Test drive Volvo S40 2004 - 2007 sedan

Quite sufficient

Regular updates and release of new modifications can extend the life of any machine. The whims and requests of the consumer vary, and the richer the proposal for a particular model, the more chance that he will opt for it. It seems that one of the modifications of the restyled Volvo S60, which appeared in Russia this summer, will like many.

In the range of engines installed on the S60, a 2.4-liter 140-horsepower unit is the weakest. The car is equipped with an automatic box, and there is no need to expect miracles of the speaker from it. In order to better feel and understand what you lose and what you are acquiring with a decrease in the livestock (I already had to deal with powerful versions of the S60), I went on a short trip to the Moscow Region.

The car accelerates smoothly and slowly. He will not turn his head and will not lead to the chair, but it will gently and stubbornly move forward. The switching of the machine is practically not felt, no shocks and twitches. At speed, closer to 100 km/h empty, before the steering wheel is poured with a pleasant weight. Finally, a reactive effort appeared - so calmer. The speed, meanwhile, is growing, but in the cabin there is silence. With sound insulation, everything is in order. And how can she be bad? The status of the brand and the price are obligated.

The company clearly did not save on the interior. This is especially noticeable in detail, in particular, to fit the elements of the panel. The decoration used leather and high -quality plastic. The salon is restrained in beautiful - no excesses, ergonomics at a height. Everything is reasonable, clearly, in their places. Convenient seats are unobtrusive, but reliably fix the body. Fabric inserts eliminate sliding. Separate climate control for the driver and front passenger with a large power of power will help out in any heat and any cold. At the same time, the air conditioning system works quite quietly. For music there is a multi -channel amplifier with a digital processor and 13 speakers.

I continue to accelerate. Well, the 140 -horsepower engine is actually not so weak - it picks up and pulls. You can say a surprise! At a speed of 120 km/h, the car is still gently, it holds the road - not a julul. The suspension works well with small joints and potholes, but the body plays slightly on large irregularities. The main part of the noise is overboard, vibrations are also practically no, except that a little extra information is transmitted to the steering wheel.

I decide to a little fuck. I simulate a moose test - a detour at the speed of an obstacle that suddenly appeared on the road. Sharply the steering wheel to the left, then to the right - the car falls on the left side somewhat more than the expected. You need to be prepared for ahead of the steering wheel. Well, this is the reckoning for comfortable suspension settings. However, the stabilization system is always ready to insure the driver. Yes, a rigid suspension would make the car more transparent, and the reactions - sharp, but, of course, to the detriment of comfort. So sharp rebuilding, steep turns and high -speed detours are not the best offer for the chassis of this modification S60.

I continue to move towards the Tula province. The speedometer is about to show 190 km/h, but the speed is not felt. The car keeps the course confidently, as if sticking to the road. I look at the devices. That's so wondrous! Already almost 200 km/h, and the tachometer arrow has gone near the mark of 4000 rpm. The gear rates of the automatic checkpoint are selected optimally. A good tandem engine turned out - a box.

The speed, meanwhile, has already exceeded 200, acceleration is almost finished. It's time to try to perform emergency braking, since the DPS post is looming ahead - there is a formal occasion. The road is empty, and I do not squeeze and do not give - I beat that there is strength, on the brake pedal. ABS is shot, the car holds straight, only small stooping is required. At a distance of several tens of meters in front of the post, I managed to reduce speed from 205 to 65 km/h - easily and at ease. Created for life? With such brakes - for sure.

Once again I pay attention to the operation of the engine and automatic transmission. In lower gears, a 140-horsepower engine accelerates the car assertively and at the same time without a tear. Of course, the S60 arrow will not fly and the aggressive style is beyond its power, but there is enough for the barbid driving the capabilities of the power unit. In addition, it is economical - on the highway, according to the on -board computer, it consumes no more than 8.5 liters per hundred. In a mixed style, when you travel, for example, along Ryazan, it turned out about 10 liters. In Moscow, of course, there will be a little more.

Circling in the cities near Moscow and calling into the village forgotten by God and the authorities, I was convinced that the S60 is good not only on the highway. On a broken country road, a soft suspension easily hides irregularities. Small front and rear overhangs allow you to overcome shallow ditches. In general, you can go to the cottage in bad weather. But nothing more.

S60 with the smallest engine in the gamut is a balanced car in which the main emphasis is on comfort and safety. It turned out a typical Volvo, and many choose this modification precisely for a guaranteed branded set of consumer characteristics. And the price is attractive.
