We offered the owner of Chevrolet Captiva to compare it with Opel Antara. The goal is to find out what is similar and what are different two cars and understand, I would not want to change one to another now.
Opel Antara.
Driving
Not very impressed. The feeling is that they manage not by the machine, but toy. It's very simple.
Salon
Spacious, but not too comfortable. There are complaints about the materials and quality of noise insulation. For such money might be better.
Comfort
At an acceptable level, however, too wisdom to understand the central console can be derived from themselves.
Security
Basic equipment is quite extensive and quite consistent with the class of the machine.
Price
Acceptable.
Chevrolet Captiva.
Driving
The car is missing from the sky, but still will not give himself. Although if you choose now, I would take a 3.2-liter engine.
Salon
Spacious and comfortable, and a third row of seats and a gift at all. It seems to be no, but when you're always at hand.
Comfort
Uniquely weak noise insulation. It was she who demanded improvements in the first place.
Security
Systems of active and passive safety completely correspond to the class of the machine.
Price
Acceptable.
Right before the new year 2008, I had the owner of the new Chevrolet Captiva. When choosing a car there were several decisive criteria. The price should not exceed 950 thousand rubles. The car must have increased permeability compared to passenger transport. In addition, the car should have been available. As a result, at the moment I own 3.5 months and drove 9000 km.
Appearance
The design of the capita, in my opinion, is more classic, more European. In front of a powerful bumper, smoothly turning into the hood, the classic headlights of the head light and embedded into the bumper fog. Rear from the bumper is visible two exhaust pipes, which give a more aggressive view of the car, which are bumper and rounded lights. It turns out quite a pretty car that does not resemble his Korean roots.
In Antara, in front of the car gives a little different impression. There is no sensation of massiveness, the car seems easier. Bumper elements in combination with radiator grille and headlight tips create some American smile. Lowly located fog lights give auto a little aggressiveness. For the target use, fog lights are intended to be lucky, but more likely to smash them with a stone from a car. The rear bumper at Antara is completely different: it stands too much on the background of the entire car, which I personally did not really like it. The trunk lid is still highlighted with its narrowing to the bottom.
Conclusion: Captiva has a more classic design and suits people who prefer not very catchy vehicle appearance; Antara, like a certain unisex, is suitable for people who are more like original and causing cars than cars of classic smooth forms.
Look inside
The interior of the drove, as well as its appearance, the most corresponds to the definition of neutral. Smooth, clean surfaces, well-fitted panels, soft plastic, chairs with high fit. All devices read well and do not irritate the eyes. Captiva's creators did not originate all buttons and devices where they should be, and the control of the radio and cruise control on a very pleasant leather wheel is thought out so that the fingers themselves find the desired buttons. Everything is very accessible and intuitive!
Going to the rear row, you understand that there is even more space than in front! Three high growth people can comfortably sit in the back seat! If not even enough, there is a third row of seats in the trunk, which are in a folded condition are a smooth floor. For those who love to travel by car, fully laying the trunk, in Kapitia there is a significant plus opening separate glass trunk. It is very convenient to correct on the road and take things from a completely scored cargo branch. An important factor: the trunk of the drift is more than the Antara, and the loading in it is easier! At Antara, part of the openness of the trunk eat the rear door and plastic on the sides of the trunk.
However, there are some complaints. For example, to the shape of leather seats: the pillow is short, the side stops of the back are weak. The computer screen could be wider, if you remove the box on top (and so abuse in the car). It was possible not to do the muffle of the lighting of the radio when enabling the dimensions. Well, and make the steering wheel slightly less in diameter.
After hitting the Antara salon, you feel not a feeling of calm and equilibrium, as in Kaptiva, but a sense of driving and fussiness. Salon does not have a calm! What immediately rushes into the eye is orange backlight. In the dark, I think it annoys his eyes. In Kapiva she is green, and the green color soothes.
Now in order. What did not like it. The entire information display is at the top, and control to it below! Computer and magnetic control is intuitively incomprehensible, it takes time to figure out, for which one or another button, and still do not learn, have every time you press the view to the screen that changed? Door closing knobs are horizontally and very far uncomfortable to close the door and it is absolutely impossible to stay during a trip. A number of glass heating control buttons, etc. Located low, and the buttons themselves are very small. Climate control completed in the form of rotating handles resembles the car of the 90s.
In Kaptiva, all the information is immediately written on the display, and do not look down how much degrees and where I put the direction of air. I did not like the thin gear shift knob on the machine. The button that should be pressed on the handle is located very low, and simply do not get it if you put a hand on top. When you look at the fundamental support panel of the control, the question arises: how to put another receiver, or am I doomed to ride with regular?
All other controls are similar to the drip, except that the inclusion of light by Kapiti is located on the handle of the turn signal, and the antira on the torpedo on the left, and have to pull a little to turn on the light or fog. Sitting in the car with a fully open door, in Kaptiva you can reach the door of the opening-closing door, and there is no antara! Yes, and the handle itself in Antara is not thought out: it is uncomfortable on the road for it. What I liked: Softy plastic, better lateral support for the seats, drowning devices into small wells on the dashboard.
Go
As the cars are almost the same, and on Kaptiva there are already 9,000 km, and I already know what the car is capable, then, sowing to Antari, surprise or ambiguity, as the car behaves, I did not experience. Sound, or rather growl, both cars are equally. Overclocking is not for racing, but for a calm urban ride. I pleased in Antara a box with the possibility of manual gear shift. Sometimes you just want to spend something across to take your hand. There was a habit of mechanics to put the hand on the switching lever.
On the country road, both cars during arrival in the sand or puddle, as soon as the front wheels begin to scroll, the rear axle is connected. The operation of the electronic connection of the full drive works equally. It believed that noise isolation in Antara is better, but it was not confirmed: the engine and the noise of the wheels are confident!
The interior of the capita has a smooth and measured ride. In Antara, with its orange illumination and gray plastic, you feel not very comfortable.

My verdict
Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva are very similar to specifications and external data, if not to look after items. But if you pay attention to the little things, you can find a thousand differences in them and say that these are two different cars for absolutely different people. Chevrolet Captiva will be in demand from buyers who appreciate comfort and old, actually classic European interior. Opel Antara is definitely suitable for active people who want original solutions.
Expert opinion
Oleg Kalaushin, journalist 5 wheels
Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva rest on one platform and have approximately the same dynamic characteristics for similar engines. However, the Antara is more expensive than Captiva. So is it worth overpaying? Probably no, because, in fact, this overpayment goes exclusively for the brand. Although someone is more expensive. Yes, and on the secondary market to implement Opel, then it will be much easier than Chevrolet.
