Test drive Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII 2003 - 2005 sedan

In sneakers, it is more convenient

In the Russian range of Mitsubishi, replenishment: Lancer with a two -liter engine in the Sport version should fill the gap between conventional modifications and Evolution VIII.

What is sport? Everyone understands him in their own way. For some, these are daily training to exhaustion, life aimed at conquering artificial barriers, the desire to win through sweat and blood. For others, ADIDAS home pants, volleyball on Sundays and streamlined trunk on the roof of a car for transporting fishing rods. We will not judge the morals of the car by its loud name, we’ll get behind the wheel.

Outwardly, Lancer Sport is not particularly different from the basic version: sixteen -inch wheels, transparent rear lights, as for Evolution, a small spoiler on the trunk cover. But if you look closely, a reduced clearance and tires of Yokohama Advan will be found.

There are also no radical changes in the interior design, but it is already more like an EVO salon. So, straight from the fighter, a three -spoke steering wheel Momo with a metal hub migrated here. Its departure is slightly larger than in the usual Lancer (adjustment of the column in length is not provided), this is more convenient with quick manipulations. The chairs received more developed side support.

The main thing, of course, is a two -liter engine with a capacity of 135 hp. As you can see, the specific return is small, which hints at the moment in the nature of the work. So it is: the motor is perfectly pulling from the bottom and pleases with elasticity. Alas, there is no need to talk about truly hot dynamics, but if you abstract from the ambitious name of the machine, the convenience of urban driving will come to the fore.

While we got out of the center of Moscow towards the outskirts, we played enough with a gearbox. The clarity of her work is excellent: each switch is pleasure, and we did it very often, but only in attempts to put the engine such a task that he would not have been coped with. The urgent need to turn to the lever KP occurs infrequently. You can touch at least with the first, even with the third, after which you turn on the fifth and calmly float in the traffic stream, using only the steering wheel.

All versions of Lancer are perfectly controlled, but each a little in its own way. Sedan 2.0 Sport is no exception. More rigid shock absorbers and springs, low clearance, fiftieth profile tires and front racks made the car’s behavior more adult and accurate. The light excess rotation of the 1.6 -liter modification gave way to neutral manners, which, however, did not make the car less gambling. Rather, it has become more susceptible to gas pedal. Due to the powerful effect of braking, the Lancer Sport with a two -liter engine is eagerly screwed into the rotation for discharge of gas, it is easy to let the car and sideways. At the same time, the torque of the motor is always enough for timely correction. On even gas, the sports version behaves more stably.

Thus, with regard to handling and balance, we are ready to subscribe to the advertising slogan of the model: she really has rally genes. The car encourages sliding, copes with them perfectly and is not inclined to unpleasant surprises. Of course, the comfort when passing road irregularities decreased, but in this case, each fraction of the lost smoothness moved into an improvement in the responsiveness of the car, reducing the rolls and delays in the feedback for steering.

The appearance of this modification is a great opportunity for the buyer to expand the choice of exactly the Lancer that he is closer. For an active person 2.0 Sport, a great car for every day. And sport here is primarily a healthy lifestyle, not without pleasure.
