After all, Mercedes-Benz S 400 Hybrid is the first serial machine with a combined drive in the history of the brand and German automotive. Cars in which electricity helps the internal combustion engine now resembles stars - you have to read and hear about them more often than to see. In 2008, about 450 thousand such cars were sold around the world, that is, one per hundred ordinary. And more than half of them were bought in the USA. Until this summer, only hybrids of the Lexus brand were officially supplied to Russia. Now the desire to protect nature can be combined with love for the oldest auto producer of the world.
Outwardly, the technical novelty of the drive gives itself out only with the inscription with the designation of the model on the trunk. Everything else here is the same as on modifications with a traditional design. Thanks to colleagues who go to the same S 400 Hybrid behind, we can evaluate the effect of the introduction of another new technology - LED lamps for daytime driving. Building in the bumpers, they are quite noticeable and also very much go to the elegant Mercedes-Benz. A chrome LED strip in the lower part of the bumper is the same bar that gives the end to the picture. Such lanterns, however, are not included in the standard set of updated S-Klasse. They are obtained only by S 600 and our S 400 Hybrid. For other versions, this is an option. So almost 700,000 rubles. The difference in price with the next purely gasoline option is requested not only for an electric motor with a capacity of 20 hp. And a lithium-ion battery, but also for new lighting technologies.
Inside the difference, the hybrid is also hidden, unless the driver himself wants to find out about them. If desired, on the display in the center of the instrument panel, you can display the energy circuit inside the car, which displays the battery charge. Here we accelerate - and the power source helps us too. The fact that this is the energy consumption is reminiscent of red arrows leading from the battery to the wheels. It's time to take care of the environment - and we are leaving by inertia. Now the arrows are directed to the battery - they have become green. This small primitive cartoon, in general, does not carry any practical information. The battery here is only an auxiliary device. But the driver performs almost the same action as the demonstrations of the green. It seems that you don’t pay attention, but in the background you already begin to think about frugality and take a closer look at the energy -saving lamps in the store.
The hybrid part of the drive is extremely modest in size - the kit weighs 75 kg. It includes a very flat electric motor built between the engine and the transmission, and the lithium-ion battery. This type of batteries is used on a serial hybrid for the first time in the world-Mercedes-Benz engineers chose it for lightness and compactness.
