Maybe the Bavarians just showed courage? In any case, it is worthy of respect. Remember BMW earlier? Of course, they were attractive, but all models on one face, and only the dimensions distinguished them from each other. Now the seven, three -tires and five are completely independent cars, in which the corporate identity is present only in detail. I must say that many fans of classic BMWs are especially sorry for the fifth series: the car with the E39 index, outwardly very proportional, was a leader in its class in many disciplines (and for a rather long time). And here is the new E60 index, with it a different image. However, the shock quickly passed, and the wealthy motorists saw in the fresh 5 -rehe the same cool business class car. Now, when the model has been released for the sixth year, it has become available to a wider circle of buyers. Thus, it's time to talk about what awaits a person who decided to contact the former BMW E60.
 
E60, even from among early copies, no one will perceive as an old -fashioned car. And the point is not that the model is still sold in company car dealerships. Unlike many advanced machines, which are characterized by quickly obsolete, BMW 5-Rihehe is as elegant and harmonious as the avant-garde. Therefore, it still looks very relevant. In our country, where sedans love, there are almost no station wagons: the vast majority of cars with four doors. It is nice that there are practically no problems with the case during operation. rust? Forget. True, it is worth remembering that gambling people usually ride on BMW, and since not all hot drivers own racing piloting techniques, broken E60 is not so rare, so you have to be careful. The electrician, fortunately, does not cause much trouble. Despite the fact that there are a lot of wires and devices, all this serves properly (but, like any modern machine, 5-Rihehe does not like unskilled intervention in its subsoil).

It is not easy to give an unambiguous assessment of the cabin: throughout the entire period of the existence of the model, the interior has changed noticeably (in particular, the I-Drive, the famous system for managing additional functions, often received a new firmware, although it was originally easier and more convenient than the option installed in the early seven Where, as you know, the technology was only worked out). Nevertheless, there are almost no complaints about ergonomics in general, everything is in place, everything is convenient, in addition, a salon made of rather high -quality materials is made. In addition, the seats are characterized by excellent convenience (the company has always been famous for the ability to make excellent chairs), climate control works impeccably. Noise insulation is decent, but in some other business class cars it is still better.
 
However, the BMW 5-Rihehe can be called a sample of high sled comfort: shaking and vibration are expressed noticeably stronger than, say, in Mercedes-Benz W211. And this is a reasonable (and most importantly pleasant) explanation. Among the cars of the BMW 5-Rihe business class, perhaps one of the most combat ones: she has a gathered suspension, although sometimes it seems too tough. The motors installed on it and install different from 2-liter in-line six and even four to the mighty V8 and 500-horsepower V10 (the last engine is equipped with an exclusively sports version of M5, which differs from ordinary five with a slightly different appearance, a completely different suspension, more powerful brakes and more powerful brakes and more powerful brakes and more other nuances). But the optimal engine is still a 3-liter in-line six, which even without a direct fuel injection very confidently pulls a heavy machine. The only spoonful of tar in a barrel of honey is an active steering rack: the thing in theory is quite interesting, which allows you to sharply steer on winding roads and not strain the car on the highway. However, there are separate roughnesses of execution, for example, under certain circumstances, the stabilization system can command the motor that changes the gear ratio of the steering drive, block the steering wheel, depriving the driver of the opportunity to at least somehow influence the situation.
 
What cannot be refused to the Germans is that they offer just a huge selection of engines. IBMW 5 -rehe is no exception. At first, the bulk of the E60 went off the conveyor, having one of the three old engines inherited from the BMW E39 under the hood: the weakest 170-horsepower 2.2-liter 6-cylinder unit (later on cars with index 520i began to be delivered The in-line four with a capacity of 156 hp), at the next step there is a 2.5-liter 192-horsepower engine. Of the in-line sixes, the most powerful has always been 3-liter, which produced 231 strength. Later, in 2005, a 2.5-liter engine received a direct fuel injection (and increased to 218 hp), like a more powerful 3-liter power unit (at first the power increased to 258 horses, and two years later before 272). Until 2005, the 8-cylinder engine was one (4.4 l, 333 hp), and later V8 became two (one of them has 4 liters and gives out 306 l., The second is already 4.8 liters, and The power is 367 l. Five has several diesel engines with a volume of 2, 2.5 and 3 l, developing 163-177, 177-197 and 218-286 l. With. I must say that with almost any of them 5-Rihehe is a very convenient car. Is it time to change the oil? The computer will definitely report this. Antifreeze left? Wait for the bell. True, not all models are stuffed with assistants who facilitate the service, in particular, the electronic oil probe, which is displayed on the on -board computer display, not all five.
 
As for the possible problems in operation, the most common increased oil consumption for these cars: the owners who like to turn the engine in the ringing are considered to be small in 1-2 liters of oil eaten in the interservice interval (regular maintenance is carried out once every 15 thousand km). It is also believed that late engines with direct fuel injection are sensitive to fuel quality. There are no other chronic ailments from the E39 power units of the M54 series, nor the more fresh N52, with direct fuel injection.
 
Boxes also do not cause trouble, although the owners often complain of thoughtfulness, then, on the contrary, over excessive sharpness (these complaints are often associated with an abnormitious level of oil). By the way, in the early copies, the plastic pan of automatic transmission is divided (from a sharp difference in lubrication and water temperatures that falls on the pallet from the road). Individual owners manage to kill the box quickly enough (sometimes even with a run of 100 thousand km), after which they spend serious money on its restoration (100 thousand rubles. Not the limit). True, this can hardly be called a constructive problem: according to tradition, BMW uses high -quality Zanradfabrik. Despite this, the diagnosis of the unit before buying is still very desirable.
 
The suspension of this model is not the strongest link. For some owners who neatly circle fossaes, the main elements of the car go for a long time, for others who prefer to drive, regardless of the quality of the roadway, the details become unusable much faster. So, the first shock absorbers serve 100 thousand km, the second time, two less plus a knock appears, as well as many irritating crickets.
 
As for the steering, the problems, although they happen (from the errors issued by the on -board computer to breakdown of the rail), but rarely applies to both versions with a conventional rail and active. The brake resource directly depends on the driving style, as well as on the installed engine: the more powerful the motor and the owner drives more energetically, the faster the rubbing elements wear out (the front pads can evaporate and evaporate 5 thousand km, and reach 15 thousand). And although soon, apparently, a new generation car should appear, the 5-Reihe E60 remains a very worthy representative of the premium segment: the pleasure of managing the highest, the saturation of advanced equipment is unsurpassed. It is also nice that in the current difficult conditions the BMW E60 is a rather rational choice: the prices for five fall extremely slowly. Even the ancient E34 costs are still high compared to similar cars of the same years.
