Audi Allroad test drive since 2012

The first -generation Audi Allroad was a child of a compromise. While Mercedes and BMW have advanced their full -sized SUVs with might and main, they decided to save and released the AlloDae, in Ingolstat. In fact, it was a variant of deep factory tuning of the Avant station wagon. He was put on high wheels and equipped with a pneumatic suspension that allows you to change the clearance. In the lower position, Alload was no higher than the traditional station wagon and allowed to rush along the highway at a speed of 250 km/h, and only massive overlays on the wheel arches gave out an off -road character. At the same time, leaving the asphalt, Allroad could rise above the road above most of the SUVs, which allowed to confidently storm the ruts and slopes and made it truly universal. In addition, a version with a mechanical checkpoint could be ordered with a demultiplitor for a surcharge.
The all-terrain vehicle turned out to be very successful, but the sale of competitors with their full-fledged jeeps was still higher, which forced Audi to build a huge Q7, oriented mainly to the American market (recall that the Mercedes ML and BMW X5 gather in the United States). It could be assumed that the story of Allroad would end there, but Audi marketers decided differently and launched a new generation of an all -terrain vehicle, which is easier and more dynamic than a full -size SUV.
In order not to create internal competition with the Q7, the new Allroad has lost bright -exposed off -road elements like unpainted bumper and mighty wheel arches. The road clearance is also reduced, which the car is able to rise due to the air suspension. As a result, the current Allroad seems to be a gentleman in a linen suit and moccasins, and not an avid tourist, as the previous one was. If the first -generation model could easily be found from any angle, then the current alload is more difficult to calculate, only a radiator grille and an aluminum lining on it unequivocally gives it out.
In the salon, the differences with the usual A6 cannot be found. Unless in the MMI system there is a function of adjusting the air suspension, which is offered on A6 as an option. Otherwise, the salon is still luxurious and spacious. The front seats have a wide range of adjustment, but even if they are pushed back to the stop, there is still enough space for the legs from behind, and if the driver has a standard height of 170-180 cm, then the sitting behind him can safely put his foot on his leg. At the same time, 565 liters of luggage space remain in the trunk, and if the seats are folded, then the volume will increase to 1660 liters. By the way, for the convenience of loading and unloading for the surcharge, the rear door can be equipped with an electric drive controlled both from the cabin and from the key fob. In addition, the trunk provides rails for installing various partitions, allowing to divide a huge compartment into several sections and thereby limit the movement of cargo during active driving.
The perseverance with which the designers hide the system of opening the glove box still look strange. There are no handles on it, but it opens with a button with slurred symbols located next to the central display, which is almost impossible to guess without a hint. Yes, and the glove box itself is small, moreover, a significant part of it is occupied by the CD changer. For an unknown reason, there was no place for the abundance of buttons in the central console among the abundance of buttons for the compact drive player, although many automakers manage to place a whole chainer here. In addition, the Audi radio is not capable of playing MP3-disks and it does not have the opportunity to connect external audio carriers. It is regretted and the absence of a sufficient number of containers for storing trifles in the cabin. However, the developers substantiate such a solution to the possible traumatic hazard of non -blessed items in the accident, so they recommend that all road utensils are stored in the trunk, since its volume is quite large, and there is an additional niche under the floor.
On the suburban highway, our Audi Allroad with a 255-horsepower 3.2 FSI engine and automatically turned out to be phenomenally fast and comfortable. Not a single traditional SUV is close price and power is so easy and serene to accelerate far beyond 200 km/h and at the same time maintain rare control. Moreover, the speed is not felt: it is hidden by the comfort of the air suspension and silence. At high speed, the suspension reduces the clearance to a passenger value of 125 mm, and a thorough study of aerodynamics allows you to talk at 220 km/h almost without raising the voice. But there is also a more powerful version with the 4.2 FSI engine, which is already developing 350 hp. And it is able to drive the speedometer arrow at a mark of 250 km/h (the maximum speed of the tested Alload reaches 240 km/h).
In the turns, Alload behaves as incendiary as the usual A6. In response to any provocation, an alternate and glad to go into a beautiful skid, but the stabilization system behaves impeccably. Even if you press the shutdown key, the electronics still do not doze off and does not allow the driver to make a gross mistake. In fact, the ESP does not even turn off, it can only be converted from the standard mode to an off -road, which allows the wheel slipping, but not giving the car will go into sliding. On the snowy coating or on ice at low speed, the electronics lets its iron grip and allows you to slip a little and enjoy the Quattro all -wheel drive transmission reactions only for Audi reactions when the Torsen differential throws torque from the front axle to the rear and back. But at the same time, it intervenes in the process, as soon as the situation really threatens to get out of control. And at a speed of more than 60 km/h any slides are instantly suppressed. On a straight Audi, it pleases the driver in German with excellent course stability. The steering wheel is very convenient. At first, it seems too light, but this is only the first 5 minutes, after which you grow together with the car. With the increase in the speed of the steering wheel is poured with reactive effort, and you can already control the machine at high speed, stringing one turn after another on a radiator grill. After that, it does not surprise at all that in the parking lot the steering wheel rotates with one finger.
In its off -road abilities, ALLROD is practically not inferior to traditional SUVs: in order to compete with them on equal terms, he lacks a little clearance, but he looks more stylish and sophisticated. What is the only chrome radiator grille with vertical cells and rear LED lights.
But the price seemed slightly overstated. For 80 thousand dollars, exactly the Audi Allroad costs in the basic configuration you can buy a well-equipped Vokswagen Touareg 3.2 (from 57,250 dollars) or even the eminent Porsche Cayenne with a 280-horsepower engine of 3.6 liters (from 57,850 euros). At the same time, if you start from the Donor Audi A6, everything converges a all -terrain vehicle more than a sedan who has already gone on the roads with a similar motor of 3.2 FSI and an automaton of $ 8,000, while the machine acquires a whole range of new qualities and standard air suspension. And if you take into account the issue of solidity and respect on the road, then AlloD will give both the sedan and the station wagon a large head start, which when buying a car for 80 thousand dollars, you see, is important.
