I have not seen so many Cruze sedans anywhere except in Russia. Thanks to the local assembly, this model has become one of the best -selling Chevrolet in the Russian line. But in Frankfurt, where our acquaintance with the new 5-door version took place, I did not meet a single Cruise, with the exception of test hatchbacks, which were not sold yet at that time. And there is nothing to be surprised here. If we have a Chevrolet brand inferior only to AvtoVAZ for sales, then in Germany it accounts for only 1% of the local market. In Russia, four models with the golden cross Niva, Cruze, Lacetti and Aveo are in the twenty of the best-selling cars, and the most beloved by the Germans of Chevrolet Spark can only boast of what is included in the local TOP-50. But then the Chevroletovs themselves rushed: do not tighten them with a pause with the release of the Cruze Hyethack for many years, this model could greatly squeeze competitors. And there are all the prerequisites.

Design at the level. The chassis is perfect, no worse than that of the donor astra. The trunk of 413 liters is perhaps the largest in the C-segment. Well, the price is generally a fairy tale. In Germany, the 5-door Chevrolet Cruze costs from 14,990 euros. For example, Citroen C4 and Renault Megane will cost 1000 euros more, and the difference in price with Focus is even more impressive almost 3,000 euros! But this is in Germany. And what about Russia?

This model will appear closer to spring, after the assembly of the 5-two is launched at the GM factory in Shushara. Prices are still kept secret, although it is known that the hatch will be approximately 10,000 rubles. more expensive than sedan. Such a difference in cost can be called an extent for the novelty, since the setting and motors of the 4- and 5-door versions will be the same. There are only two engines for Russified Cruise: 1.6 gasoline (109 hp) and 1.8 (141 hp) with a standard 5-speed mechanics and an optional 6-speed automatic. But by the end of next year, the third unit of a 1.4 -liter turbo engine should appear, which will develop the same power as atmospheric 1.8.

I began acquaintance with the novelty with the most popular version in our market with a 1.6-liter engine and mechanics. And then a surprise was waiting for me. It turned out that Russian and European modifications Cruze 1.6 are developing different power! The delta is 15 horses, and not in our favor. However, on the road this advantage is imperceptible: 124-horsepower Cruise is as soon as possible as 109-horsepower. The maximum torque of 154 Nm here is reached only by 4200 min-1, so to go quickly, the motor has to be twisted into ringing. Version with a 1.8 engine with a capacity of 141 hp you also can’t call a dynamic horse here some sleepy

For the contrast of sensations, I decided to try a turbodiesel of 2.0 liters of top -end in the line of power units of Cruise. This motor develops 163 hp, but it is much more important that in the range of 1750-2750 nm it is able to give out a moment of 360 nm! I won’t be cunning, I knew in advance that the diesel would please me, and I was not mistaken! True, at first I had to adopt to turboyam on the bottoms, stalled a couple of times at the start. But on the highway, the car behaved excellently: sometimes it seemed that under the pedal there was an inexhaustible source of traction. In addition to excellent dynamics, turbodiesel Cruz pleases with a low fuel consumption and an acceptable noise level, but it is only expensive. It is for this reason that such machines are unlikely to appear in Russia even in the long term.

Driving
The suspension and steering are very well configured, but the nature of gasoline Euro-5 motors is not pleased.

Our opinion
The release of the new hatchback will allow Chevrolet to increase its share in the market, and this is even more related to Europe than to Russia. In our country, the main cash desk will continue to make 4-door Cruise, both due to the lower price and due to the love of Russians for cars with the sedan body.
