Volkswagen updated T5 introduced in Frankfurt. After the premiere, not even two weeks had passed, we had the opportunity to check the cars in combat conditions. What did the Wolfsburg residents prepare this time?
T5 modernization has been waiting for a long six years, the last update of the popular conveyor in Europe was comprehended in 2003. For a long time? Well no. In a commercial environment, such a rotation is norm. So what has the T-shka become different? You do not need to be super-observative to notice changes in the look. The conveyor matured. Inside it became noticeably quieter. Well, what, and on this the Germans worked for glory here. Vibration, by the way, also decreased.
Gasoline engines with a capacity of 116 and 235 hp. They remained unchanged. But with diesel engines, large metamorphoses occurred. 105-horsepower 1.9 TDI and 2.5 TDI, issuing from 131 to 174 horses, was sent to retirement. Their place under the hood was taken by a two -liter motor, which is produced with four degrees of force: 84 hp. (220 nm), 102 hp (250 nm), 140 hp (340 nm) and 180 hp (400 nm).

In the first three TDI, the boost is provided by a turbocharger with variable geometry. In the most powerful 180-horsepower version (it has an abbreviation of Bitdi), two-stage boost is used, with two turbines, by the way, also controlled. New engines are more technological, economical (on average, the consumption is reduced by 1.9 l/100 km) and environmentally friendly, they comply with Euro-5 standards. But in Russia T5 will be sold with engines that meet Euro-4. By the way, thanks to the new algorithm for the operation of the injection system, diesel engines began to work noticeably softer and quieter.
If I needed a workhorse, I would pay attention to a 102-horsepower modification. Such an engine, coupled with a mechanical transmission, seems to be the most optimal option economical, in the city, it allows a furry bullet from traffic lights (not least short transfers contribute to this), and plus the loading of the 84-lord brothers drags only foam to the mountain kilometers.

But the 180-horsepower engine with two turbines is already something. And on the highway, and on mountain stilettos, and in the crowding of impassable streets of Rome, the motor even allowed to play a wack. Fortunately, the tourist California, which I got, was equipped with a seven -speed pre -sequential DSG box. On cars of this class, a similar box for the first time. And, I must say, it is combined with a powerful motor is simply wonderful. With electronics, you quickly find a common language.

The programs are switched quickly, but smoothly. Transitions to lowered pauses are not irritated. It is worth it to stomp well along the gas pedal, the automation takes under the visor, throws off a couple of gears down (depending on the conditions), instantly raises the speed and shock on the clutch. A small impetus and further pleasing powerful acceleration. In general, the tandem of the engine was a success. Units work harmoniously, quickly and comfortably.

It is possible to juggle with gears manually. You will not accelerate faster at the same time, but on mountain roads manual switching will save the brakes the lower the transmission, the more effective the engine braking. I wonder how the transmission will behave during operation? Is Multiven hard for her? Engineers assure, there are no reasons for concern. A box with a pair of clutch is designed for the entire service life of the car and is able to digest torque to 600 nm.

On the go, T5 remained true to himself. He is also strictly, shaking his whole body, passes through bumps, and also damn confidently holds the trajectory. You still need to try to bring down the T-shka from the intended path. A powerful hydraulic wrap does not deprive the driver with the necessary information about the roadbed. By the way, Transporter, Caravelle, California and Multivan now even in the most budgetary executions have a contrast system, which is now able to control the course stability of the road train, if the T5 is paired with a trailer!

In Russia, restyled T5 for the first estimates will appear in the spring of 2010. The cost is likely to remain unchanged. In Germany, cars are already sold in prices 22 15055 500 euros. Of the competitors in the Russian market, the T-shki to one degree or another Ford Transit, Renault Trafic, Fiat Ducato, Mercedes Viano, Peugeot Boxer.
