Peugeot takes another novelty to the Russian market. In the company to the model with index 508, the French introduced another Peugeot 408 sedan.


The new 408th should become the key model of Peugeot in the Russian market. It was not for nothing that the car came to us only two years after its debut: it has long been successfully sold in China and South America. But these two years are not just a marketing wire. We prepared the car specifically for Russia and tried to take into account all the wishes of the Russian buyer, the French proudly declare.


The design of the sedan turned out to be quite balanced. The most controversial moment is the rear lights.

The requirements of the Russian market for people's cars have long been known: a sedan with a spacious salon, a large trunk, a high clearance, an impenetrable suspension and an affordable price. From this they began to dance. And they danced in a point, taking as a basis a hatchback with an index 308, the wheelbase of which was stretched for as much as 109 mm. In its size, Peugeot 408 surpasses all the main competitors, giving way to the Vsevolozhsk bestseller Ford Focus in width.


The length of the 408th is 4703 mm, the width is 2815 mm, the height is 1505 mm, and the wheelbase is 2717 mm. In its size, the Frenchman is the largest car in the class, yielding only Ford Focus in width.

Hence the scope in the cabin. With my average growth of the place behind the driver’s seat, it remains almost in a full-fledged business class, and large rear doors facilitates landing and landing. During the adaptation of the machine to the realities of the Russian market, the pre -production samples were driven not only around the plant in Kaluga, but they looked behind the Urals and even experienced the rigid conditions of the Arctic. As a result, Peugeot 408, as no one else, was completed in order to consistent with the needs of potential customers from Russia. The car is equipped with a more powerful battery and generator, the plant is already installed at the plant, and all gasoline versions, including turbocharged, are adapted to 92nd gasoline.


There is no xenon and electrical designation of lateral mirrors even for a surcharge. The basic version is equipped with steel wheels, and alloy wheels with a diameter of 16 and 17 inches are more expensive for complete sets. But this is far from all. In Russia, glass, gas tank, rear lights, exhaust system, wheels, tires, bumpers, electrical wiring, some outer body panels, seats, noise insulation, front panel and almost all the elements of the interior decoration are made.

In our market, the Peugeot 408 will be offered with four engine options: three gasoline and one diesel and all with a volume of 1.6 liters. The basic version with a capacity of 110 hp It is offered only with 5-speed mechanics at a price of 549,000 rubles. At a press conference, the product manager Anatoly Filatkin emphasized that the basic version is not a marketing move, often used to attract a client with a minimum price, but a real modification that will be available to the order along with the rest.

The next version is equipped with an atmospheric 1.6-liter engine of joint development of Peugeot and BMW, which develops 120 hp. As an alternative to mechanics, it can be equipped with a four -speed AT8 automatic machine, which is a modernized heir to the former AL4, which has filled many pegovodes. The entrance price tag for this car with automatic transmission is quite attractive 644,000 rubles. Finally, the top modification is equipped with a turbocharged version of the same unit. The 150-horsepower Peugeot 308 is offended only with a 6-speed AISIN automatic transmission at a price of 746,000 rubles.

The diesel brethren is represented by a 112-horsepower engine with a maximum moment of 254 nm and declared average consumption of only 5 liters per 100 km. This decision in Peugeot was explained by the desire to offer the 408th at the most affordable price, while the diesel models of competitors, on the contrary, are offered only with rich equipment, which makes them uncompetitive.


By the volume of the trunk of 560 liters, the Peugeot 408 shares the first place with the Skoda Octavia. The lid is equipped with gas stops and two inner handles. True, if you fold the rear sofa, it does not work exactly, and the opening itself is not too large.

For all the rationality of the range of engines and deep Russian adaptation, only turbocharged sedans in the maximum configuration of Allure were available for the test, although the Pozhovites themselves are expected to predict the most popularity of the 120-horsepower version with automatic transmission. It is possible that in Peugeot Russia decided to cheat, having received more flattering reviews. After all, the tandem of a 150-horsepower engine and a 6-speed assault rifle has repeatedly proved its worth at first on the Peugeot 308, and then on the new PEUGEOT 508 sedan, while a 120-horsepower engine and automatic transmission about four steps do not shine with dynamics.

Acceleration at the Peugeot 408 with a 1.6-liter turbo engine is not a hurricane, but you can’t call it sluggish. According to the passport, the sedan gains 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds. The characteristic of the motor is even, without pronounced bursts, but also without failures. The machine and the engine operate harmoniously: the reduced gears are turned on with a slight delay, but timely, switching occurs smoothly, and when the automatic transmission is slowed, he carefully thrusts the lowered, helping to slow down with the engine. Traditionally, Aisin transmission has sports and winter modes, as well as the possibility of manual switching.


PEUGEOT 408 copes with small and medium irregularities. Does not graze the sedan on the ground. Perhaps, only Renault Logan can be compared by the energy intensity of the suspension.

The appearance of an additional round of springs and enlarged stabilizers made itself felt. On the broken road, Peugeot 408 goes like a armored train along the rails, easily swallowing small and medium pits. A similar situation is on the lanes, where even impressive pods affect the salon only in small pokes. In this discipline, Peugeot is omnivorous almost like an impenetrable Renault Logan.

The sedan was ready for Russian directions! And what about good coating? Did the gross increase have not affected controllability? Indeed, on a flat road, the suspension donor of the 408th hatchback Peugeot 308 is at least excitement.


It’s not bad on a straight line. Even when the speedometer is far beyond the hundred, the sedan is deprived of the buildup, does not dance in the ruts and keeps a given course well. The first cool turn. I deliberately go into it with excess speed in anticipation of a large roll, but to my surprise, the 408th only leaned on the front of the outer wheel and rather confidently enrolled in the indicated arc. Yes, there is no excitement of the hatchback, in zero the steering wheel is not enough information content, and the effort on the steering wheel is growing not linearly, but, damn it, with its tasks of a reliable and roomy sedan for Russian roads, Peugeot 408 copes perfectly. And in many ways this was achieved due to the meticulous adaptation, to which Peugeot engineers approached with all responsibility.

Do Pejo responsibly states that the plans for the Peugeot 408 to bring the sedan into the bestsellers of the brand and enter the five best -selling cars of the Class C. ambitious? Undoubtedly. However, the 408th has all the makings for this, so the tasks set models seem to be quite real.
