Toyota BB car review
GeneralThe BB Open Deck model can be called a picap truck based on Toyota BB. Her debut took place at the Tokyo Auto Show in the fall of 1999, but at that moment its base model BB was also not put on sale, and the question of whether Open Deck would be sold on the market was not yet decided.
A year and a half after this, Open Deck was finally put on sale, and the part that corresponded to the BB trunk turned into an open body, and the partition was turned into the back door. In addition, double -leaf doors were installed on the left surface of the body, so more correctly, it will probably be considered a car not a cargo version of the BB, but an open compartment of a new shape. The influence of the transformation of the rear part into the body also affects the rear seats: the legs for the legs are very cramped, and the seats themselves are also made in the form of a narrow bench, so it is already felt not minivan, but a machine type 2x2.
As they say, 7 20-liter polymer tanks can be immersed in the body. You can also immerse wet and dirty used street materials, or high plants and garden equipment purchased at the end of the week. You can also plant pets, due to which the car’s interior will necessarily get dirty (although this is not recommended in terms of safety). Thus, Toyota claims: a way to use at your discretion.
Unexpected lightness and strength
The same 1.5-liter engine is placed on the BB Open Deck as on a regular BB. When they talk about open modifications on the basis of existing models, they usually come to the conclusion: compared to the basic car, the body strength drops, the weight increases, the sensation of movement also decreases slightly, but if you think about pleasure from openness, then this is nonsense. The car body has such a tendency that the strength drops as the number of holes increases. If it is somehow strengthened, then it becomes heavier, and besides, almost everyone has no awning. However, in the case of Open Deck, not only the number of doors decreased compared to the base model, but the number of partitions increased by one, if we count the back of the trunk, the rear hatch and the door. Thus, in fact, it turned out to be a more profitable form for ensuring stiffness than that of a regular BB, which is a large box. In addition, thanks to the cut of the back half of the roof, the weight of the car was 20 kg easier than that of a conventional model.
Given the nature of the machine, as they say, the suspension is adjusted a little softer than that of the normal model, and the impression of the movement became even better, possibly thanks to a lighter and more durable body. The body seems surprisingly tightly knocked down, and due to a significant cut of the back of the roof, the center of gravity probably also dropped. In this sense, we can say that there is a way to adjust the suspension to a more sports look.
An attraction in the world of minivans?
The share of sedanov on the sale of new cars last year crossed 30%. The share of SUVs, not to mention the compartment, also tends to reduce, and only sales of minivans and station wagons increase. In this case, if earlier the minivan was the subject for an individualist, allowing to demonstrate an open atmosphere, then in the present period it is relatively difficult to assert their individuality with the help of such a machine. Nevertheless, to force her to ride as a sports would be fundamentally unusual.
If you think so, then the orientation, similar to the BB Open Deck model, personally seems very attractive to me as a departure from the era of minivans. The space of the rear seats is inferior in functionality inherent in minivan, since it is intended almost only for emergency cases. But if you think about it, then the minivans users quite often travel in them one or two. In addition, there are any minivans as many people who can sit down many people. And we can also say that the world of the minivans has already matured so much that such attractions appear.
