On the forums, the owners of the Octavius \u200b\u200bwith the 1.4 TSI engine often complain of extremely slow heating during frosts, the engine barely heats up, and in the cabin the first half hour has to sit almost in a sheepskin coat and hat. That's why we decided to arrange a Skoda test 1.4 TSI in winter. We got another bonus car with almost 20,000 mileage, which we were very happy, since various kinds of crickets crawl out less often on new cars.

Why? The official reason is that the DSG plant does not cope with demand and to reduce the waiting time for the order, we were again offered an automatic. But it is possible that claims to the reliability of the robot affected this decision. However, we will return to this topic, talk about trim levels and prices, but for now we will try to give an answer to the question whether Octavia really does not like this engine with the Russian winter.

It is a pity that the real frosts we did not have time to hook the thermometer column during the test dropped at least -15 degrees Celsius. But even then, Skoda Octavia made us dress warmer. Of course, there can be no any problems with cold starting in such weather. But then the most interesting begins. The engine operates at idle, climate control is turned off, we cut the time. Octavia has a commendably large zone of windshield cleaning, but there is no rear wiper, although Octavia has a body with a lifting rear door. Moreover, the glass cleaner for the Ambition equipment cannot be ordered even for the surcharge, but the rain sensor and a mirror with auto -plating are included in the equipment
Therefore, it is better to go into sports mode when the box forgets about the highest gear. Of course, you can spur a cold motor, but it seems to us blasphemy. In a city where the cycles of accelerations and braking are constantly alternating a little better, but this does not change the overall picture in Octavia 1.4 TSI will be cool for a long time. It is only pleasing that DSG works well and there are practically no delays on cold jerks.
In order for the coolant temperature arrow to be exactly in the middle, you will have to wait a long time. It’s good at least that there is a heating of the seats. Climate control works effectively (provided that the engine is warmed up), but the effort on the temperature adjustment handles is too little skipping the desired value
Fortunately, the Ambition Skoda Octavia is already equipped with three -level heating seats. There is also heating of the mirrors and nozzles of the windshield washer. But it is not clear why, even as an option for octavia with this engine, an additional electric heater is not offered, which are often used on cars with diesel engines. Judging by the reviews, there are similar winter problems with other models of the concern with 1.4 TSI. Although, in fairness, we note worth a temperature to get to the mark of 6-7 degrees of frost, as the situation became much better. But we do not have Europe and not so soft winters! And what will happen in minus 30? The question is open ...
Strange, but the protection of the crankcase was plastic! Although it should be noted that there is a decent supply of space under it, we have never struck her. Otherwise, Skoda Octavia did not cause us claims from the point of view of winter operation. The salon does not rumble, the fuel consumption in the city cycle did not exceed 10.4 l/100 km with a very decent dynamics of 9.7 seconds to a hundred. And if you ride calmly, it completely drops below 9 l/100 km. On 15-inch wheels with bold tires 195/65 R15, the smoothness of the course is good even on a blowing suspension. In addition, in the Russian market, Octavia is equipped with a package for bad roads, that is, it can boast of an enlarged clearance. But it was surprised by the fact that at the same time only plastic crankcase protection was installed on the machine!
It is worth praising Octavia for behavior on winter roads. The stabilization system will unobtrusively suffer in slippery bends, and the TREKSHN copes well with the excess torque (200 N ∙ m in the range of 1500-4000 rpm). Skoda’s behavior remains always predicted and thanks to an informative steering wheel. And how deliciously it throws the rear axle when discharging gas! In any case, on winter tires (on our car there are nokian hakkapeliitta 7 studded tires). In general, despite the conservative appearance, Skoda Octavia can cause positive emotions even in an active driver.
