car that combines the advantages of a representative class, crossover and station wagon. Presenting GT, we create a new segment of the automobile market.

I stretch my legs, sitting on the back sofa, which, if desired, can be replaced by a couple of individual chairs. Well, what is not the seven? Then I transplant forward and go around the luxury of the salon. Nappa skin. Luke in the roof and retractable blinds on the windows. Four varieties of natural wood to choose from. The front panel is like a new seven. Then I study the dimensions of GT: the base is exactly like the new seven, the track almost coincides. And in some GT even surpassed the flagship model. For example, GT pupils for daylight headlights are used for the first time on LEDs. And also for the first time, aluminum doors and hood appeared on the mass model of BMW. And everything is ripening the question: what does it have to do with it, in fact, the 5th episode?
Here it is - happiness!
To my great regret, I do not drive BMW cars every day. But this has its advantages. Whenever I get into Bavarz during tests, for me a little the first. BMW cars behave differently. And even the same car can change its manners depending on the numerous settings that its richest engineering equipment offers. So, on the BMW GT using the Dynamic Drive Control system, you can influence the operation of the transmission, suspension and steering system, change the sensitivity of the gas pedal. This can be done using Normal, Comfort, Sport and Sport+buttons, which turns off the stabilization system. At the same time, the chassis and transmission can be adjusted separately if you climb deeper in the Idrive menu. Nevertheless, there is something more important that unites all brand cars. This sensation is similar to a sense of ordinary human happiness. It can be sharp, as during a parachute jump, or peaceful, like a leisurely conversation by the fireplace. But the basis of all these incomparable at first glance happiness is something deeper, without which no happiness is impossible - a feeling of inner health, physical and spiritual. This health can be enjoyed in different ways, but it is it that is the basis of everything. This is a feeling of the internal health of the chassis, engine, transmission, salon, all a well -thought -out and verified structure accompanies the wheel of any BMW car. And BMW GT is no exception.
This feeling gives a lot that there is in it. And the latest 8-band machine, which recently appeared on the BMW 760i. And the new in -line gasoline six is \u200b\u200bthe next peak of the Bavarian engine (see insert). And the air suspension on the rear axle, which, together with the above Dynamic Drive Control, is included in standard equipment. And the Adaptive Drive option with adjustable shock absorbers. And the Integral Active Steering system with the steering wheel drives, thanks to which a long car in corners seems to shorten.
I will not dwell here in detail on the characteristics of the behavior of GT. I only note that the car as a whole is felt on the road as more focused on comfort than ordinary BMW sedans. You will not get such comfort even in the 7th series, ”Matthias boasts. But all these, in essence, are nuances, even if very important and under other circumstances are able to make a topic for a separate article about the features of the passage of various turns and reactions to different quality asphalt. Here I want to dwell on the main thing, which, in my opinion, is the essence of this model.
A lot is said about the excellent driver qualities of BMW cars, and all this fully applies to the seventh series. The only problem is that in the representative car, all these advantages in most cases disappear in a bushing for the owner who, by status, is supposed to sit behind and enjoy his power over a wonderful machine only by means of a button that pushes the seat in front of the sitting service personnel. And although in Germany, for example, more and more people easily use the seven as an everyday vehicle, in general it is somehow not customary to buy such a car for home and family.
The creators of GT call their brainchild a new class of cars, uniting the merits of the sedan, station wagon, crossovers and even a hatchback, if you want. This car (including in price) occupies an intermediate position between the five and the seven. Nevertheless, GT looks and feels so closer to the 7th series that it is just right to call it a turned off the Bavarian flagship. Do not really make a station wagon from the seven! We decided to make GT. And now, with its strange mixture of the pop roof and pragmatic stern, you can enjoy all the advantages of the 7th model, without causing frightened, wary, oblique, gazed, or simply perplexed views.
Big German cars have such a political correct line that with some reservations can be called false modesty. I will not say that the Bavarian novelty managed to discard it, but in any case, the stereo GT is one of the most interesting phenomena of this year.
