Comments:

Significant changes are made to the protection system when hitting the side in May 1997. Here are the results of testing of an earlier sample.

Front punch:

The front desk from the driver shifted back by 145 mm. The driver's door open manually failed, but the passenger door opened normally. The steering wheel shifted back by 94 mm and up to 42 mm. The deepening for the legs was moderately deformed, and the brake pedal "left" back by 200 mm. Based on the testimony of mannequin sensors, the driver's head protection could be recognized as good, but its contact with the airbag was not stable. The neck was safe, and the containment systems prevented the contact of the chest with the steering wheel. The safety belt load limit worked efficiently, the risk of breast damage was low, although the dullness of the torpedo in the cabin was dangerous for drivers of various sets, located closer or further from the steering wheel. The left knee of the driver hit the casing of the steering column and the adjustment lever of its position, which has exposed its injury risk. Bracket lever adjustment of the steering column can damage the knee. Right knee hit the panel near the fuse box. There was a risk of damage to the knee, shin and the pelvic region. If the blow had fallen a little left. Higher knee position would lead to a strike of the ignition lock. The indications of the sensors of the mannequin signaled about poor protection of the lower legs. The degree of damage to the leg deepening suggests the likelihood of injury or ankles. With a frontal impact, the general risk of getting damage to the passenger was insignificant, although it was higher for the left leg.

Security of passenger children:

When you hit the side, the mannequin sensors recorded a large head jerk. A shot of the side edges of the chair was recorded.

Side strike:

The "ribs" mannequin recorded a high burden, because of which an assessment for the protection of the chest was reduced. The protection of the head and the pelvis is recognized as good.

Pedestrian safety:

Protection of the child's head. Only one checkpoint from six complied with the requirements: under the air intake. The other two showed the result above average. Protection of the top of the legs - none of the control points corresponded to the requirements. Protecting the head of an adult pedestrian - three points complied with the requirements (above the wiper, on the edge of the hood cover and one on the lid itself). Foot protection - None of the control points corresponded to the requirements (one, on the bumper, protected the average, two - worse).
