There are no attempts to launch a tenth station wagon on a vase in a vase. Will we finally have our Cross Country? Looks like yes!
 
The main obstacle to the all -wheel drive station wagon to the consumer was its price. There was no conversation about the correctness of the chosen direction - it was confirmed not so much by its experience as the development trends of the world automotive industry in recent years.
 
The high cost of the VAZ-21116-04 (about $ 16500) was explained by the absence of its own, running in the production of an engine with sufficient power and a torque. There were also no full -wheel drive transmission nodes, which forced the developers to use imported components.
 
In the near future, everything will change in the root. Easy to equip the VAZ-21113-04 (the machine got the car from one of the previous developments) will surely interest buyers not only with their capabilities, but also at the price of 8-8.5 thousand dollars with an annual output of 5,000 cars. The novelty will be more expensive than the usual VAZ-2111 station wagon by only 1.5-2 thousand dollars. The only imported node in the design remains VISKUFT, made specifically for the vase by the GKN.
 
It was possible to significantly reduce the price of the 113th, first of all, by installing its own engine and gearbox. Now, under the hood of the station wagon, instead of the Opelian engine, there is a 1.8-liter motor of the Kalina family. True, so far this is an ordinary 8-valve power unit with a capacity of 93 hp. (145 Nm at 3600 min-1). Later, it will be replaced by the engine similar, but 16-valve, with an intake pipe of variable length, which will have a beneficial effect on the characterization of torque.
 
The developers also abandoned the aerodynamic hitch - expanders of wheel arches, linings on the thresholds, front bumper, and those that framed the windshield and the joint of the frame with the roof. The original, but expensive spoiler on the fifth door and the covered arcs of the trunk gave way to standard.
 
Of the more serious losses-the installation of 14-inch wheels instead of 15-inch (due to the refusal of extensors of wheeled arches). As a result, a decrease in clearance is from 180 to 170 mm.
 
In the cabin, the momo steering wheel, Opelian seats and the handle of the gearbox, the designers had to change to simpler and more familiar ten.
 
A number of changes in the chassis have been made. The front suspension is modernized. The ends of the reptile stabilizer are straight to the racks, as is customary at all advanced foreign cars. The transverse lever has become easier, the rotary fist is made of aluminum. The mass of the rear suspension subframe is reduced by 12 kilograms due to the use of thin -walled chromomolibden pipes.
 
As a result, the equipped mass of the VAZ-21113-04-only 1180 kg (fraction of all-wheel drive accounts for less than a centner). VAZ-21116-04 by 155 kg heavier.
 
How did all these changes affect the running qualities of the car? Let's try to compare the behavior of one hundred thirteenth and one hundred and sixteenth on the road. Sitting in the VAZ-21113-04, you find the interior of the eleventh station wagon familiar to the smallest detail, which does not give out fighting qualities of an all-wheel drive machine. However, an even and confident start immediately attracts attention. Then you note the high speed and smaller rolls while passing the turns. The 113rd clings tightly with four tires to the roadway, not wanting to let it go under any circumstances.
 
Of course, for the greater sharpness of impressions there was not enough snow or wet asphalt. Well, God be with that. Ultimately, not the last time we arrived in Togliatti.
 
The steering became more acute. The cruising speed increased to 150 km/h, that is, the one in which the station wagon gives a feeling of comfortable driving without tension. In VAZ-2111, it is approximately 130 km/h.
 
We move to the primer - the same confident movement and excellent smoothness as on the asphalt.
 
The machine overcomes herbal slopes without problems. Only slightly slipping with wheels on wet grass, it begins its unhurried run.
 
We send the 113rd to one of the clouded sections of the Vazovsky training ground. Rounding through the puddles, the car rises the fans of water and dirt. At the same time, it begins to bring it, but, manipulating the steering wheel and gas, we can easily keep the given trajectory.
 
In time, remembering that we are not riding a jeep, we smoothly unfold at speeds on a damp primer, but we fall into a fragmented clay, managing to throw the front wheels into it a quarter of their height. I did not have to get out of the car: starting with swing, and then giving full gas in the back gear, we managed to break out of the vile captivity.
 
The car pleasantly surprised by its cross -country ability. After further refinement, he can become on a par with Subaru Legacy Outback and Volvo V70 XC Cross Country, then at least with Toyota Corolla Carib and Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon.
 
There is something to bring. The 1.8 -liter motor is not yet serial - it is necessary to ensure that its operational characteristics correspond to the design. Another problem is the heat load of the exhaust system, which made the developers use reflective screens. Perhaps the source of overheating is a straight -flowing muffler of Remus.
 
And what is the 116th? Of course, the driver’s place, thanks to the use of Opelovsky seats and a more comfortable steering wheel, is more comfortable than ten. And the general style of the station wagon more fully meets the direction of Cross Country.
 
When accelerating and moving along the highway in the car, the powerful superiority of the 150-horsepower Opel engine is well felt. The cruising speed here increased to 160 km/h. An important role in patency is played by the presence of fifteen -inch wheels and an increased road clearance to 180 millimeters.
 
It would seem that the difference is in the nuances, but the cost of one hundred and thirteenth and one hundred and sixteenth breds these all -wheel drive station wagons into different flanks of consumer niches. The VAZ-21113-04 will fully satisfy the ordinary buyer, and the VAZ-21116-04 is designed for more demanding customers. Note that imported machines of this class are offered for 24 or more thousands of green.
 
The bureau of running layouts is ready to issue the necessary technical documentation to launch both cars into small -scale production. It seems that there will be no problems with homologation.
 
At first, when the release of less than two hundred cars a year, they could well be collected by a subsidiary of a VAZ - Lada -Tool company, which has experience in making charged one hundred and sixth - the closest relatives of the station wagons. Subsequently, when the number of machines assembled increases significantly, production can go under the guardianship of the VAZ OPP.
 
So, the case is small: the development of construction and consumer demand. However, the cars will probably be in demand: the fact that they are the best suited to Russian operating conditions, we believe, no one needs to prove.
