Comments:

For protection with front and side blows, Renault Clio received two stars. Almost all the requirements were observed, with the exception of the breast protection during lateral impact and shift the steering wheel back and up with the front. The main problem with the frontal impact was the deformation of the passenger compartment. The danger threatened the lower limbs, and special attention should be paid to the knee zone. Unstable head contact with a safety pillow creates potential problems for drivers of various growth or in different positions. The lateral impact requires improved chest protection, as well as controlling the load on the pelvic area.

Front punch:

With a frontal blow, the front stand shifted back at 195 mm at the site of the narrowing. Also deformed recesses for legs. Door openings were also damaged, and the driver's door managed to open, only with the help of tools, although the passenger door opened normally. The steering wheel shifted back by 105 mm, and up - by 133 mm, which is also recognized as a moderate displacement. Because of this shear and unstable contact of the head with a safety pillow (she slipped and hit the front rack), the scalp is evaluated. However, the neck was protected well. The pressed front panel led to a decrease in breast protection. Evaluation of the protection of the top of the legs was also reduced due to the large number of traumatic elements in the knee zone. With a frontal impact, the left knee hit the lever adjustment of the steering column, rigidly fixed on it. Right knee hit the front panel near the light control unit. Protection of the bottom of the legs is recognized as normal for the left leg, and weak - for the right. Compressive deepening for the legs worsened the degree of protection of feet and ankles. The front passenger mannequin sensors noted the good defense of the following zones: head, neck, knees, hips, left leg, feet and ankle. Normal protection is provided with chest and right leg.

Security of passenger children:

The manufacturer recommended the use of the chairs Renault Argonaut "in the direction of movement." However, these chairs were too large for installation on the rear CLIO sofa with a standard front chairs for the test. Therefore, experts chose Britax Freeway chairs "in the direction of movement", also from the list of recommended. With a frontal blow, the movement of the seats ahead was limited, but the lack of fixation of the upper part of the passenger body led to a strong head jerk. The transverse displacement of the chairs with side strike was small, the upper part moved almost synchronously with the middle line of the car. The head of the child was kept within the chair.

Side strike:

High load on all "ribs" Mannequin with lateral impact led to a low marking for breast protection, the abdominal department is also not protected. Head, however, was safe. The equipment failure did not allow to estimate the protection of the pelvic region, but the manufacturer's data suggest that the assessment was average.

Pedestrian safety:

Child's head protection. Two of the six checkpoints provided protection at the level above average. The points that showed the result of worse were located: above the battery, the block of electrical connectors, the hood cover lock and the stack of the shock absorber. Protection of the top of the legs. None of the three control points corresponded to the standards. Adult head protection. One point protects the head better than the medium, two points were worse: on the panel in front of the windshield and above the janitor. Protection of legs. One point provided the level of protection above average. The zones of the rustice are located near the towing eye and under the inner edge of the headlights.
