Russian dinosaur against the Far Eastern samurai: which of them will better lay the way through the Wild West? Lada Niva and Suzuki Jimny do not choose the road on impassability, almost nothing will stop them.
First of all, it is worth recalling that Lada Niva is by no means a new SUV. It was created for roads, which, probably in the next hundred years, will not be covered with asphalt and will not have rash. The three-door car in his homeland also appears in the image of a five-door version with almost any technical changes during the 31st year, moves from the conveyor of the plant in the city of Togliatti on the Volga River.
Against such a background, Suzuki Jimny 1.3 looks completely green. But he, too, began to conquer the hearts of fans of all -wheel drive in 1998. First with a hard roof, and after a year and in a modification with an open top.
Visually Niva and Jimny differ from each other, like ice and flame.
Lada is more like a compact sedan than an SUV. But this impression is deceptive under the bearing body, a rough all -wheel drive is hidden: behind the unreasonable bridge, an independent wheel suspension in front, between them, a hand -box, which, if necessary, can be completely blocked with a lever. In addition, the Niva has a reduction gearbox that allows her to climb like a turtle along the fallen trees and scattering cobblestones.
A short body overhang, a 22-centimeter road clearance and a strong metallic engine protection take care of everything else, so that with such adventures, only the body paint can suffer in the open spaces of the off-road. It is worth refusing to refuse a kangaroo from chrome plastic, it only interferes with overcoming obstacles. And the side thresholds made of steel for 590 euros installed in the jacks for the jack are not created at all so that Niva glides along the bumps, like a sleigh on the runners.
On Jimny, in the Comfort configuration, a test, there are no such trinkets, but each boy is already clear: this car will come in handy not only for shopping in the city. The 3.65-meter Suzuki has a frame on which the body holds. There are hard bridges in front and behind, which is very located to a real all -wheel drive adventure. In normal mode, Jimny rides only on the rear -wheel drive. Only when the button is pressed, the front -wheel drive is connected, while no strange separation of the power between the axes occurs. The reducing gearbox is also driven by an electric drive everything in this car is a little more convenient and more modern than in the Lada. Although Jimny cannot climb as far as Niva. On the highway, both cars lose their superiority: Niva hardly gains speed, and its noisy gearbox acts on the nerves. The entire decoration of the salon leaves a wretched impression. This also applies to devices: for example, the arrow of the sensor of the indication of the amount of fuel, with each steep turn, shows an empty tank to the right. And where else can you find mirrors that are regulated only by hand outside? Or a heavy whole rear seat to lay it out only together. But even worse, this is security: according to this parameter, Lada can be considered a museum exhibit. Weak brakes without ABS, no airbags, there are not even headrests from behind. What are you talking about the course stability system? In addition, the steering wheel sets only the approximate direction of movement. Does anyone want to send their family on this car on a big trip? Jimny shows how much better one can be. Although there is less space in it, it is equipped with much more expensive and technically modern equipment. But too long braking distance, poor control on wet coating, as well as the absence of a course stability system significantly reduce the Jimny rating.
As for the cost, Jimny is a more expensive car, but only when buying. Since Suzuki service costs cheaper, the attractiveness of the price of Lada is almost fading.
On the off -road, the Niva and Jimny do not scare anything. But there are problems on the highway: in Lada with its egregious absence of equipment that ensures safety, I don’t want to go along public roads, and in order to ride a technically more modern Suzuki, you need to have an ultra -strength spine.
