Test drive in Germany: VW Golf Twin-Drive

Since 2015, VW intends to produce its hybrid car on a serial scale, which will even be able to move over a fairly long distance on an electric motor

The word hybrid of VW does not like the word, which is why the corresponding Twin-Drive brand has been developed. The VW Golf Twin-Drive will soon appear, but so far only in limited quantities. The team of engineers, led by Jurgen Leohold, is going to release a small electric-fleot out of 20 copies by the beginning of 2012 to the city streets. 2 years before, according to one of the project developers, the VW Golf Twin-Drive model will already be brought to the corresponding level so that it was possible release it on a small scale. But in such matters you should not rush. Before the release of the car to the international market, it is necessary to conduct a considerable number of inspections. Such checks are already carried out in cooperation with the Government of Germany.

3 electric motor in Golf
The first trial car still on the basis of the former Golf V looks outside, like a regular serial copy without the absence of any advantages of a gasoline car. Only electric motors and connectors hidden in the rear wheels for connecting the charger in front and behind tell us about the new type of driving force unusual for our time. The following new elements are immediately striking in the salon of the cars: the E-Drive button, the display indicating the exact charge of the battery and a re -designed color display interface on the control panel, which is specially configured for all important moments of the proper rapidness of electricity.

The automatic transmission allows you to briskly start a diesel turbo engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and a capacity of 102 hp, or three electric motors with a total capacity of 122 hp. One motor is located next to the classic under the hood of the car, the other 2 take care that the rear wheels receive their portion of evetcroenergy. Such a rapilation of power in electrostrophy allows you to achieve excellent characteristics on the road, despite the use of innovations. Recall that the majority of those presented so far in the world electric vehicles or hybrids cannot boast of such characteristics as this sample. The developers say that the VW Golf Twin-Drive hybrid is also possible to simultaneously use both an internal combustion engine and electric motor to achieve the highest results.

3 control modes
It sounds quite difficult, but in practice everything is elementary. You need to know that 3 control modes are possible: only electr (for this you need to press the E-Drive button), only diesel and most importantly hybrid mode. At the last level, it is provided for the driver to choose the length of the alleged distance, and also, the possibility of passages, where it is worth switching only to electrodegies.

Together with Conti Temic, a special on -board electronics was developed, which allows you to optimally distribute energy. It is worth clicking on the gas pedal, as a car weighing 1.6 tons in electrostrophy reaches a speed of 100 km/h in 13.5 seconds. In classical mode, the same speed is reached in just 9.9 seconds. The charge is carried by lithium-ion batteries, which are located behind the rear axle. Because of this, the trunk volume decreases, and the weight of the car increases on the contrary by 160 kilograms.

The batteries are charged from a conventional electro -outlet, as well as during braking. In general, the Germans thought out well: while the diesel engine works, the battery is charged. Thus, not a single kilowatt will be wasted!

The first impressions
Hybrid Golf is no worse than an ordinary classic Golf. On the road, he behaves perfectly, and electric motors can be used as turbojet. Only on sharp turns sometimes feel the severity of weighty batteries in the rear of the car. It’s generally a fairy tale quietly, cute and no stinking around the city. In pure electroremies, you can drive up to 50 kilometers, and the maximum speed at the same time reaches 120 km/h. In hybrid mode, you can disperse the car to 170 km/h.
