Comments:
Opel Astra showed itself quite well, but the results of a crash test with a lateral blow can be improved. In this part of the test, the back door from the side of the blow opened, so the car did not satisfy the safety requirements for lateral strikes introduced in the EU in October 1998. With a frontal impact, the car proved itself well, providing the driver’s legs unusually good. In the test, branded children's seats were used. The protection of pedestrians was bad - only one star.Frontal blow:
The structure of the car retained integrity, and the driver’s airbag has proved its effectiveness. The driver's knees were well protected, the deepening of the legs protected the feet from damage. The compression of this area was minimal, and the pedals partially disconnected from the hinges, reducing the risk of damage to the feet and ankles.Safety of passenger children:
The safety pillow of the front passenger is included in the basic package, so there is a real threat to the life of a child sitting on this place in the children's chair established by the “opposite movement”. Experts recommended that the manufacturer finalize warnings about this. The mounts for the chair of the 18-month passenger are not completely compatible with the rear seat belts, despite the fact that these are branded seats. Option - Opelfix mounting system solved this problem. This chair also used a safety strap to control movement, which is unusual. Both armchairs saved their riders from contact with interior details on the frontal impact, however, with a lateral blow, the head of the 3-year-old was not completely safe.Side blow:
The head and chest of the driver were well protected, however, its abdominal and pelvic departments were increased by increased risk of damage. The manufacturer assured experts that this problem will be resolved.Pedestrian safety:
The front of the Astra is very tough, and most of the places where the pedestrian’s head will fall when hitting, most likely will be injured. This aspect of safety needs to improve.General information about the car
