By the way, they are also called in Spain and Portugal (Pajero has an indecent word for them). Almost all cars from the USA are gasoline five -doors with an automatic machine and a rich salon. The state is generally not bad, and there is no acute problem with spare parts: there are few differences from Europeans - dimensions, headlights, rear lights (the latter also have other connectors). But with diagnosis, difficulties may arise: the Americans have their own engine control programs and, accordingly, error codes. You can count them, but it will not work to decrypt, even at the official dealer. However, you can look on the Internet.
The most problematic region is the Middle East (the UAE, Emirates, Kuwait, etc.). There are many key differences: the stove works worse (but there are two circuits of air conditioning), cars without the rear wiper and without heating the rear window come across. Because of another control program, the motor may not start in severe frost at all, even if you replace a toy standard battery full.

There are many gasoline and diesel versions in Russia. The most reliable and unpretentious motor is a three -liter V6 gasoline with a ignition distributor (and fuel injection!), Produced in 1994. Then the most powerful engine with a volume of 3.5 liters appeared with four camshafts in two cylinder heads. The elastic bands are penny, but the replacement work is expensive, and indeed the maintenance of this engine requires considerable costs, so you should look at its later option with two distributions. In terms of power, it is inferior to its predecessor less than 10%, but it is much cheaper in operation. There are also 2.4 liters in the market, usually from Arab countries. These motors officially did not supply to Russia, so there are no spare parts or experience on them.
The oldest diesel engine is 2.5 liters, with a boost and intercooler. The average service life before repair is 200 thousand km. To this run will have to be replaced by a turbocharger and, possibly, the fuel pump (the durability of the latter is entirely determined by the quality of the fuel). A 2.8-liter replaced him, which had replaced himself, established himself very well, which was reflected in the price of such versions. Of course, with large runs (for 250 thousand km), various troubles are possible: a broken key groove into the crankshaft, a malfunction of the recirculation system, wear of nozzles and fuel pumps, but in Russia this engine is well known and can repair.
Until recently, the prescribed interval was between 10 thousand km, now it is increased to 15, but we will advise the owners of used cars to follow the previous recommendations. The engine service boils down to the replacement of oil and filter (each), coolant (60 thousand km or 4 years), fuel and air filters (as of condition, but at least 40 thousand km) and a timing belt with a tensioner (every 80 thousand (every 80 thousand . km). Among all the engines, only a diesel 2.8 liter of the camshaft is given by a chain (it can noticeably stretch to 250-300 thousand km, in this case, be sure to change it and the gear, otherwise the sedative may break, and this is already dangerous for the engine).
In the gasoline engines, hydraulic compensators of valve gaps are installed in the timing - follow the oil level! Its consumption on a working engine can be up to 1 liter per 1000 km. But this is still half a bastard, Pajero fuel appetite is much higher: with automatic transmission, the consumption reaches 22-24 liters of gasoline or 14-17 liters of diesel fuel per hundred in urban mode. Want to save - choose a diesel with mechanics. But it is possible that in this case you will not receive a permanent all -wheel drive.
 
Assortment
Pajero in the simplest GL set was produced without a differential in a handout (distribution of the moment - chain), so all -wheel drive without prejudice for reliability and controllability can only be used on slippery coating. The front hubs are connected to the crows through overall couplings; To disconnect them, you need to turn off the bridge and hand back. The instruction recommends turning on and off the front bridge, as well as a lower row of gears, only on a fixed car. Some nevertheless do this on the go - a long lever literally drives the gears into each other. Less noticeably, but correctly finish the transmission and wheels of different diameters.
It is possible to indicate the state of the distribution, swing by lane in all -wheel drive mode - jerks and knocks in the box should not be. After the engine, this is perhaps the most costly part of the car, so do not spare money for diagnostics. You can drive with an elongated, clanging chain for some time, but it will not be possible to sell such a car profitably.
Superselect -type all -wheel drive provides much more freedom. Here is the Interssex differential (WISKOUT), so the permanent all -wheel drive can be used on any coating. There is a mode of blocking the center differential, a low series of transmissions and - very often - blocking the rear interventure differential. This transmission is usually more tolerant of unwillingness to delve into the instructions, but still read it, because there are speed limitations for switching.
The cost of repairing a super -sequel is even higher, with the exception of the refusal of forced blocking of the inter -long differential: as a rule, it is caused by a cliff in the circuit of the electric pump (the drive of the mechanism is vacuum). This is one of Pajero's slightly poorly protected electrical cops.
Oil in transmission units change every 40-45 thousand km-ATF Dexron II (III) in the machine and transmission 75W90 GL-5 (for example, Mobil HD-90) in the manual transmission, distribution and rear bridge. In the inter -ground differential with lock is the same oil, but it serves less - 30 thousand km.
The adhesion on this all -terrain vehicle cannot be attributed to long -livers, but it will work regularly 100 thousand km. The bearings of the crosses on the asphalt will last more than 150 thousand km; It is better if they are with press ointments (they used to produce only such). True, sometimes it doesn’t do without knocking: they go from a non -vegetable steering column, resonating in a voluminous hub of the steering wheel, where the airbag is hidden. The knock does not affect controllability, there is no noticeable backlash either, so you should not change the column because of such a little thing.
A strong frame, designed for off -road, is resting in urban conditions. Abundant red rust in open metal is an occasion for nit -picking on the inspection, but no more. Corrosion is terrible only by open electrical wiring and tubes of the second circuit of the air conditioner (in extreme cases, they can be drowned out and used only the front circuit). On cars until 1995, contacts were oxidized in the tug connectors under the left wing. Then the problem tourniquet was transferred. Only the spinning wiring of the rear lights in the bumper annoying. The Americans are less troubles: they have the main block of lanterns on the back, and in the bumper - only reverse lanterns.
