Peugeot 307 SW six years ago surprised us with a non-trivial understanding of the station wagon: it turned out to be something close to minivan. The new 308 SW repeats the same concept. The idea of \u200b\u200beasy changes that bring the maximum effect fits perfectly into the concept of an economical method of creating new models. This resembles the idea of \u200b\u200bpoint development, only here the inhabitants of the built -up area do not object to the landscape changes at all.
The design of the car is not easy to change, so carriers create new types, mixing existing ones. Peugeot seven years ago, in order to give new qualities to the usual hatchback 307, made it like a minivan - and the customers liked this. Then, six years ago, Peugeot made a station wagon 307 on almost the same recipe itself ... even two station wagons. Firstly, just Break (which means French universal), and secondly-SW. The second was distinguished by a glass roof and the third next to two additional places. By the way, this abbreviation does not have any official decoding: as they said in Peugeot, this is not Siaiion Wagon. If you want, you can call this Sky Wagon - because thanks to a glass roof, an excellent view of the sky opens here, ”the French explained.
We recall the previous generation, not only for the sake of demonstrating awareness and good memory. When creating a model 308 Peugeot, I decided to minimize costs, so that a number of low -noticeable but important structural elements were preserved from the model 307. The approach is not new (recall Opel Astra, Cadillac CTS, Audi A4 of the two previous generations, etc.) and quite effective - if it Designers are able to work. Peugeot designers are able to: the invariability of the body frame did not stop them from radically changing the nature of the shape of the car. We were already pleased with this with the example of the hatchback (A No. 03/2008), and now we can appreciate the fantasy using the example of the station wagon. It is again called SW, and again you need to decrypt yourself. Judging by the increased hardness of the body (15 percent higher than the 307 SW), an enlarged rut and luxurious new development engines with BMW. The Sport Wagon option will be quite appropriate. Especially if the 1.6-liter TNR turbo engine is combined with a new six-speed mechanics.
The station wagon is not just an elongated copy of the hatchback. As it was at 307. At 308 SW, designers worked with the rear stand, and we can see the general features with other universals of the company - 407 SW and 207 SW. But in an improved version: there is no longer just a reverse slope, which G. as an original part uses almost the whole world - including Mercedes -Benz and Kia. And Peugeot perfectly beat the original rear window, which we liked so much on the hatchback 308.
The elegant interior design of 308 fits no less successfully into the new station wagon. Chromely rims of devices and a pleasant texture of the panels are left here from the hatchback. And the base increased by 100 mm is from 307 SW. Break versions are now not formally, but there are starting modifications indicated by Contort and Confort Pack. They have five places (in the back instead of separate seats - a triple folding sofa) and a steel roof. All the charms of multifunctionality of almost minivan can be tested, starting with the configuration Confort Pack Plus. In it, the middle row consists of three separate chairs with all their traditional advantages: they can be moved in the longitudinal direction, folded and removed. Unlike minivans, the third row is not entirely interchangeable with the second. The fasteners of the seats are the same. But it’s not worth changing them in places: a medium -sized person can still get into standard compact chairs in the third row, but if you put full -fledged chairs from the middle row there, it’s already completely inconvenient to sit down.
Of course, all chairs are added so that a flat platform is formed. In addition, the back of the front right seat is provided, and as a result, it will be possible to transport objects more than three meters in 308 SW. So another decryption of SW-Space Wagon is quite acceptable. The technique of point improvements involves increased attention to trifles, and 308 SW boasts a decent amount of various compartments for small things and other amenities. The number of which includes the nest for connecting electrical appliances (12 V) in the trunk, as well as the rechargeable flashlight, which in a fixed state works as one of the lighting lamps of the cargo compartment. Not too new, but a useful idea - the opening glass of the fifth door. It is not only in short, it also rises by only 84.5 degrees, and the door itself is as much as 93. You yourself understand what space is saved at the same time! But, like many excesses, such glass will not get customers of the simplest versions - save so to save.
The main question, which often arises in connection with the design features of the family of 308 and specifically 308 SW - why is this not a minivan? After all, this is the realization of almost the very ideas that once brought the success of the Renault Espace and Renault Megane Scenic, but with some correction. Namely, Peugeot is lower. Just not as high as real minivans. And this is solved at once several problems. It is due to a small height that the car retains a relatively low center of gravity - like a normal passenger car. With all the ensuing consequences like stability on the road and the sensations of the driver. After all, no matter how practical minivans are, there are many drivers who do not like loading impressions of their management. The station wagon helps to solve these problems - and 308 SW, perhaps the most striking representative of such a compromise. New motors, like on the hatchback, are an excellent addition to excellent chassis settings. In addition to the already mentioned six -speed box, the Robotized AM6 transmission will be very interesting, but it, unfortunately, is used only with the most powerful 2.0l/136l diesel. And about whether they will supply diesel versions to Russia is not yet known. However, there is no accurate information even about the prices and trim levels of 308 SW at all ... It remains to hope that the success of the Peugeot 308 in Europe - the demand for it is one and a half times more than 307 - will not affect the price level in Russia. While the prices for hatchbacks 308 looked quite attractive: in Russia, some configurations are even cheaper than in France. There, 308 SW in a similar configuration costs seven percent more than the hatchback 308. It is quite proportional to the increase in length.
