Mitsubishi Lancer of the previous, ninth generation several times became the leader in the sales of foreign cars in Russia and, holding on the market for 5 years, transferred the baton of the anniversary 10th version. In case of updating, prices jumped for $ 2000-3000, but despite this, a many-month queue stretched behind the new car. Sedans with a 1.5-liter engine should wait at least six months, and versions with a 2.0-liter engine are even a year old.
However, the hype, bloated around the new Lancer, is rather the merits of the ninth generation car, which has acquired a solid credit of trust due to reliability and reasonable prices. To find out what he really was, we took a sedan with a 2.0-liter 150-horsepower engine and a variator in the maximum intention configuration with a stylish aerodynamic body kit. Its price is 651 240 rubles (approximately 25.5 thousand dollars). Having such a budget, you can already swing to a simple sedan class higher, like Toyota Avensis or Mazda6, although without a number of options.
When looking at the first photos of the new Lancer, the novelty was easy to take for another Evolution, the car looks so fresh and aggressive. Especially when it comes to a 2.0-liter version with small flaps on the front bumper and a massive spoiler at the stern. But even without them, Lancer X looks impressive. A large audi-shaped black radiator grill and narrow tinted evil headlights. Having noticed such a car in the rear -view mirror, I would like to accept to the right, otherwise it will also be cut or bit. If you supplement the exterior with fashionable xenon headlights as tuning, then the priority on the road is guaranteed. The wedge-shaped silhouette ended with an upset short food with stylish slanting lanterns a la Alfa Romeo. This is no longer the former Lancer, which, although it was difficult to confuse with something, did not cause special positive emotions with something.
But with the interior there was a reverse metamorphosis of the salon in the nine is even better finished than that of the new Lancer. The design of the front panel echoes Outlander XL, and the texture remained the former tough and unpleasant to the touch. Only a competent ergonomics is striking. The blocks of the radio and climate control are separated from each other and using them is quite convenient, and the tachometer and speedometer are spaced through individual wells, between which the information screen with the fuel margin and other data. That's just the central display, as on Outlander, is characterized by pale lighting, which is even poorly distinguishable in cloudy weather, and it is not visible in the sunny day. With the headlights turned on, the display becomes even darker. It is not clear how this miscalculation was replicated in such quantities: after all, unlike plastic, a dull display does not give any savings for the manufacturer.
But, as they say, a holy place is empty, there is no tuning studio now offer their services for decorating the front panel with genuine leather, which significantly decorates the salon. Refining prices start at $ 2,000, and if you sheathe the front doors at the same time, the price tag will increase to 2800. Significant investments for a golf-class car. But music lovers will be able to save on the installation of music: already standard Lancer in the top-end collection of Intense boasts a very decent CD-mr3-chain on 6 discs and powerful acoustics. Sometimes even the impression is that the subwoofer perched in the trunk.
The stylish three-spoke bagel was quite convenient, but its location is not perfectly not enough adjustment by the departure, which most golf class cars have, especially those that claim to belong to its upper segment. It also remained a mystery why Lancer is deprived of a make -up mirror in a passenger visor, and the driver’s driver is left without illumination on such trifles, even Koreans do not save now!
There are enough places with rear passengers, as in the previous Lancer, but without excess. The salon crosses a powerful central tunnel with all -wheel drive versions so far only for the Japanese. And of course, the head stably supports the junction of the roof and the rear window in the hot outflow will be pretty bake in the crown. The trunk was quite modest, less than that of the previous generation. A significant part of its volume is eaten by a full -sized spare wheel, although the body is matured under the dock. If you remove the spare, then the floor level can be omitted by a good 10 cm, and the trunk will increase significantly, but its opening will still remain small, so that for the cottage the new Lancer is no longer as good as before.
Mitsubishi behavior on the road left an ambiguous impression. At first glance, the stylish steering wheel is filled with a weighty reactive effort and the driver feels great everything that happens to the machine. However, the chassis itself is by no means perfect. During acceleration, Lancer is noticeably scouring, although the power of the motor is not so great. Such tricks were excusable for the 220-horsepower Outlander, but from a sedan with sports ambitions with a capacity of 150 horses you are waiting for a more complaisant nature. In corners you have to deal with insufficient rotation. Although, perhaps, the latter is a feature of a test car, in which the sidewalls of the front tires were very deteriorated, as a result, the tread contact spot was significantly reduced. On new tires, the sedan would probably behave better.
The suspension pleased with excellent energy intensity: on Lancer you can dashingly jump through bedridled policemen without fear of breakdowns. But with small joints, the sedan is not friends, as well as with tram tracks, strong blows are on the body. At the same time, Lancer turned out to be very wound: of course, this does not threaten the car with overturning, but the cranes look threatening, as if stabilizers were forgotten to install in the suspension. Moreover, we are talking about the Intense version with up to 150 mm with a sports suspension, the usual Lancer has a clearance of 165 mm and is probably even more rolled.
Against the background of the general unbalanced machine, the variator left a positive impression. The machine is fine behind the gas pedal, so it is incredibly convenient to control the acceleration, and for braking the engine, stylish aluminum steering wheel petals, cold metal under the fingers, makes Lanser forgive many flaws. In manual mode, you can choose from 6 fixed gear rates, which are quite close to each other and allow you to accurately select the necessary revolutions to each turn. A new motor with a phase change system MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Electronic Control) is guaranteed a good thrust in the entire range of revolutions.
But the noise accompaniment of the work of the motor is not the most pleasant hum breaks into the salon after 2000 rpm, and at the top it completely prevails over a common, not the quietest background. The wheel arches and wheeled arches do not suffer from excessive silence.
Despite the fact that the test drive was allotted for 4 days, Lancer and I did not fully understand each other. The novelty attracts a stylish appearance, an excellent power unit and a groove control. Although, oddly enough for a Japanese car, it was not without a large ladle of tar in the form of low -quality interior decoration, meager configuration and an impressive price. Now, if you drop a couple of thousand dollars or add ESP, central locking, window pillows and high -quality plastic, then the gaze of many motorists would probably turn towards Mitsubishi. However, it is unlikely that the distributor is worried about these claims: those who want to purchase a car are already ready to wait for cars for several months ...
It must be admitted that the new Lancer actually has no competitors where to find a stylish sedan with a powerful motor and an excellent variator for $ 24,000? However, Mazda3, albeit with mechanics, but with more interesting and understandable handling, may well be involved with him.
