We say: Sport -wrapping, we mean - a powerful engine, mechanical transmission, hard suspension, honed controllability, landing 2+2, bright design. And also - a well -known name.

Mark, traditions, image - significant things, often even determining the world of sports coupes. For those who want to argue with this, a suitable argument is Hyundai Coupe. To someone, these two words seem to be antonyms. Comparatively affordable Korean cars are rarely associated with sports ambitions. Nevertheless, it was Hyundai - the first and so far the only South Korean manufacturer who dared to invade the segment alien to the auto industry. This happened in 1996.

The appearance of the compartment is spectacular, sometimes even beautiful. But you look at the car, and it seems that the designers created the image of Coupe, moving from nose to stern and gradually washing off inspiration. ANFAS The machine is very attractive, especially after the update - thanks to the new bumper, the break of the beautiful head optics and the edges of the air intake converge to the center like the letter X. gives aggression. And the hood line that goes down between the headlights forms faceted emotional cheekbones along the wings. The Coupe profile is also very harmonious: a long hood, a low sloping roof, a rising window line, there are even gills of air intakes. The canonical image, but there is already less expression than in facial facial expressions. But the view from the back is completely ... Korean. The designers could not resist and stuck here their favorite slanting headlights. Moreover, these awkward rounded foglights under them ... But the diluted double exhaust is good, this is a hint that under the hood - V6, not a banal four.

A 6-cylinder aluminum unit with a volume of 2.7 liters-a motor-steamer. In addition to Coupe, two SUVs are equipped with them - Santa Fe/Tuscan and minivan Trajet. The engine cannot boast of power: 167 forces from this volume - a little (on other models it develops 175 and even 179 hp). Therefore, the maximum speed is not prohibitive - 220 km/h. But the accelerated dynamics is not bad. The main thing here is not even passport 8.2 seconds to hundreds, but subjective impressions. Twisting the moment at 245 Nm throws the car forward at almost every switch, even in the third drive of the wheel with intense acceleration, break into the slip. The disadvantage is an uneven characteristic of torque. There is almost enough traction at the bottom (you have to treat the clutch accurately) and in the region of 3000 revolutions is delicious. But, starting from 4000 and almost to maximum revolutions, the motor pleases with a gambling. Besting upstairs, it forces you to more actively switch the programs. It is good that we came across a car with a mechanical box, because there is also a version with a sequental 4-speed automatic. It is unlikely that the Korean H-Matic is able to give great pleasure.

The car responds responsibly to the passages of the accelerator, the efforts on the pedals are decent, and the programs are in the literal sense of the word to stick with a small short -term joyful joystick. All this makes you be collected, gives rise to a sports mood. The chubby three -spoke steering wheel lies comfortably in his hands, and Coupe is well obeyed. Unless on a high -speed straight zero could be clearer. With maneuvers, reliable feedback is felt, in the limit bends the machine first slides smoothly, and when the drift occurs easily stabilizes, for which special thanks to the tires of Michelin Pilot Sport (215/45 R17). This is a bonus not too sophisticated drivers, because there is no stabilization system - electronics are represented only by ABS and a system of redistribution of brake force.

The brakes confidently stop the 1400-kilogram machine at any speed. The only complaint is annoying clinks. In general, the suspension reasonably combines the stiffness and necessary comfort inherent in the genre. The front is the traditional Mcphereson, from the back is a multi -link design, and there and there there are reptile stability stabilizers. The suspension copes with conventional irregularities and only on the paving stones, and even on the tram tracks, the riders shakes in order. But the rolls in corners are small, and the reactions to the movement of the steering are fast and accurate.

The interior is perhaps the weakest place of Hyundai Coupe. The pluses here are adjacent to obvious disadvantages. Comfortable steering wheel, sports seats, tenaciously holding riders, pretentious seams with a red line, round nontulation nozzles (almost like Audi TT) - and the mediocre quality of the front panel materials, its disputed plastic, inexpressive (but informative) devices, banal keys on The central console ... in a word, there is not enough sophistication, such a necessary compartment. And an abundance of inserts under aluminum can not be corrected. Even the details designed to create appropriate surroundings can become an object of criticism. In sporting, highly raised pedals, for example, will be inconvenient for people with a small size of the legs. Yes, and additional devices carried out to the console - fun mainly for passengers: show voltage in an electrocope, instant fuel consumption and torque. By the way, it will be difficult for a tall drivers to set up a landing - the steering wheel is not set in length.

Usually, speaking of the compartment, everything that is behind the front seats is left behind the brackets. But still, do not forget that Hyundai Coupe has such non -core assets as a roomy trunk and a second row of seats, albeit symbolic. This car is suitable for daily household use.

So, can a sport-wrapper bearing the name Hyundai? It looks like yes. We repeat, Coupe - the car is moderately spectacular, quite dynamic, it has a V6 engine and a 6 -speed box, it is pleasant to control and generally on the move. Of course, it is ridiculous to compare it with more serious representatives of the genre - Audi TT, Mazda RX8, Nissan 350Z. But here is a strong argument in favor of the Korean: $ 33,000 - with this price he practically does not have direct competitors in the Russian market, Toyota Celica, Honda Integra and Mitsubishi Eclipse are not officially sold in Russia. And popular hot hatchbacks are still not a compartment.
