Test Drive SsangYong Kyron since 2004 SUV
Served three "Koreans"
Today's characters of our heading True KoreansAnd let the readers do not embarrass the Golden Cross on the Chevrolet Captiva lattice, collected near St. Petersburg: the car was created by Daewoo Motor specialists, only then became GM Dat. Yes, and SsangYong Kyron was not at all on the shores of Kama. Well, Hyundai Santa Fe and the real Korean from Ulsana at all. Although the car was made with an eye on America.
We will not give much a place to describe the appearance of our heroes. We note only the exterior of Chevrolet Captiva: thanks to the muscular arches and overlays of unscreased plastic, the crossover looks quite in combat. In the appearance of Hyundai Santa Fe there is no hint of a leaning to the off-road feats. And the only car in our today's Trinity, at least some appropriate for the title of real SUV, SsangYong Kyron and enjoys the minivan. Take a look at the soft abis of the body with highly dated front racks, big diagonal headlights
However, look into the salons. Leather seats with electric appliances settings can be found, of course, only in top versions. Based fabric. Driving places are allowed both traditional for SUVs the commander landing (high and close to the steering wheel) and a passenger relaxed. Captiva seat and steering column adjustment ranges are large enough. Baranki Kyron and Santa Fe are adjusted only by tilt and in relatively small limits. Koreans are read without problems. But the classic set of scales is decorated in different ways. For example, the Captiva dials falling on each other calm the eyes of a pleasant greenish backlight, Santa Fe shield is annoying as an obsessive neon sign. And only devoid of additional aesthetic loads Kyron devices are neutral and most informative.
In the rear sofas, three adults are placed without much difficulty. And together there are no problems at all: the feet for the legs in sufficiency even behind a very high driver, and the feet are easily placed under the high pendant chairs. True, high passengers will face a lack of air above his head in the header in any of the three Koreans do not sit. But if desired, the back of the seat can be folded back and traveling a midwife.
Unlike the Twin Brother Opel Antara, the Chevrolet crossover allows the installation of a third row of seats (and completely unhealed even an adult height of 180 cm does not support the head of the ceiling). Therefore, the trunk here is quite voluminous.
If you fold the seats of the second row, in the Captiva salon, it seems you can see the elephant and an elephant (and the tilted back of the front seat significantly facilitates the transportation of long-term vehicles). Note that loading large-sized swinging on the perfectly even low platform is very convenient. Well, with small things and that simpler: it is not necessary to open the large fifth door enough to raise the rear window. The fifth door Santa Fe rises only entirely. However, by the volume of the luggage compartment of Hyundai, also designed by sevenstal, the competitor almost does not lose. The rear seat folds to the floor level of the trunk, forming an impressive size of the truck or, if you like, sleeping place.
After folding the sofa Kyron, the perfectly smooth floor you will not get the nearly noticeable threshold. However, the compartment is almost as capacious as the opponents, and the covered niches in the floor and the walls of the trunk here are also
Well, our heroes salons are quite preparatory and comfortable. And what are they on the go? Depending on the temperament and financial capabilities, the future owner of Captiva can choose one of two gasoline engines with a working volume of 2.4 and 3.2 liters, developing 136 and 230 horsepower, respectively. As a transmission, a 5-speed mechanic is offered or (for surcharge) automatic with the same number of gears. Hurricane dynamics is pretty heavy Captiva with a basic power unit (not to mention the version with the machine) does not please. Especially acute is perceived against the background of Santa Fe, available from us with only 2.7-liter 189-strong gasoline V6 and MCP-5 or ACP-4. But the comparison with the 150-strong Kyron 2.3 AT-4 crossover Chevrolet has been withstanding almost on equal. By the way, SsangYong can be purchased not only with gasoline, but also with a diesel 2-liter 141-strong engine. Both motor are aggregated with both mechanical and automatic transmission, and the diesel engine is a 5-speed automatic.
Be that as it may, our heroes go differently, but everyone is not bad. From the point of view of acoustic comfort, the Big Claims did not arise. So, on trifles: Motors on high revs are noisy, it would not hurt to be better to isolate the wheel arches. But the aerodynamic noise even at very high speeds is almost not heard. Yes, and the smoothness of the stroke is generally worthy praise. Especially good in this Plan Captiva and Kyron. But Santa Fe pendants are tuned more hard.
What about handling? Captiva will respond to the steering wheel with a noticeable Lenza. However, informative in most cases is sufficient. Only with sharp maneuvers, the car shows a noticeable tendency to the drift, which, however, is effectively quenched by the stabilization system. But the direct crossover keeps wonderful, almost without looking at the quality of the road surface.
Santa Fe steering wheel, reactive action is present in almost all modes. Moreover, the sensitivity is growing with increasing speed, but does not become excessive. As a result, Hyundai is clearly on a straight line, with maneuvers there are no delays, minimal rolls and a hollow steering wheel. The carrying body with high angular rigidity and independent suspension of all wheels provide almost a rather large crossover of almost passenger controllability.
It is quite decent for a heavy, almost dual-ton, frame SUV with a continuous back bridge behaves on the road and Kyron. The accuracy of taxiing here, of course, is noticeably lower than that of rivals, and rolls in turns above.
However, the straight car is very confident, and in skillful hands it turns out very maneuverable.
In general, in the city stream, the driver SsangYong is definitely not felt definitely. And on the off-road and suppressed. Outside the asphalt Kyron will easily give odds not only to crossovers. An impressive ground clearance, relatively small base and skes provide this Korean with good geometric permeability. In the off-road arsenal, a rigidly connected front axle, a reduction transmission and a self-locking reverse bridge differential (optional).
From the off-road arsenal at the disposal of the driver Hyundai only the possibility of forced blocking a multi-disc electromagnetic clutch in the rear wheel drive. Chevrolet has no and that. Forcedly block a similar coupling, self-connecting rear wheels when the front slip is impossible here.
In fact, the only means activated directly steering, the descent control system: the button with a characteristic icon is located on the central console. There are no interstole locks from these machines: crossovers are able to withstand diagonal hanging. Therefore, a more or less serious obstacle like snowy virgin, sandy velvets or splashing clay is better to overcome with the move (it is even better not to surpass on a suspicious site). Stopped sat down. Bounce and rock the car, trying to rescue it from captivity, it is especially not worth it: even more wake up. And most importantly, minutes for twenty desperate struggle you risk overripe that the most multi-disc clutch and lose the full drive at all. At least until it cools
So, each of the heroes of our heading is attractive in its own way. Due to the specific design of SsangYong confidently the rest feels like off-road. The asphalt hero would be called Hyundai. And from the point of view of utility, Chevrolet leads. After all, only Captiva is offered in our seven-storey execution.
The last argument in the dispute, as usual, will become money. Captiva 2.4 Ls with four airbags, ESP, air conditioning, CD / MP3 radio, parking sensors and heated electric boards costs $ 29,990. Supplement for AKP and luggage seats $ 2200.
Somewhat more expensive ($ 31,400) will cost KYRON 2.3 Original C ABS, two airbags, air conditioning, heated seats, a complete electric car. Version with ACP, climate control, light and rain sensors cost $ 4,000 more expensive.
For Santa Fe GL (six airbags, air conditioning, heated front seats, electric mirrors) are asked $ 36 990. For the ACP, climate control and heating mirrors need to pay $ 3100.
Crash Test Chevrolet Captiva
Basic Captiva base tests under the crash tests under the EUROnCAP method. The car performed well: moving the pedals and the steering wheel normally, but the front panel is recognized by traumatic. When you hit the Captiva pillar, one point was missing: the safety curtain was not completely revealed. In the amount of 31 points, or 4 stars. Not everything is smooth and with the protection of passenger-children (3 stars out of 5) during the front test of their chest cells experienced increased loads. Pedestrian rating Experts rated in 2 stars out of 4: the edge of the hood is too tough.
Crash test SsangYong Kyron
It is reliably known that solid international organizations like Euroncap or NHTSA crash tests SsangYong Kyron (as, however, and other models of this manufacturer) were not performed. In the absence of an authoritative opinion, it will risk assumed that the means of active and passive security (in the ABS base, frontal pillows, belts with pretensioners) will be enough to preserve the life and health of the driver and passengers of the Korean SUV. And hop the quality of the assembly, of course.
Krash Test Hyundai Santa Fe
In the tests according to the EURONCAP methodology, the crossover showed itself not bad. Experts estimated a high level of protection, but they pointed to a potentially dangerous front panel, also noting the brake pedal mixed back almost 100 mm. With lateral blow, the car was fined on one point overtook the safety curtains. As a result, 29 points, or 4 stars.
With child safety, Santa Fe is a little better than Captiva, 37 points against 36 (3 stars). But for Pedestrians, Hyundai, who did not collect a single point, is deadly dangerous.
Chevrolet Captiva.
+ Powerful engine, comfortable salon, spacious trunk.
- slippery pushing seats, uncomfortable handbrake, bad on off-road.
SsangYong Kyron.
+ Under deposits, a real SUV, a relatively low price.
- Buttons on the steering wheel, exterior design on an amateur.
Hyundai Santa Fe.
+ Good value for money, good dynamics, spacious salon.
- Pretty voracious with a small volume of tank, scissor instead of a handler.
