At the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant organized the production of small series cars (PMS). The first model mastered here was UAZ 3153 with an elongated base.
The term stretch appeared in the language of the Russian motorist recently. This is the name of cars of cars, lengthened by inserts in the middle part. Yesterday it could hardly have occurred to the fact that this technique, a favorite when remaking the Lincolnes and Cadillacs, will be applied to a modest UAZ, released for almost a quarter of a century.

No. 8). The present, 1997 is determined by the launch. But even before the complete development of the new product, the plant should live. Moreover, the problems are well known, the train stretching for the change of model. In short, in Ulyanovsk, the 469th sample of another six conveyor life is determined by the utilitarian old man. And so that the buyer does not turn away from him, the Ulyanovsks followed the path that was once laid by their Italian partner Martorelli.
 
Many firms are now engaged in improving the standard UAZ. Such a tuning can feed only a small team, for the plant it is hopeless. At the same time, the plant needs a platform where you can deploy the production of small series. It would allow you to work out a certain improved design, and in the case of commercial success, prepare its introduction to the conveyor. This idea formed the basis of the UAZ
Gamps - production of small series cars. Today, the scamp is acting. His flexible welding equipment made it possible, in particular, to lengthen cars. The paint line allows you to expand the color scheme and use better (true, and more expensive) enamels. The promised range of options is quite wide.
 
The firstborn of the scan was UAZ 3153, first shown in 1996 car dealerships. The reaction of the audience was benevolent, which is generally explainable. Such a review is characteristic: you begin to do it simultaneously with the standard - long, of course, would be in great demand. For us, the practice of the simultaneous withdrawal of the whole family to the market is still a dream ...
Of course, the magazine could tell about a long somewhat earlier - an exhibition sample made in the experimental workshop, we were shown last spring. We deliberately waited for commodity specimens. The car you see in the pictures can really be bought. Today - at the factory. In the near future - with dealers, according to your specific order. True, the execution will have to wait, but this is world practice.
The main differences between the fifty -third and the car known to everyone are associated with the extension of the base. The standard UAZ 31512 between the axes - 2380 mm. The frame is cut and inserted by 380 mm. Naturally, the joints are strengthened by amplifiers. The calculations are confirmed by tests - the frame did not lose the stiffness and strength. Since we were below, we will look for other changes. Between the rear bridge and the body is usually a seven -pouring spring. In order to get rid of the famous oakness, several years ago they developed a small sprinkle, which has three sheets. Since the long is heavier than the usual UAZ, his springs are reinforced: they have four sheets. The brake forces regulator responding to car loading are associated with the rear bridge. Lengthened by the cardan shaft.
Changes in the front suspension are even more obvious. The spring gave way to the spring, and longitudinal levers appeared with it, a reptile stabilizer. The car with such a suspension is noticeably softer. Together with a long base, which has reduced the tendency to galloping, with softer radial tires with a new universal tread pattern, this makes UAZ 3153 suitable for a fairly quick ride along the highway. After all, most consumers expect universal qualities from their cars. The editorial of UAZ 31514 with an off -road is close, but still nine tenths of a run of 60 thousand kilometers - along the asphalt of intercity tracks. Many UAZ owners would like the car to run away. This is taken into account by the plant: for the future, the main programs with the changed number of transfer numbers have been developed.
 
Now let's look at the hood. All UAZ 3153 cars are equipped with a 2.9 liter with an engine (it is described in detail in No. 12 for 1996). A different placement of the pump is immediately striking. The fan is turned on through a viscous coupling depending on the temperature of the engine. The blades remained the same - metal, glued to the hub - and therefore noisy. But if the oncoming air flow is enough for cooling, then the fan does not work - it becomes smaller in one source of sound.
Russian jeeps have never been quiet. The fight against the noise in the model 3153 has a lot of attention. The engineering space is tightly wrapped in sound insulation - it is fixed on the inner surface of the hood and on the front panel.
 
No less thick layer protects the salon itself from the inside (more precisely, its passengers). A carpet is laid on top of the insulation. In our 31514 there is also a carpet, and its role in decreasing noise is obvious. But he also delivered a lot of problems that we already wrote about. In particular, when it was necessary to remove it in order to get to the gearbox, I had to dismantle the front seats and pedal brackets. New carpets are cut differently and are taken out without dismantling the cabin. The front, for example, consists of three separate parts. We also wrote about the fallen rugs from the sidewalls. Now they are attached not with glue, but with plastic pistons.
We will not assure that all improvements are made after our publications about 31514 - we do not operate it for so long. But what they are taken into account indicates their pressing. The armrests on all doors allow you to avoid contact with cold metal. The handrails above the doorways are by no means superfluous, especially when driving along laneys. The Buguruslan company, which supplies a chair in Ulyanovsk, is actively improving its products. The front seats are adjusted completely in Zhigul. The sidewalls of all the backs are developed, the backs themselves became higher, the headrests no longer rest on the back somewhere under the shoulder blades. Seals around the perimeter of the doorways should make the car warmer, land and quieter. The switches on the instrument panel are somewhat differently arranged (see photo in the heading), some moved to the steering column.
The disappearance of the wipers from the ceiling above the rear view mirror is striking. Now he, as expected, is hidden under the instrument panel. The wipers themselves are given from below, which increased the area of \u200b\u200bcleaning. Their leashes are better pressed, and the brushes themselves have finally become normal. How many we suffered with our relatives, we will not tell.
 
At one time, we complained about the underdevelopment of some tasks. For example, locking door locks were installed on our UAZ 31514, but the hood and back door opened so easily, as if the fight against crime in the country had already ended with the capture of the last thief. Now everything has become different. The hood finally opens from the cabin (the handle is located in the usual place for all cars). The steering wheel is equipped with a lock. On the back door - the castle. Yes, and the larvae of the castles themselves became more important. Grinded with locks and lids of the hatches of gas tanks. Unfortunately, the reserve was defenseless outside, and transferring it to the jeep interior is unreasonable. It remains to be insured in many ways that have already been invented by craftsmen.
By examining the salon fluently, we state that it is very comfortable contrary to the widespread opinion about exceptional utilitarianism.
 
And what has changed outside? The plastic false panel on top of the radiator grate did not seem particularly elegant. Fortunately, it is installed only at the request of the buyer. But we appreciated the halogen headlights. As well as the possibility of installing the phary cleaners. Plastic thresholds and overlays on wheeled arches are also not for everyone. They say they change the appearance of the car - maybe. But add sources of corrosion. On our car, for example, rivets, which are attached to this whole plastic, aluminum and create a galvanic pair with iron, which accelerates the process. Here is at least plastic mounts.
The front bumper has become much smaller and lined with plastic. In its lower part there were fog lights. Towing hooks disappeared - although for the jeep, in our opinion, this is a loss. If the UAZ is stuck, then in the middle of the dirt to feel the towing loop welded to the frame from below ...
A bumper and behind appeared. He improved the appearance of the car, adopted a back lamp and a fogging overall fire. The license plate moved here. Everything would be nothing, but it disappeared ... thempop. In the near future, they promise a towing device with a ball that meets new standards, but for now - the same as ahead, the eye. Well, all this is not for the jeep!
Since the license plate was postponed from the left side, the reserve on the right moved to the center. This is probably justified from the point of view of symmetry or harmony. But the load on the axis of the traverse, to which the reserve is attached, has increased.
 
Now let's move on to the most important thing. All the above improvements arose insofar as a scope. The main lengthening of the car was the main thing. Since the doors remained the same, then the rear triple seat after long thoughts left on the previous (relative to the front seats) place. To do this, I had to make a special bracket under it. But behind the place was noticeably increased. Single folding seats became double. It is unlikely that anyone will use them regularly: driving on these benches does not give pleasure. But the cargo space has grown much. For clarity, we did the following. Having completely removed the rear and right front seats and back the rear side, they loaded the boards (!) Boards in UAZ 3153. They lay down normally without hanging. So if you sometimes have to carry longs, then place a cubic meter one and a half boards up to five meters long without difficulty.
 
The car, of course, is not so much an object for examining as a car for moving bodies in space. We and we too. We drove a little, but took out two completely clear sensations. Firstly, on the go, the car behaves completely differently, which was a pleasant surprise. Secondly, in UAZ you can now talk without raising your voice, and listen to the radio on the road. The impressions are very superficial - we hope to deepen them during editorial trials.

Many of these improvements are quite deserved to transfer to mass production. As for the advantages from increased length - only sales will show whether such a product is worth moving from a drawing to the main conveyor.
Returning to the origins of the appearance of the long - will the scam will be a panacea from UAZ troubles? Hardly. But such production demonstrates the survivability of the plant, unwillingness to give up. The buyer can fully evaluate this. And he, we hope, will like the new car.
