Tiguan a word derived from the names of two little similar and absolutely incompatible animals Tiger & Iguana (tiger and iguan). But in the process of breeding such an unusual animal concern, Volkswagen sensitively listened to real specialists in the field natives and rare animals to their final customers. Especially for them, Autobild magazine some time before the concept of the concept held a vote on the topic of the name of the future product. And the sonorous name Tiguan was almost unanimously chosen.

And now everything is a little more about everything.
Experiments with medium -sized all -resistant or, as it is now fashionable to call them, crossovers, Volkswagen began in 1968, introducing the public to the public not a car, but the real Amphibia of the VW Country Boogie. Later, several more exhibits appeared little known to the public or not at all intended for civilian use, such as, for example, VW Type 181188, nicknamed the ferret created exclusively for the Armed Forces. But the VW Golf Country has become the greatest success of past years in this class. The car, built on the basis of the second generation VW Golf, despite its Golf-class origin, had excellent geometric cross-country ability.
And finally, in 2006, the Tiguan concept was presented at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The VW chief Klaus Bishoff worked on his appearance, and it is logical that outwardly Tiguan is quite much reminiscent of his senior in class Touareg, successfully sold all over the world since 2002 and has gained the glory of the legendary SUV.
And already in 2007, a serial Tiguan was exhibited in Frankfurt, very much different from last year’s concept, which largely met the expectations of the suffering fans of the brand.
And only in 2008 the miracle of genetics reached Russia.
We were lucky one of the first to test this car in action, having spent almost 18 hours in the pilot’s chair and moved by more than 600 km.
At our disposal was a specimen of boiling white color, with modification of the Sport & Style body, 1.4 TSI engine and mechanical transmission.
Tiguan is also available in the SUV TRACK & FILD body, which, due to the city version of the bumpers and the landing chassis that is different from the city version, has a 28-degree entrance angle comparable to full-sized SUVs, as well as an off-road electronics package, activated by one single Off-Road button. This package includes the protection from overturning, recognition of the viscosity of the soil and the assistant descent from the mountain.
Both off -road modifications and the city are equipped with an automatic manual brake with the function of maintaining a car from rolling back Auto Hold. An electric hand brake can also be used as a reserve emergency braking system, which is evenly produced by all four wheels.
But even the city version has a very impressive off -road potential. We were able to verify this in the Kaluga region, on local, to put it mildly, not very good roads and with their complete absence in the fields.
The chassis of the chassis for Tiguan was the all -wheel drive Passat 4Motion of the latest generation B6, but of course, there were no modernization of nodes. Firstly, the latest generation Haldex is installed on the car, the work of which is fully automated and does not require any interventions. Haldex turns the car into all -wheel drive (50x50) at the slightest suspicion of difficult weather and road conditions or dangerous maneuvers.
Of the additional improvements on the front chassis, I would like to highlight the installation of a siphon of the shock. The driving manipulations are transferred to the wheels using a ballpoint or, as it is called otherwise, rolling bearing. And these two factors in combination completely exclude such unpleasant phenomena as holes and low -frequency vibrations on the steering wheel, and give the car the maximum accuracy in management.
And they also worked on the rear suspension very fruitfully, installing it on an enhanced subframe of high strength steels and supplying with shock absorbers with a large volume of oil to prevent the shock absorber to boil during a dynamic driving on a serious off -road.
The brake system, also borrowed from Passat, remained practically unchanged, in particular, there is a system of cleaning and drying the brake discs. But Tiguan boasts some off -road functions, as well as an active stabilization option, equipped with a full -fledged brake system of the trailer.
Armed with such an impressive set of serious technical solutions, Tiguan turns the movement from point A into point B to almost any distances into unprecedented pleasure.
There are, of course, small nuances, for example, in the work of the transmission and engine tandem. We noticed a failure in the first gear in the region of one and a half two thousand revolutions. The unpleasant aspect, especially in the city traffic mode, is most likely due to the transition from the compressor to the start of the turbine. Perhaps the integration of a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which is available with a 2.0-liter engine, solves this problem.
In general, dynamic, exchange rate, off -road drivers in one word, compared to obvious competitors, at an unprecedented height.
And then, finally, it's time to look on the other side of the doors to get to know the cabin better.
Having penetrated inside, we understand that we met an old acquaintance: the interior to Tiguan migrated from Golf completely and completely. But there is nothing shameful in this, since the salon is very ergonomic and functional. Air duct deflectors located on the central console in the amount of 8 pieces and regulated in all planes can be configured in an ideal way, which in long -distance trains is very important. An impressive number of pockets and boxes and retractable compartments under the seats will make it possible to place a huge number of trifles necessary on the road. The compartment is slightly embarrassed with an ashtray and cigarette lighter, the cover of which opens from top to bottom, which is slightly illogical and complicates access to the cigarette lighter, thereby complicating the connection of a device with a non-standard in dimensions and form for recharging.
The quality of the materials themselves and the fitting of the details, as always, is on top. The seats are comfortable and cozy and have a sufficient number of adjustments for a comfortable cover of large distances by car.
The rear passengers will feel like Tiguan is also quite free. The range of adjusting the rear seats in the horizontal plane is 16 cm, and you can adjust the back tilt within 40 degrees. If it is necessary to transport large -sized cargoes, the rear seats fold 2 to 1 and make it possible to transport an object long up to 2060 cm. The total volume of the equipped with a margin of trunk is 470 liters, and with the folded rear seats and without a spare wheel as much as 1,500 liters. The total carrying capacity of Tiguan is 650 kg. Plus, this is possible to fix the cargo up to 100 kg on the roof rails.

The basic cost of the city dialisted modification Sport & Style begins from a mark of 904,000 rubles per a car equipped with a 1.4 TSI engine and aggregated by a 6-speed mechanical transmission, and 1,053,550 rubles for a two-liter engine with an automaton. Prices for the SUV TRACK & FELD are identical to the above. You just have to choose a car that meets your needs and mood.
In 2009, Tiguans with a monotive (on the front wheels) and an updated Common Rail diesel engine will go on sale, with piezo nozzles, in which the computer can regulate the operation of each nozzle for any driving modes. Also, in 2009, very attractive additional options will be available: such as the Park Assist parking system, bi-xenon headlights, a rear view camera, an updated multimedia system with an adapted navigation for Russia and the Touch-Screen monitor.
