Test drive BMW 1 E87 series since 2007 hatchback

Reviving former traditions, BMW created a compartment on the basis of the first series. The car turned out to be dynamic, brisk and some kind of cheerful. A little frivolity of severe Bavarian cars clearly does not hurt.
 

In a large-large city, which is sometimes called the World Automobile market, a nice animal was born. They called the baby from the old BMW clan proud of the 1st series coupe. Compared to other city animals, our hero does not differ in impressive size. The length of his body is 4360, width 1748, and a height of 1423 mm. But, despite this, he runs quickly. Up to 100 km/h the compartment accelerates in 5.3 seconds. And if you chase it for a long time, then the maximum speed will reach 250 km/h. In principle, the animal can run faster, but he does not want to, and the brain gives a signal to the wheels, that is, paws, no longer strain.


Usually a small BMW does not run from anyone, because he himself is a predator, small, but a predator. For the crazy speed with which he rushes along the city streets, it is worth saying thanks to a rather large heart with a volume of three liters. Instead of the usual ventricles, 6 cylinders are arranged inside, located in one row. Thanks to this, our compartment can pull the herd of 306 horses. In other words, small and remote
 

This would sound like a story about the BMW coupe of the 1st series in the presentation of Nikolai Drozdov. The analogy with a small predatory animal was not chosen by chance, since it is this image that is best suited for the Bavarian novelty. When a few years ago the first episode only came to the market, many skeptics wondered: is this a real BMW? Time, as usual, has set everything in its place. Now no one doubts the noble family family baby. However, the final verdict, disposing of the remaining doubts, has been issued now, with the advent of the compartment version, or rather the most charged version under index 135i.
 

The tests of the new items took place on the harsh Swedish island of Gotland, which abound in huge boulders of the ice age. This place is well suited for a test drive for two reasons. The first is that there are practically no cars on the island. The second here is a real auto polygon called the Gotlandering.
 

So, let's begin. I get behind the wheel. On the right is a colleague who is also not different in miniature sizes. Let's just say: we are big journalists. But the salon created according to the formula 2+2 does not seem cramped. Only sometimes my elbow hurts a friend’s hand, which, however, can pleasantly diversify the journey if a pretty young lady is with you next door. In addition to the usual adjustments, the driver's chair moves up and down, which allows a person of any height.
 

We did not venture to sit back too much. The compartment is a compartment. From such machines, no sensible motorist and requires special space. Back, for example, you can throw a bag with tennis rackets. If you need to transport something larger, there is a small, but luggage compartment separated from the cabin. Its volume can be increased thanks to the 60:40 rear seats folded in a proportion. It is important that this is not an option, but a standard equipment. The deficit of the place inherent in almost the entire compartment is partly compensated by the glove box and pockets for cards located in the doorway.
 

The 140-kilometer journey along the deserted and trouble-free roads of the island did not present any surprises. At first, you should be extremely neat, since in terms of power the coupe of the first series has no analogues in a compact class. I went too far with a gas pedal, and the Christmas trees standing along the highway turn into a green background. At the same time, five -second acceleration to hundreds contributes to a good training of the cervical muscles. The heads of the driver and passengers strive to tear themselves away, and then look for them blindly in the back seat.


At the end of the winding, but rather boring route, the reward of the Gotlandering Avtodrod was awaiting us. The three -kilometer highway, covered for safety with old tires, is a nuclear mixture of turns and straight lines, on which the car can be accelerated almost to maximum speed. Many of the colleagues who risked turning off the stabilization system, plowed more than a dozen meters in the security zone.
 

But the disabled stabilization does not mean that the driver was completely abandoned to their fate. To increase traction in DSC-OFF mode, that is, with a completely turned off the DSC system, a strong slipping of the drive wheels is prevented by proportionate braking, which provides the function of blocking the differential with software control. This helps to accelerate the car without a negative impact on rotation. Simply put, the driver receives maximum control when performing maneuvers in extreme modes.

Security first of all


The 306-horsepower car should have excellent protection. The way it is. The developers argue that the new Bavarian coupe not only meets modern standards, but also exceeds the requirements of European legislation. The bet, as always, was made on high -strength stamps of steel, the original body structure and special deformation elements. The best safety indicators are expected when testing on a side blow according to IIHS standards. Maybe EURONCAP experts will first put six stars to the debutant? Let's see, Crash tests are still ahead. In the basic configuration, the driver and passengers provide six airbags. Frontary airbags have two stages of operation depending on the severity of the accident. And the pillows, built into the backs of the front seats, reduce the risk of injuries during a lateral blow.

The coupe control of the 1st series is not much different from driving other charged Bavarians.

The internal space is decorated in a style ordinary for Bavarian machines.

Comfort
Compartment and should not give comfort. The main thing is the dynamics of management, the pleasure of driving.

The developers say that a small compartment even exceeds modern safety standards.

Price
Sports compartment buy real connoisseurs and fans, and such people do not feel sorry for money for their favorite toy.

Our opinion
Such a car will rarely meet on city streets. But if it flashes in a string of almost the same machines, it will certainly attract attention. BMW 1-Series will not bring much money to its creators, but obvious image pluses will affect the implementation of other Bavarian cars.
