BMW X3 3,0D - for those who feel young and energeticI will tell you, dear reader, as in spirit: for those a couple of weeks, which managed to spend the BMW X3 driving, I got it for ten years. Maybe those surrounding and perceive me with a solid uncle, which is more suitable, say, x5. But I myself, once again taking into a compact Bavarian SUV, immediately forget about all sorts of nonsense about solidity, and I gave the drive, like a boy. No, like a young man who is aware that today he must have time to do more than yesterday, and tomorrow - more than today. X3 literally charges energy. And what could be more important than personal well-being?
Activity instead of utilitarianism
Of course, I'm not the first time at the wheel of the BMW X3. But for the first time I deal with a car equipped with a three-liter turbodiesel. And since I do not hide my weakness to modern diesel engines, I am very pleased with the circumstance that it will be in my disposal of the whole three months. So I still have time to tell about the parties, and for the first dating focus on the main thing. The main thing from my point of view is in special, without any reservation - the sports character of X3.
Munich concern was quite reasonable, invented for its SUVs a separate class - SAV, that is, Sport Activity Vehicle. The change in the word utilitarian in the generally accepted SUV, the word sports, it looks quite justified. In the justice of this approval, it is easy to make sure that we simply send the steering wheel, running the engine and clicking on the accelerator pedal. You will immediately get acceleration that will not seem weak. The car is not just accelerated, he rushes forward, as if he was united the demon. And the demon is an amazing torque of 410 nm, which, remind, and provides accelerate dynamics, while power is the maximum speed.
By the way, the power unit itself, installed also on X5 (though, in this case, it is more powerful in this power, but the car is harder), is well known. This is a turbocharged diesel engine with a direct injection system Common Rail fuel and an intermediate cooling of upgrade air, which also completed cars of the 3rd, 5th and 7th series. It is quite a bit inferior to the famous BMW in line six, consuming gasoline, in power, but it surpasses it on a torque. Spurt until hundreds for 8.2 seconds (with an automatic transmission), I assure you, very impressive and fully corresponds to the ideology of BMW. The machine itself, one of the best of those known to me, vividly responds to the supply of gas, providing pickup almost from any speed (it is clear that not with the maximum), passing by the driver team on one or two steps down. And Sport mode? In urban conditions, it is hardly used to use it at all, but it introduces an additional perch in the behavior of the car. The motor on each transmission is unwinding barely not to limit revolutions, guaranteeing crazy accelerations, but at the same time the transition to the highest level is carried out without noticeable jerks.
These indicators, by the way, once again convince me of injustice, that the model X3 is a female car. Yes, nothing like that! Around the world, it is positioned as an SUV for young and energetic people who have not yet increased the abdomen for X5. Of course, the ladies place on the driver's seat is not ordered, but they should be quite prepared for hot temperament x3.
Winter fairy tale with xDrive
Acknowledge, I was glad that the Bavarian SUV went to the editorial office, when there were still students, snow and slippery in Moscow. Although the rest of the winter was not carried out in a car, but in a car, perfectly adapted to movement in our conditions. First of all, thanks to the XDRIVE full drive system. Its highlight is that a multi-disc coupling with electronic control, working paired with a dynamic stabilization system of DSC, redistributes torque even before the slip of one or more wheels has occasionally. Special sensors take into account the angle of turning the ram, side acceleration, speed and position of the accelerator pedal. So, at high speeds, almost 100% of the torque is transmitted to the rear wheels, that is, the BMW X3 behaves like a classic Bavarian car. The front is connected only if necessary. With a sharp start, the coupling closes, leading all the wheels in motion, which, in turn, provides good overclocking on any coating. In the turns of XDRIVE, as it were, compensate for insufficient or excess turning. If the rear axle drift outlined in the priee, the electronics transmits a larger point to the front wheels. And vice versa. And in specific Moscow conditions, when turning on the snow-covered streets, I was convinced of the correctness of the DSC, one of the wheels in the case of the need. The system does it at the right moment, playing the car in turn.
Of course, the DSC can be turned off, but in urban conditions to do this, perhaps it is not worth it. Another thing, somewhere outside the city, on empty snow-covered tracks or on a platform. It should only warn that X3 is a city car, to storm a serious off-road on it I would not advise. So, if you get rid of the electronic collar and adapt to the features of the full drive system, you can get great pleasure. Let's say, pass the devices in controlled and beautiful drift. In general, according to your chants, a compact SUV is not much different from a passenger car. A fairly low center of gravity and excellent suspension is provided by absolutely predictable behavior of X3 even in extreme situations. But for this, I repeat, you need to be pretty, on your own experience, examine his habits.
That before the steering, then its settings should not disappoint an active ride amateur. True, I would like to slightly more sharpness, the turnover of the ram from the stop until the stop could be smaller. But, on the other hand, the average driver, and after all, it was for him that the car was stuck, would most likely be satisfied.
Price sensations
Let me share another, very subjective, sensation from x3. How do the French say - cute mess closer to the heart? In the sense that if you are dealing with a benchmark of clean water, it is hardly affecting your feelings. I think now the reader becomes clear why I even had to consider the disadvantage. For example, hardly tangible on the steering wheel and handles of the ACP vibration from the diesel engine. Imagine, I believe that without them the car would lose part of your charm. Because these vibrations give the temperament and immediately disappear, it is worth pressing the gas supply pedal. As if the horse, nervously agrees in anticipation of the jump, which he intends to benefit. I feel something similar, dealing with American sports machines, vested motors of the monstrous volume, which are unable to hide their power when they are forced to stand still.
I like the factory, deliberately rough (but very high-quality at the same time) black plastic, which is finished the front panel and other parts of the cabin. I would not want to paint in the color of the body of a black bumper, because I consider them quite relevant on the diesel version - a working, male car.
