The Volvo S80, which we tested in Sweden, lies in the range of 160-180 km/h. Above - you have to steer seriously. Below - boring; It seems that you are crawling. Swedish roads contribute to this. They are beautiful and almost empty. It would seem that Davi is full - but no. The speed restrictions are simply Jesuit. On the autobahns near Gotharg - 110 km/h. And try to grow old faster. For a single excess of more than 30 km/h - a fine of about $ 300, and for systematic impudent - up to the prison. There is no police on the tracks, but she sees everything and knows. Thanks to television cameras and voluntary informers.
We walked for two hundred, and, as we later found out, the calls to the police from indignant Aborigines were in bulk. But we were lucky. Volvo has such a weight in Sweden that even a boring-brown-making local traffic cop (naturally warned by the company), gritting her teeth, closed her eyes to journalistic pranks. Test there is a test.
There will be no station wagon
500 thousand cars - this is how much the company intends to sell in the first year of the third millennium. For Volvo, this is a lot. We must strain. The S80 Swedes call a pass (sometimes a punch) in a new age, a starting rate is made on it. Already this year, they plan to sell 500-1000 of these machines only in Russia and this despite the fact that sales will begin in the last quarter. But the Russian market for the company is not the main one. For example, 40 percent of all S80 will go to the United States. No wonder the appearance of the model was developed in the California Volvo design studio - the proposals of European designers were rejected as too traditional. Nevertheless, the car, although it was oriented primarily on the tastes of the Americans, turned out to be quite European. A lot is borrowed from old models: the Swedes themselves admit that in the 80th there is even something from the ancient Amazon.
An amazing thing: although S80 opens a new unification platform (on which, perhaps, a compartment and a convertible will appear), there will be no station wagon on its base? It is believed that in design he is not at the box office. The new station wagon, by the way, will come out in the coming years, but it will be on its own, and not at all as a derivative of the sedan S80.

The car is thorough, solid, large. Inside spacious. And the trunk is so easy. And if you throw the back of the rear seats forward, thus continuing the trunk into the salon, then the idea comes that on the basis of this sedan the station wagon can really not be done. There is no need.
For the first time in the world, the Swedes managed to transversely install a in -line six -cylinder engine. This is more than a solid winning place. Plus a record compact checkpoint. Are you sure you should be faster?
The engines are excellent. We managed to carefully skate cars with in -line six - with a boost and without. This is far from a full range of engines for the S80 (there are 5 more cylinder); We focused on six, because it is their Swedes that match our market in the first place - Russians love large motors.
We noticed the difference between the two sixes only in dynamics. The above comfortable speed with both engines is the same, but it is achieved, of course, differently. The turbocharged motor makes the car a kind of gun: it brilliantly pulls in all modes and, for acceleration, for example, from 100 km/h (gas to the floor) Sedokov presses into the chair almost the same as when jerking off. The atmospheric engine, of course, is calmer. The car with it is powerful, but smoothly accelerates somewhere to 160-180 km/h, then flows into a light slumber (as if asking the driver: are you sure that you need faster?) And if you press further, it wakes up again: the set From 200 to 220 km/h pretty good. We did not go above: signs sticking out everywhere with a limitation of 110 km/h acted on nerves.
Naturally, the dynamics also depends on the transmission. On the S80 T6 there was a GEARTRONIC machine, which allows the transfer to manual switching mode - it is quite to match the engine: the dynamics gives a cannon. On an unmistered S80, the machine was ordinary, as recently, the machine guns adapted to the road and the driving manner. It is very good. Only in one mode did it seem a little sluggish to us: if at a speed of 100-120 km/h it must be sharply torn to overtake, the machine becomes more thoughtful than we would like.
The behavior of the S80 on the road (stability, controllability, etc.) can be briefly described as follows: the machine allows you to be careless and forgives very many blunders when driving.
We, fortunately, did not manage to test the vaned Volvian Volvian Volvian Volvian systems of passive security: all these Sips, active head restraints, airbegi, inflatable curtains, and so on. But the consciousness that they are and, God forbid, will work when necessary, adds joy from communication with the S80.
Sit the Russian with buttons Russian
A set of comfortable lotions of S80 is generally standard for machines of this class. Let us pay attention only to what no one else or almost no one else has.
First. Parking lighting system of the machine. Not only do she see you to the door of the headlight for a half minutes - you won’t surprise anyone with this - it also shines in all directions with small bright lights, in particular, built into the body of external mirrors. All in science: a loud connection, a set of numbers from the central console, a tube removed from the armrest for personal conversations. How this phone will function in Russia, known for unpredictable interference on the air, is still unknown to us, but in Sweden it works amazingly. Even in tunnels, and tunnels in Sweden are very long and deep, under the hills and rivers. No hearing downs, no interference. The radio in the tunnel stalls, but the phone is not.
I must say, we still found a shortage in this phone. There are no set buttons on the tube, which means to the rear passenger to dial the number, you need to strain the driver.
