You need to blame only fashion. For a long time, the SUVs are in demand by customers, and only completely scattered automakers could lose sight of the fact that jeeps have a good way to make money. But when even BMW joined the race, creating the first off -road sports car, Porsche had no choice but to join. Fortunately, the experience in constructing the speedyness made it possible to fly above the same Bavarians and make a real off -road supercar. And everything else did not have to go far behind the platform: friends from Volkswagen were already working on Touareg. It remained only to take their cart and bring Porsche to shiny standards. I must say, the Germans did a great job, and by 2002 they launched the famous Cayenne model in production. However, having earned the title of controversial machine, she still trumps them ...
 
The main part of the discussions provokes the appearance of this car. As soon as Cayenne was called: a freak and a parody of Porsche, and a pregnant woman 911th ... One is indisputable: with a strange facial expression, Cayenne has a pumped-up body, moreover, a restyled version that appeared in 2007 demonstrates much less frivolity, rather than a machine produced before. However, no matter what eyes Cayenne looks at you. From the point of view of reliability, the body of any version is good: the metal is solid, the paint is high -quality, and you should not think about rust. True, before buying it is better not to regret money for diagnostics, since it is not just an SUV, but a very fast SUV, and it is likely to run into a broken copy. And then the likely problems with the electrician (burned out light, the refusal of the electric drive, etc.) will seem fun.

As for the assessment of the salon, the automotive public has not yet come to a consensus: some does not suit the quality of finishing materials (hard plastic in large quantities), and others the density of interfacing of different parts. But there are also disadvantages for all: in terms of the volume of the Cayenne salon, it is far from a leader in his class. For the same money, cars exist much more spacious, moreover, with three, and not in two rows of seats. But there is no and cannot be to equip the SUV: we are talking about a premium car, and it is quite natural that it is first-classly equipped.
 
The driving properties of the largest Porsche at the moment aroused both delight and bitter disappointment. As a rule, those who considered the Porsche emblem itself were upset by a magical remedy: they say, since it was attached, the car is simply obliged to overthrow the laws of physics and drive like a real sports car. Naturally, Cayenne did not live up to their expectations: this is a jeep! And before moving, this postulate should be accepted. Then there will be much more positive emotions: for a heavy SUV, Cayenne management is very pleasant, it makes the impression of a tightly knocked down and obedient car (you just have to pay a reduced level of combustion). It is especially pleasing how the car goes along the highway: the driver and at high speed feels quite confident. Cayenne accelerates playfully: even the atmospheric eight drags this community quite cheerfully, and the turbo engine ends it with phenomenal dynamics (SUVs that overshadowed the Cayenne high -speed potential later, and in 2002 he was, consider the only one of its kinds). At the same time, the car demonstrates good cross -country ability (many specimens are equipped with a pneumatic suspension that allows you to highly lift the body).
 
Before starting a conversation about engines and transmission, you should make a reservation: yes, Cayenne is extremely expensive in repair and maintenance, yes, it breaks. However, its creators are not to blame for everything: some defects, of course, are caused by miscalculations in the structure, but problems that occur as a result of too hard operation occur. There are sports machines (for example, Toyota Mark II Tourer V), which can be mocked as you like they will still not be crumbling. Cayenne does not apply to them: it was created for a calm ride with periodic annealing, and if you drive it constantly on it, then problems will begin, and fuel consumption is very upset.
 
Until 2007, the line of engines intended for Cayenne had three engines: 3.2-liter V6, borrowed from VW (250 hp), 4.5-liter atmospheric V8 of its own development (340 hp), as well as eight of the same volume, but with two turbochargers (450521 hp). After 2007, the basic power unit was replaced with a 290-horsepower 3.6-liter V6, and an eight with an engine with a volume of 4.8 liters (385405 hp without turbines, 500550 horses with a boost). In addition, recently, a 3-liter 240-horsepower diesel engine began to install on Cayenne. But such machines have not yet been widely distributed, so it’s too early to talk about the reliability of the motor (as in general about the durability of the units installed since 2007 on Cayenne). But much is known about the old engines, especially about the V8. In particular, the ignition coils are considered consumable (they burn, by the way, in versions with V6), and when aggressive driving the V8 consumes excess oil, so it is necessary to monitor its level so as not to kill turbines or engine. And this is not a horror story: many owners managed to slide the engines to such a state that not a single service was taken up for their bulkhead. In addition, German power units do not like low -quality gasoline: having refueled the fuel of dubious quality, you can get to an unscheduled replacement of candles. If the machine does not tear or violate the operating conditions, then the main investments will be limited to conducting every 10 thousand km with a change in oil and filters.
 
Almost all boxes installed on Cayenne are automatic (manual transmission in nature exists, but specimens equipped with a pen are extremely rare). Those who travel more or less calmly do not deliver any special problems, but among the owners-porchers, machine guns periodically fail.
 
The suspension cannot be called very weak: the main details are quite durable, including pneumatic racks. However, there are still weaknesses: these are the racks of the rear reptile stability stabilizer, as well as the silent blocks of the lower levers of the front suspension (both of them may have to be changed at every second then). Weak and brakes: as a result of sharp stops, brake discs can be crumpled.
 
Yes, Cayenne is a controversial machine, and this applies not only to appearance and character. Regarding the reliability of consensus, too, is not achieved. Someone travels and does not know grief, and someone constantly invests money in the car ... However, no matter how controversial the car is, his commercial success is obvious. And you should not accept messages about the unreliability of this machine as a sentence: specimens that are very pouring, as a rule, are of American origin. And everyone knows in what condition cars come from behind the ocean. But if the temptation to buy Cayenne from the States (by the way, the poorly poorly poorly put up cars are brought from there) is so large, then it is necessary to at least break through the car at the Carfax base.
