Protection of adult passengers:

With a frontal impact, the passenger salon retained integrity. However, the driver's mannequin sensors recorded a “breakdown” of airbags, for which penalties were accrued. Good protection of the knees, hips and pelvis of both front riders was also noted. The manufacturer managed to prove that the same level of protection is provided by riders of various complexions and in various positions. With a lateral hit on the overlap, the protection of the chest was recognized as normal, but with a more serious hit on the pillar it turned out to be better. Protection against whip injuries when hitting the back is also good.

Safety of passenger children

Shortly before the tests, Volkswagen made changes to the design of the Bobsy G0/1 children's seats, and since October 2009, the modified Bobsy G1 chairs with the ISOFIX system have been delivered for SCIROCCO. Tests were carried out with the latest version of the seats, so their result does not apply to earlier models. The displacement of the head of a 3-year-old passenger forward with a frontal blow was not excessive. It was located in the chair face forward. With a lateral strike on the overlap, both children were well protected by their seats. The front airbag can be turned off, which allows you to install a children's chair “against the direction of movement” in this place. However, informing the driver about the status of the pillow is not clear enough. A poorly thought -out marking does not reflect the danger of such an installation of a chair opposite the active airbag.

Pedestrian protection

The bumper and the front edge of the hood provided pedestrian feet with good protection, gaining the maximum number of points. The surface of the hood was weakly softened by the blow of the child’s head, and even worse - the blow of the head of the adult.

Pedestrian protection

The ESC stabilization system is included in the basic configuration for all SCIROCCO versions for the European market, as well as the alarm about the unsettled belts of the driver’s safety and the front passenger.
