Skoda Fabia Hatchback test drive since 2010 Hatchback

Great again!

At the end of March, Russian Skoda dealers began to accept orders for the updated Fabia hatchback (sales will begin in June)

Given that for the first time the restyled family was presented in early March in Geneva, Chekhov’s efficiency should be glad. Nevertheless, without bad news, there would not be a truly updated model in Russia will not be sold!

The main goal of the started metamorphosis was by no means stylistic changes. They are an absolutely by -product. First of all, the Czechs faced the task of making friends with the line of new Volkswagen TSI-motor, which meet the requirements of the Euro-5 standard, which will become mandatory in the EU in the future of January. But that Europe. Russia still pushes Euro-3 the introduction. Therefore, in fact, we will remain with the old power units.
After all, the two-fiber (a combination of compressor and turbine) 1.2-liter engines are even more demanding on the quality of fuel than, say, we are quite common with 1.8 TSI. The second problem is the quality of service. The brand has no complaints about the authorized servicemen, but many customers can easily afford to delay the planned one or three thousand kilometers, which, of course, is not reflected in the best way. Well, the third reason is the cost. Fabia with a 1.2-liter turbo engine will become more than ten percent. In conditions of rigid competition in the class, this is a lot, especially since the Czechs do not have the desire to give in to the positions won last season: the model received an honorable fifth place in sales among foreign cars in the B-class, and the brand itself in the absolute standings rose to the thirteenth. In general, Skoda promised to save at the same level.

On the one hand, this is pleasing, but on the other hand, without an updated power line, the Fabia restyling is generally losing its meaning, since visual changes turned out to be extremely insignificant. Of course, the Czechs installed more massive bumpers, a radiator grille and a fit optics on the car ... But that's all. In appearance, the model has become a little more solid, but at the same time it is unlikely that an unknown observer on the move will distinguish one version from another. Moreover, metamorphosis is generally invisible from behind.

Not too many changes in the cabin. The architecture is still worthy of the rank of quintessence of the corporate style of the VW group (with the release of the new Polo Fabia became almost the German among one-platform models). The salon is extremely passive in terms of style, but still perfectly collected and functional. After restyling, more chromium appeared inside, and an AMUDSEN multimedia system with support for the Touch Screen’s function settled on the central console. In addition, the instrument panel received moon-white backlight, as in all modern Skoda and VW. The Mobile Device Interface (MDI) system appeared in the arsenal, which allows you to connect the iPod, Aux-in, USB and Mini-USB, as well as new multifunction rudders, but these are already trifles, but you will not find other changes.

This could have been completed, since we wrote about the advantages of the previous Fabia engines, as well as about its running qualities. But hope, as you know, dies the last. The Czechs have not yet made the final decision on the configuration of the motor line. Obviously, the most popular hatchback modifications will be equipped with atmospheric units with a volume of 1.2 liters (60 and 70 hp), 1.4 liters (86 hp) and 1.6 liters (105 hp). But at the same time, the manufacturer prevents the manufacturer from studying the demand for TSI engines on the example of some niche modification like a practical, but low-voltage COMBI or the news of Fabia Scout (only the station wagon was produced with such a prefix). The latter option, by the way, is more likely: unlike other modifications, Scout will be imported, which means that it will be significantly more expensive than the usual version. And this, in turn, means that you do not need to spend extra strength and time to replace the European engine with Russian. It remains to wait for the Moscow motor show, where Fabia Scout will be officially presented.

As for the engine itself, with the same power (105 hp), TSI goes much more fun than a 1.6-liter atmosphere, and it consumes noticeably less fuel. However, who would doubt it: he gives out the maximum of traction (175 Nm) at 1550 revolutions, moreover, the regiment of the moment begins to fall only after 4000 revolutions ... Sorry, but the enchantic 1.6-liter turbodiesels (90 and 105 hp) Europeans will not bring to us in any case. They go truly cool, differing not only in excellent traction, but also with elasticity. The consumption is kept at 44.5 liters, and this is with quite active pedaling. In general, comments here, as they say, are unnecessary.
