So the novelty in the modeling line Cayenne takes the place between the versions of S and Turbo and is built according to the first generation of the GTS recipe: more powerful, lower, wider, tougher. But if the first Cayenne GTS was painfully sports, then in the new model the creators tried to achieve a certain compromise between comfort and drive. Let's see what came of it.

The basis was taken by Cayenne S, an atmospheric 4.8 -folly V8 of which was forced by 15 liters. p., up to 420 l. with., And the torque increased from 500 to 515 Nm. It seems that the increase is small, but not the main power, but how the engine disposes of it. Review of gas is lightning -otic, the thrust of the atmospheric engine is flat throughout the scale, without failures, which is very convenient when overtaking on short serpentines of the Austrian Alps, where part of the test route passed.

Fast and modified 8 -speed automatic transmission Tiptronic S. Unlike the first generation, the car gearbox is no longer offered on Cayenne GTS. And this is also a nod towards comfort, but without compromising sports. After all, the transmission of the assets at the machine gun, thanks to the new electronic control, became even faster, and, coupled with a shortened main transfer, acceleration to hundreds is only 5.7 C verses of 6.5 in the old model.

And how amazing GTS sounds! The merit in this belongs to a special configuration of sound from the intake and release system. When the SPORT mode is turned on, 2 special channels of the Sound Symposed acoustic resonator are involved, coming from the inlet systems to the front stands of the body and transmitting the engine timbre into the car. The release is equipped with opening damper, which give out a powerful, sports, thoroughbred roar. And when transmitting a lower transmission, racing shots from the exhaust pipe are heard.


But the main highlight of the chassis settings. Compared to Cayenne S, on GTS they thoroughly shook the suspension. It became lower by 24 mm in the case of a standard suspension on steel springs and 20 mm in an option with optional pneumatics. The track of the rear wheels increased by 17 mm, 20 -inch low -profile discs (21 -inch options) go in the base. In addition, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system includes the car, which, using electronics, regulates the rigidity of shock absorbers depending on the condition of the roadway and driving style. At the same time, one of the three work algorithms can be forcibly: Comfort, Normal and Sport. The first of them is fully consistent with its name, and it is quite comfortable in it, but it is worth going to Sport, as it turns out that the ideal Austrian highway is not so perfect, and at the junction of the autobahn the car begins to noticeably shake.

Test cars were also equipped with optional air suspension, which allows you to raise the body to overcome obstacles, which we took advantage of, taking a picture for the title page when it was necessary to move out of the road. Paired with pneumatic suspension, you can order a system of suppression of Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) rolls, which, using active stabilizers, almost completely eliminates the body tilts in corners.


The seats have eight adjustments and provide good side support

We managed to test all this, quickly passing countless ligaments of the turns of the alpine serpentines and the racing track. Indeed, despite the fairly high center of gravity, Porsche is practically not fired. After some time, you completely forget that you are driving not a sports compartment, but a rather rather big and heavy SUV. Only a high landing and brakes reminded about this on time.

The brake system migrated here from the Eska and at the 35 -degree heat in combat conditions on heavy Cayenne quickly overheated and surrendered. I had to drop the pace a little in order to cool the brake discs, and my ardor, too, so as not to fly into a multi -meter gorge. So for track days it is better to spend money on optional ceramic brakes: they are less prone to heating and are more stable.

GTS standards
The first -generation Cayenne GTS saw the light in 2007 and spread around the world in the amount of 15,766 pieces. The atmospheric V8 engine developed a power of 405 hp, and the torque was 500 nm. The main difference from other versions of Cayenne was a sporting configured underestimated chassis on steel springs. The base proposed a manual gearbox. With her, Cayenne GTS gained a hundred for 6.1 s and developed 253 km/h. The results with a machine gun were slightly more modest than 6.5 s and 251 km/h.

 
Our verdict
Porsche engineers managed to compromise: the new Cayenne GTS is quite universal, but at the same time a sports car that is well suitable for both everyday driving and to satisfy racing ambitions on the track, you just need to press the Sport button. And in the presence of a Cayenne air suspension, light off -road can also overcome. The main thing is that the high -speed tires have something to cling to.
