In the XXI century, it is not enough to make just fast driver. Of the press releases, it is clear that BMW clearly succeeded in this by introducing the Efficientdynamics program. On the example of the new BMW523 sedan, we decided to find out how the Bavarians managed to combine the drive with savings.

It would seem that the previous five did not have time to become obsolete: in the aesthetic sense. Aggressive forms, powerful faces and a rapid streamlined body are still put into a frenzy and give birth to a desire to immediately bring the Bavarian projectile in a way.

But that was the top five, Chris Banlla, and his current replacement Adrian Van Hoydonka. The previous model promised the extravaganza of drivers, and the new, among other things, also Efficient Dynamics: effective dynamics. And if you look closely, then even in the appearance of 5-Series you can distinguish traces of reduced appetite to fuel.

The headlights have lost their former predatory squint now their corners are again directed down (by the way, the reverse tendency was previously traced: for example, when Treshka E46 changed the 36th body). The ribs on the sides of the body now under them are shallow stamping are completed by a spoiler performing on the edge of the rear lamp.

The window sill, parallel to the ribs, crossing the previous five from the bend of the hofmayster to the trunk, disappeared: this has a new model visually shorter, and now it is more difficult to confuse even the amateur with the seven. At first glance, the dashboard looks extremely simple and uncomplicated. But if you look closely, you notice that it is combined: an information display is very neatly inscribed in it, effectively merging with the black background of the tidy.

It is interesting that the display screen affects the lower part of the tachometer and the entire Efficientdynamics scale, which displays fuel consumption and the effectiveness of recovery of inhibition energy. For a surcharge, you can also put a projector displaying the basic data on the windshield for the first time such a method for displaying devices of devices on the BMW M5.
The average console is deployed 7 degrees to the driver; On it, as usual, compact and laconic clusters are presented with everything necessary for the driver. A very convenient and interesting solution: the main thing is to get used to the transmission unlock button (from the side on the handle) and to the fact that the parking is not a position, but also the key on the selector end.

Our test five rear-wheel drive sedan BMW 523 with a new 8-speed automatic. When all -wheel drive versions appear, it is still unknown, but the Touring station wagon will not wait long for the dealers by mid -September.

Under the hood of our car, a 2.5-liter 204-horsepower engine: the weakest in the range. But can BMW afford to be not dynamic enough? It is unlikely.
However, the ideology of Efficientdynamics has left some imprint on the behavior of the car. In the usual transmission mode, the sedan withstands a pause before the response to change the position of the gas pedal and smoothly switches the speed. Nevertheless, the motor hardly disperses the sedan, demonstrating good dynamics.

And most importantly, excellent performance indicators, because it is the most lean from gasoline engines. With a leisurely driving manner, the fuel consumption indicator did not exceed 12 liters per 100 km of path, and this is more than good for a sedan with such an engine and a box.
But the hands of themselves are drawn to cross the selector to the left, turning on the sports regime. After all, a good speaker for BMW sounds like an insult?!

And the situation is radically changing! It is worth touching the right pedal and the BMW sedan shoots like stung. The dynamics of the acceleration has changed dramatically, the revolutions are kept, not dropping outside the boundaries of the zone of maximum torque. Response to the accelerator lightning -otic; Five follow the gas pedal, like a tail behind a comet! And I no longer care that each press on the brake pedal returns energy back, charging the battery

And controllability! It is perhaps more interesting to steer with this bimmer than many other civilian Bavarians. Despite the fact that the management here, for the first time, is completely electric, no losses exactly and information content!

Naturally, in addition to low parking speeds, in which the opposite effort seems to be absent at all. And with growth in speed, severity increases exponentially. The introduction of an electric power also hello from Efficientdynamics. After all, the hydraulic wrap would constantly demand the energy of the engine for its operation, and the electric power consumes only in maneuvers.
Of the pleasant options, the absence of which I had to regret on the test machine, you need to highlight the system of dynamic adjustment of the rigidity of the suspension. In the new generation, it was expanded due to the active suspension of Dynamic Drive and was called Adaptive Drive.

The active suspension is really adaptive: it reads accelerations in the transverse and longitudinal directions, the speed and angle of rotation of the steering wheel, selecting suitable shock absorber settings and maintaining stability using stabilizers on axes.
Removing the swing almost to zero, the active suspension also allows you not to experience discomfort on our roads, which in St. Petersburg after winter can already be called such. And with a standard suspension, medium and large potholes are better to either take, or move with a turtle speed: hard!

Once upon a time, reflecting on the tuning of my VAZ eight, I sincerely regretted that in the car you could not make a button that would turn comfortable (if this word is applicable to vases) and an economical car into a hard and fast sports car, changing the engine settings, gearboxes and gearboxes and gearboxes and Suspensions with a steering mechanism.
Ten years ago, it seemed to me a crazy fruit of naive imagination. But today BMW has embodied this idea. Dreams Come True?..
