Test drive Volvo S60: Call abandoned

The Russian debut of the new Volvo S60 sedan took place at the International Motor Show in Moscow in September last year. During this time, the stylish sedan was already became familiar in the streets. We managed to test the diesel version of the new sixty.

The silhouette of the hatchback, the sloping line of the hood, the widely planted head optics with separately located diode dimensions, a highly littered rear stand, the rear lamps-lumbergs. All these seemingly disunited design elements together make up a single ensemble, whose name is the new Volvo S60. But he is really beautiful! During the test of the design of the sixties, I did not hear a single indifferent review.

The S60 salon is typical Volvo. An elegant and well -readable dashboard with two round dials, inside each of which was located one small display. The steering wheel lined with skin is equipped with comfortable keys and lies perfectly in his hands. The traditional branded soaring central console has not got rid of the pile of small keys. Tribute to style? A navigation screen and various car options are located on top of the console, of which many have been gained.

You can travel through the menu delers as using a steep console, so using the keys on the steering wheel. The algorithm is thought out well, everything is convenient and intuitively clear, but why does everything slow down as on the old pentium? The cursor jumps to a neighboring point with a tangible delay after pressing the key. In addition, the standard navigation system often confused and even tried to send me to Pedestrian Chamberlain Lane! Dubious investment of almost 113 thousand rubles.

At the same time, the menu has a very interesting option for changing the lighting regime from the right -sided to the left -handed more. This function will be appreciated by British drivers, for example, if you decide to go to stay in their country at Volvo S60.

The front seats have an excellent profile and good side support, but are sheathed with slippery skin, which strives to spit out a driver who decided to go a little faster. The rear sofa is matured for two passengers. A good stock of free space, comfortable places, an armrest with cup holders and boxing for trifles, as well as optional heating passengers on the gallery will not remain offended. True, the third here is definitely superfluous. Due to the large central tunnel, he is unlikely to receive the pleasure of the trip. For 99 thousand rubles, two autonomous DVD players can be installed in the front head restraints. But in order to put forward the screen, you need to have a truly heroic force. A tight plastic latch succumbed to me only from the fifth time.

The volume of the trunk of 380 liters for leadership does not claim. In the basic equipment under the floor, only the reprimatum is hidden, which can be used in case of puncture. For an additional fee, you can order a full-sized spare wheel, though, due to the limited space in the underground, it will lie right in the trunk. Consolation is one beautiful cover and fasteners so that the wheel wheel does not dangle in corners and with sharp braking. The transformation of the cabin comes down to a separate folding rear sofa, and for the transportation of long -termers you can also fold the front passenger chair.

Under the hood of a test car, a 2.4-liter five-cylinder diesel diesel engine with a capacity of 205 hp was located. This version is available only with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a full-wheel drive system.

205 forces under the hood are enough in the city and on the highway. Volvo S60 cheerfully gains speed and does not graze during high -speed overtaking, fully justifying its passport 8.1 seconds to hundreds. Automatic six -speed transmission works smoothly and clearly, while delays, both when switching down and up, are not observed. For special cases, there is a sports regime and the possibility of manual switching. But in the sport-mode of the reaction to the action of the accelerator pedals, they are exposed to indecent, and the need for manual switching is completely repelled by adequate operation of automation.

If you ignore the vibrations that penetrate the diesel engine into the salon a little more than you would like, then at the first kilometers you pay attention to an excellent level of sound insulation. Neither extraneous noise nor the roller of the engine actually penetrate the salon. A comfortable suspension works well with pits and bumps well, while the rolls are moderate in corners. But the chassis reacts stronger to the road trifle than we would like.

For 67 100 rubles, you can set a Driver Dynamic package, which includes a hydro -steamer with variable effort, as well as electronic controlled shock absorbers with three operating modes (Sport, Comfort or Advanced). I could not find a big difference in the modes. In sports, Volvo is slightly tougher to the bedridden and more acutely reacts to small pits and joints, and in comfort on the highway there is a hint of side buildup. In general, the difference is minimal.

The function of the alternating effort of hydraulic power, which fills the steering wheel with tangible reactive effort with an increase in speed, is much more interesting in this package. In addition, wandering around the menu, you can stumble upon the choice of the power to turn the steering wheel. With a low effort of the steering wheel is too empty, and after turning on a high effort, the steering wheel becomes hard, almost like BMW, but the electronic weighting agent is too synthetic, and therefore the connection with the road disappears. I love the average mode most of all: with it, both feedback at the level and the parking lot is convenient.

The sixties stands well on the arc, briskly responds to the movements of the steering wheel during rebuilding and perfectly holds the high -speed straight line, without requiring constant stunning even in the rut. At excess speed at the entrance to the turn, as a typical front -wheel drive, Volvo S60 first strives out, after which smooth care begins for the gas, which can be developed using all -wheel drive, adding the gas to transfer the moment to the rear axle. However, the vigilant and unknown stabilization system stops all the driver’s pranks in the rudiment, allowing the Volvo S60 only snapping himself.

An impressive list of additional equipment, which, by the most do not indulge, was stuffed with a test car, included the optional package of Driver Support (129 thousand rubles). It includes active cruise control, as well as a system of tracking dead zones and road markings already familiar to us. If earlier the active cruise operated from 30 km/h, now the Volvo S60 can calmly move with the cruise control even in the cork. The driver can only choose a distance and maximum speed and control the steering wheel. VOLVO gas and brake control take control.

Another electronic assistant is called Pedestrian Detection. According to official information, using a special video camera, the system can identify a pedestrian with a tall of at least 80 cm and, if necessary, initiate braking until a complete stop. Thus, if the driver missed a pedestrian who jumped out onto the roadway or suddenly braked ahead of the car, then the system will help to avoid a collision or collision. According to official figures, it will be possible to completely avoid contact at a speed of not more than 35 km/h, in other cases, the system will help to soften the blow.

I managed to test this system in the parking lot near the Volvo dealer, where I took the test car. Volvo S60 spontaneously stopped in front of an inflatable pedestrian, just like in numerous promotional rollers. However, I did not dare to experience a similar system on public roads. The fact is that for impeccable operation, many factors should coincide, such as the lack of glare on the asphalt, natural light, etc. As a result, it is better to rely primarily on yourself, and only then on various electronic assistants.

Having decided to buy a Volvo S60, you need to be ready to fork out. The cost of a full packaged test specimen with a 205-horsepower diesel and all-wheel drive closely approached the mark of 2,500,000 rubles. The price of a gasoline front-wheel drive Volvo S60, equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 203 hp, ranges from 1,186,000 to 1,424,000 rubles.

The top 304-horsepower Volvo S60 T6, which, like a diesel version, is supplied only with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, will cost at least 1,799,000 rubles.

The most affordable versions of the Swedish sedan appeared on the Russian market only in January. The price of a car equipped with a 1.6 liter with a capacity of 150 hp with a gas turbo engine. and a 6-speed manual gearbox, starts from 1,099,000 rubles. Under the hood of the second version, a similar motor is located, which issues 180 hp, which is paired with the PowerShift transmission. The cost of such a car, depending on the level of equipment, is from 1,232,000 to 1,434,000 rubles.
