The clock stopped at noon, at half a day. My acquaintance forever stuck in the blessed 80s-years of cheap port, supple charms, ABBA and the 245th Volvo, which he, however, was able to buy only in the 90s, but with which he was going tore the 20s of the new millennium. Not so long ago, according to some sundress radio, he heard that at the factory in Torsland there were allegedly solid departments of spare parts for the 245th model and for some funny money they collect it on order there. Upon learning that I was going to the test drive of the new Volvo station wagon, a friend instructed to check the reliability of rumors. Is it really true? - First of all, I asked one of the company's engineers, conspiratorially fascinating him into the corner. All spare parts from the old 245th went to the new XC-70,-he told me as well.The XC70 is not only made on the basis of the Volvo S80, but also inherited the mass of its premium domestic. One of the options available to the owner is called a personal communicator and has the form of a conventional distance. This distance, which works a hundred meters maximum, will tell the owner of the XC70 about a lot. Namely: the car is locked or not, whether the alarm was triggered in it, whether anyone is in the cabin or not. The latter is determined thanks to the sensor built in the cabin, responding to the heartbeat.
He joked, we laughed, my fan of the Swedish classics, however, took what was said for almost a pure coin - and what would you take from him if he even believed in the promised treat with the elite French cognac Adyu colon (the test XC70 was held in the vicinity of Cologne, and in the punishments There was no shortage about Cologne water). Then he for a long time loaded me with comparisons of his beloved car and a new car. The lesson is as fascinating as the search for external differences between the old version of the XC70 and updated. Perhaps someone will be able to find all ten (I give one hint: look at the fact that the exterior designer Stefan Jansson calls boxing gloves and that in prose reality it is a plastic overlays in the corners of the now slightly flattened nose of the car). It is also possible that someone is lucky to find something from the 245th model in the latter. Although by and large, of course, you need to look in a different direction.
Volvo designers can say anything, but it is clear that they simply made a reduced copy of the XC90 big brother and spoke with brilliance the task of giving a person something similar to SUV, but for less money. True, Volvo fans quite logically expect that the new XC70 will be more expensive than the old. Growing in price is the ugly property of all brands moving to the premium. By the way, this also explains why the hint of provinciality disappeared from the name of the model another five years ago. No CROSS Country, only pair of letters and numbers. Knowing people were pushing me: a steep or trying brand should be sold itself, and banal and woven names for models interfere with this. And therefore Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Audi - all sit on special codes.
But nevertheless, sometimes we will call the XC70 some kind of sweet nickname, well, at least a seventy-eater. So, the updated seventhnier even became as if larger and more solid by eye. It is understandable - the platform is from the S80, and not from the S60. Not otherwise beneficial and a 15 percent increase in the hardness of the body. The car seemed to straighten in the shoulders. This remark is subjectively and objectively at the same time, because it can be tested by the front riders, for the shoulders of which the extra three centimeters have been found, and the rear passengers - they are now allowed to have 21 mm knees and a foot 48 mm longer. The presentation description of the XC70 speaks of an increased clearance up to 210 mm. The technical specifications of the past machine seemed to be 209 mm. However, the point is not a millimeter, but in the sensations - the seventy -tennier seemed to be really managed to tear his abdomen from the ground higher. The difference between road clearance XC70 and XC90, by the way, only 8 mm. And the fact that this difference is insignificant, we were allowed to make sure of a highway on the occasion of the highway with loose slides, blurry ruts, puddles and other primary and imperonal signs. The main goal was to check in the action of a gigiper causal - Hill Descent Control Hill Descent System. The purpose of the audit was successfully achieved. The system operates in the standard mode: just press the button on the panel and it remains only to rule the steering wheel. And the car, pinching itself with the brakes and stepping on the throat with its own motor, will crawl along the slope at a speed of 10 km/h. The system - what to say there - convenient in every sense. Again, trendy - the responsibility for driving is transferred from the driver to electronics (read - manufacturer). It is noteworthy that the Hill Descent Control works both with a mechanical and automatic box, as well as when moving, which is convenient when unloading, say, a hydraulic cycle or boat. The burden of the loading process itself, apparently, will soon be removed from the motorist and will be transferred to the maintenance of some robots. Volvo is already close to this - as options on the XC70, a sliding (about a distance of approximately an elbow from the rear bumper) is a floor on which you can calmly sit together, or even the three of them or put a luggage equivalent by weight a couple of hundred kilograms. On the back door in the upper part there is a button for that very likely and common case, when in two hands you have a hundred products from IKEA and there is no third hand to slam the trunk. The button can be pressed with your nose, the door will slam it yourself.
One of the managers of Volvo said that the XC70 was created for those who want - I quote - to live out their Dreams. Here the key is not a translation in the form of a dream embodiment, but the word live. The owners of Volvo survive to their dreams are much more likely than other motorists, precisely because Volvo is turned on security. The seventy -earnings, perhaps, have collected everything that has been in the company's storerooms today. And the target stability systems, and adaptive cruise control, and the BLIS alarm about finding a car in a blind zone from a particular side.
But a special emphasis is on the safety of the most expensive - our flowers of life. Firstly, the rigidity of the body sidewalls was increased. Secondly, children's heads are now protected by inflatable curtains of larger size. Thirdly, the rear chairs pillows can be adjusted in height (they have two possible high-rise positions). Thus, the problem with the belt is solved - he will not strangle the throat of your child. And, it seems, the problem is being solved with the purchase of a portable children's chair. It becomes unnecessary.
American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 1991, just two years before the cessation of its production, called the 245th Volvo the safest car throughout the US market. And there was no tenth share of what XC70 has.
