Opel Zafira is already familiar to you - at the end of last year (see No. 12'99) we compared this minivan with its competitors. And more recently, our correspondents had a chance to travel on the Ophevsky fat man with a two -liter diesel engine.
 
Zafira was created on the Astra Middle Class Model platform. Resolved in the characteristic of Opel - without much complaints. Although everything is with her: a modern silhouette, the quality of the interior decoration, equipping air conditioning and a good audio system.
 
The driver's seat of our minivan (execution of Elegance) has several adjustments - the height of the pillow, the back of the back and the longitudinal movement of the chair. The steering wheel - with the setting on the corner of the inclination and flying out; Left external mirror - with electric heating and remote control. In Germany, such a modification fits in 36120 marks.

A curious nuance regarding the safety of passengers: the headrests, which are equipped with all Zafira seats, when hitting the car behind the back of the head with the same force with which the person’s back presses the back of the seat. This prevents the injury of the cervical vertebrae. Another element of passive safety - side pillows - is hidden in the sidewalls of the backs of the front seats. The anterior review initially causes slight uncertainty, since the edge of the hood is not visible even to a tall person (a single crew!). However, it is worth starting maneuvering, as there is no trace of this feeling. The triangular windows in the space between the front door racks and the frame glass are reduced by the dead for viewing the zone. The windshield is huge, but even in the heat of Zafira does not turn into a greenhouse (if you do not leave the hatch curtain in the roof that is not pulled out) - the glass is made using special technology with the application of the thinnest silver coating, which reduces the pernicious effect of sunlight.
 
Each centimeter of free space in the back of Zafira carries a useful load. Pockets are arranged between the doors and the front seats, which can be placed, for example, a road atlas. The back of the middle row of seats is laid out in relation to 1: 3/2: 3. Only the central armrest can be thrown back to transport long items without disturbing passengers of the middle row. In the sidewalls near the rear racks, closed cavities for a first -aid kit and tool are provided. In the floor, between the bumper and the folding rear seats, the emergency stop and the grid are stored, with which the trunk is blocked to avoid moving the layers into the depths of the cabin during sharp braking.
 
The volume of the cargo compartment in Zafira in a five -seater version is 490 liters; It can be increased to 640 liters, moving forward the seat of the middle row. With two folded rows of seats for baggage, 1700 liters of volume can already be given. The length of the cargo site - up to 2.8 m - allows you to transport even refrigerators.
 
Usually Zafira (and she, as you probably understood, the seven -seater car) does not give out in anything a secret series of seats. To form it, it is necessary to move the second row chairs as much as possible, then pull the gender of the trunk up. For this, special handles are provided. The gender of the trunk is divided into four sections. Each of them is the back of the pillow or the back of one of the two seats of the third row. The seats rotate around the transverse axis and with an energetic movement are lowered to installation places.
 
The on -board computer in the car is by no means furniture. Annoyingly, for example, of the open doors, the need to check the work of stop-signals and dimensions. In motion, the flight attendant kindly reports the average fuel consumption.
 
Our minivan is a new modification with a two -liter Ecotec diesel engine with direct injection and 16 valves. If you believe the electronics, at a speed of 80 km/h Zafira with two adult passengers spends 4.4 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km.
 
This car seems to be created more for the city than for high -speed roads. When parking, an amorphous hydraulic wrap helps, but the steering wheel constantly has to adjust the steering wheel.
 
The car move is smooth, due to a considerable (2694 mm) base and a successfully selected suspension characteristic. Although, like most minivans, Zafira is sensitive to the influence of the lateral wind, it does not roll in corners, like other high -luminous cars.
 
Zafira freely goes 150 km/h, but she has her own limit of a comfortable ride. The optimal autobascular speed, when the noise of the wind, vibration and the sound of the motor do not annoy, in the zone 130-140 km/h. Having mastered the manners of the diesel engine (it requires energetic promotion before each gear shift) and a fairly far located support site under the left leg, you get real pleasure in leisurely driving mode. At the same time, it is almost not required to switch the gears - the diesel stretches at the fifth even at a speed of 30 km/h.
