The first shock from communication with Hammer occurred during the driver’s door opening their shape is such that a whole snowdrift of snow falls from the roof to the salon, and it is almost impossible to brush it up: the height of the car exceeds two meters, and to get the brush, you still have to open the door. Well, at least, the seats are leather and snow is easy to brush back to the street. The salon makes a double impression: the width of the body is huge and this is emphasized by the gigantism of the central console with flaps set by bolts. However, looking around, you understand that the height of the salon is not as large as you expect, approaching the car, and a narrow windshield with small janitors painfully resembles classic Zhiguli. On the back sofa, which looks more like a skin sheathed, without difficulty you can sit both the three and four of them, the main thing is that the growth is not very large. Another place is at the back next to the wrapped in a villi cover, however, climbing there is inconvenient, the knees are at chest level resembles a guard. And the purpose of this chair is completely incomprehensible, besides, it occupies the entirely modest trunk. In order for at least some luggage in Hammer, the rear seat will have to be folded, and even better to be removed from the passenger compartment forever and spend a spare tank on the back door or on the roof of the brick aerodynamics will not spoil such a solution, but the trunk will increase significantly significantly. Somewhere there, in the trunk, periodically makes itself felt with a pneumatic compressor pumping the rear suspension. Formally, he should make Hummer more comfortable, but it is felt barely. But the compressor provides for a conclusion that allows you to pump the wheels, which is conveniently off -road, when the pressure has to be reduced on the ground soil. But in the fields and weights later, but for now I am leaving the parking lot.
It turned out to be quite difficult to pilot Hummer in the city, but not physically, but morally to twist a huge steering wheel at least one finger, but the question arises, is there a pillow in its small hub? So, just in case ... At the same time, it constantly torments a sense of responsibility for others. High landing and mass of three tons guarantee security in almost any collision, unless not with KAMAZ. But what will happen to those who accidentally turn up under the wheels of Hammer, it is better not to think. A sense of responsibility is also aggravated by large views of large side mirrors it is not high enough to show what is happening in the immediate vicinity of the car. Such a monster needs mirrors like trucks convex and height more than in width. For example, in a traffic jam you can easily not notice a passenger car, which stands in the neighboring row on the right it is not visible in the mirror, and the roof is below Hammer window line. Powerful enough in appearance, albeit plastic in fact, a chrome radiator grille, which is at the level of the rear window of the cars. Making our way through the city, we were twice stopped by the DPS outfit, although we drove calmly, did not drive and did not rose on the road. Outside the city, Hummer H2 feels much better than huge dimensions no longer so strain. You have to be careful only when traveling on a narrow path with another hammer or truck, but in which case you can also go to the side of the right side. At the same time, the agility, with which the 3-ton SUV shot from a place in the city, leaving almost everyone behind, was preserved on the highway, but only to the mark of 150 km/h, after which Hummer rests against the wall from the air and further accelerates with great difficulty and reluctance. Moving along the highway at a speed of 100 km/h, you collect the consumption of only 15 liters per hundred. In general, according to the results of a test drive, the on-board computer showed an impressive result of 28 liters of what else can be expected from a car with a 6-liter engine and a complete lack of aerodynamics? We have not yet spent a single car more gasoline, it remains only to calm down that the 92nd and even 76th gasoline can be poured into Hammer, although we would not risk it. But enough about savings, it is unlikely that it strongly cares for buyers of such cars. In addition, the volume of a tank of 120 liters allows you to not very often think about visiting the gas station.
Otherwise, outside the city, the second Hummer behaves quite clearly and predictable. The fares of huge tires and an archaic worm steering mechanism necessitate easy stabbing on a straight line, which you quickly get used to. It seems that you are driving the Gazelle (by the way, their dimensions are similar, although subjectively Hummer seems many times more), only equipped with a Ferrari or Lamborghini engine. Remember, in the early nineties, Italians produced a similar car with a 400-horsepower engine, probably, it is precisely it that can be considered the hobby N2. After the passenger car in Hummer, slow reactions to turn the steering wheel when passing the turning loops on the highway, you turn the steering wheel, waited half a second, and guess, along which trajectory the car will pass. The desire to score completely, and given that our car was shod, albeit in the toothy, but still summer tires (others to choose for Hammer are very difficult), it should be more careful in the turns. The complete absence of reactive effort on the steering wheel about the sliding of Makhina does not help to guess only when it shifted to the floor of the line outside the turn is not facilitated.
At the speed, another feature of Hammer, wide toothy tires, perfectly lift water and dirt from the road, and the SUV instantly spray not only its own sides, but also side glasses and even mirrors. But here we are in his career, and since there was heavy snow at night, we are moving away from a firm asphalt with a light cautiously, not every tractor will probably be able to pull out a tightly stuck Hummer. Fortunately, all these operations are performed with buttons on the angular central console. To begin with, we decided to take a chance without activating off-road wisdom, this gives hope to get out of snow captivity, if we still get stuck. It should be stated that after two hours of desperate attempts to plant Hummer, we could not, at least on the frozen ground and in the snow knee -deep, only everyone was frozen and was exhausted, measuring on themselves the depth of snowdrifts. Out of curiosity, we blocked the central differential, but with it H2 began to react a little worse to the turns of the steering wheel, and accelerated with a similar dynamics. After all, even in the normal mode, torque is constantly served on two axes. The locks were really useful when it came to the dough for the diagonal hanging the rear wheel broke off the ground, when the front rose about half a meter, but the H2 was ready to crawl on until there was enough grip of wheels with the road or it does not overturn to side. Perhaps Hummer is the first car in my practice, which really did not want to get out of my career. Here, in the boundless open spaces, his real element, and it does not matter whether the open spaces are sandy or snowy. Here, his brutal appearance and the evil roar of the motor come into balance with wildlife, and you begin to get real pleasure from driving on Hammer and understand why this car is really needed. And let marketers repeat as much as they like about the stars of show business and various David backhams on which this car is oriented, Hummer, even the second one, is a light army truck endowed with a small share of comfort and slightly adapted for urban operation. Its real essence is known precisely on off -road. By the way, Hummer is almost the only serial car in the world that, without any preparation, is capable of passing the distance of trophy-raid, never broke. Even its regular tires are ideal for assaulting any swamp.
