Opel Antara test drive since 2010 crossover

There is no bad weather

Opel -Antara - the first -born of the company in the Parnish class - is now being collected in St. Petersburg. We select loved ones in price and similar in design of the peers (all, as for selection - with loud names) and with the question which is better? We go to the training ground. In search of answers, Mikhail Gzovsky lived with cars for several days. Photo: Alexander Batyr.

AUTUMN MARATHON
Darkness, slush, tantrums of the horn as luck would have it, the city stood up. It's time to assemble the car in different parts of the city and wag the will! But the optimist will find pluses in this situation: where, if not in traffic jams, you will evaluate landing and visibility, will you feel the dimensions?
Meet Opel Antara. He is Saturn-Vew, almost he is a chevrolet-captiva. Climbing to Antar, as if you are at home. I saw bright devices somewhere, the profile of a hard seat and a chubby steering wheel are also familiar. Like the feeling of notorious German quality. This applies to the ergonomics of the workplace and materials. The style is also memorable: for example, a handbrake in the form of a bracket - under the left hand of a passenger is similar, but it serves as a handrail. I liked the control of climate control. The distribution of flows is commanded by a pen with visual symbols. It’s a pity that the climate is not separate.
Perhaps there are only two shortcomings. Firstly, visibility: massive front racks are strained when traveling intersections. Secondly, the landing procedure: the forever dirty threshold certainly strucks on trousers.
And what about x-trail? At the exposition of Nissan in Geneva, he occupied one of the prominent places, but was not spoiled by the attention of the public. The reason is at first glance to distinguish a new X -trail from the previous one, especially to the one who drives on another car is not easy. But in the cabin you immediately feel how far progress has stepped. There was no trace of the simple front panel with the instruments located in the center. The dials are now in the usual place, the scales have become larger and more solid, a well of a route computer was adjusted between them with a bright red spot. Soft seats with a limp -thumbs - the exact opposite of Opel.
I go to Honda, press the button on the key fob. The darkness of the salon is frightened by the blue light of the hairs of the speedometer and a tachometer. I insert the key into the lock - the scales lit up brighter. I turn on the ignition - Scarlet arrows come to life along with the motor. Still, Honda knows how to let the light into the eyes!
There are many details that attract attention in the cabin. This is a catchy steering wheel, the lower knitting needle is trimmed with light plastic and a mesh insert, and the angular lever of the hand brake, and the automatic controller, which has settled between the seats. Convenient, not hard and not soft seat with good lateral support and a large range of adjustments, a grip steering wheel with tide in a position without ten two, the usual control of light is something wrong?
For example, a glove compartment of two departments: a traditional lower and additional breadbasket above it. But not any of them climbs a folder of A4 format. The attempt to charge the phone on the move was unsuccessful: in the dark I did not find a cigarette lighter nest. Having slowed down at the curb and bowing to the front panel, I saw the cherished source of power: it is located at the bottom of the console, you just won’t reach. In fairness - later I found another outlet, in the armrest. But I still do not envy smokers.
The climate in Honda is two -zone, but as easy as in Nissan and Opel, not to configure the streams: you will have to press the Mode button several times.
But the rear passengers in CR-V expands. Here is the most space for the legs, and the cabin is the widest. Opel is also ready to take three from behind, only the knees will have to be squeezed a little. Well, Nissan unexpectedly turned out to be the closest: and some kind of narrow pillow, and the ceiling presses, and the tunnel interferes.
But the X -trail is immediately recouped in another discipline - he is an unconditional leader in terms of luggage compartment. The form is correct, a convenient underput is provided. Pantry Opel - in outsiders: 112l fits there less than in Nissan!
And the suitcase will have to be raised to a record height. Honda is inferior to the X-trail, but filling the CR-V trigger is most convenient-the loading height is less. If you raise the fifth door in raw weather, do not rush. Give the water to drain through the drainage holes, otherwise you will receive a real Sharko shower. Nothing can be done, autumn
Last year's snow fell
The next day, the middle strip of Russia fell asleep. It seemed that all that snow that had been waiting for a long time last winter, nature saved for this morning. It's time to check all -wheel drive in the case!
The least powerful in our company is Opel Antara. But you do not feel infringed in dynamics at the wheel. The situation is saved by a well -tuned machine. It smoothly and without noticeable delays sorting out five gears, makes it possible to switch manually, and for winter it offers an additional mode. I turn it on: Opel is confidently touching on snow porridge, the tachometer arrow barely ranges around 2000 rpm. At the first moment, it even seemed that Antara was equipped with a variator!
But Nissan is really variator. And at the same time in stock of 29 hp. More than in Opel, which is also heavier than rivals by almost 200 kg. It is not surprising that Nissan starts much more vigorous. But there is no solo of the engine that has been released at 5,000, it can be endured, but at the first opportunity you want to release the gas pedal. The X-trail engine does not have the most pleasant timbre, moreover, much noisier than rivals. The transmission is arranged so that it does not annoy the shocks during switching, and the slightly inhibited operation of the throttle contributes to a smooth start.
One hundred and fifty Honda forces do not cause a storm of emotions. But its 2-liter unit is practically not heard even on the 6400 rpm close to the maximum, and 3,000 revolutions are perceived from the cabin almost like idle. You will figure it out quickly with the box, since the driver is only entrusted to choose between provisions 1, 2 or Overdrive. There is no manual mode - and this is the only claim to the Honda transmission. Going down the frozen village track, Opel recalled: how convenient it was to click a lever and choose the gear in which the machine effectively slows down the engine. The philosophy of the CR-V box does not imply a lever. In Drive mode, Honda strove to switch to increased, forcing to constantly keep the leg on the brake.
The controllability of Antara and CR-V are similar. Opel is slightly tougher, and the feedback on the steering wheel is slightly smaller. But when it comes to high -speed driving, Antara demonstrates great tenure. CR-V does not roll in the turns, but quite early begins to slide out the outbred. But on high -speed straight lines, the car is absolutely reliable, a tight steering wheel responds to a turn with an understandable effort.
Nissan is not within the power to keep up on a serpentine for competitors. The car, it would seem, willingly reacts to the deviation of the steering wheel. But it does not want to return to the trajectory, for example, after a detour. Hence the feeling of uncertainty that makes you lose the pace. Pours oils into the fire and vertical buildup, which increases in proportion to speed.
This does not mean in any case that Nissan is bad. It’s just that, unlike competitors, they decided not to sacrifice the cross-country ability for the sake of handling. It's like the weather: it does not happen bad, popular wisdom says. The main thing is to choose clothes for the season and in accordance with the plans for the coming day. Nissan equipped the X-trail as if specifically for Russia, with its endless winter and blurry autumn cramp by primers. Well, Honda and Opel are cooler and prefer the city pastime to tour times.
Tsar Mountain
All the main drive tested is front, and the rear wheels help if necessary. At Honda and Opel, they are connected through a multi -disc couple automatically; Forced locks in transmission are not provided.
The driver of Nissan has the opportunity to choose between the front -wheel drive or automatic regime (in the latter case, the electronics itself transfer the moment to the desired axis, like competitors). But most importantly, in the X-trail you can turn on the interdose blocking by selecting Lock position. And the system for descent from the mountain allows you to drop the pedals and trust the electronics. True, it acts imperfectly - it allows you to develop too much speed, as a result, the X -trail sometimes begins to slide sideways, which is unpleasant. A similar thing on Opel works much better.
Nevertheless, Nissan’s championship is natural in off -road disciplines. The rear wheels of Antara and CR-V are connected only after slipping of the front, so seducing is much easier. In addition, the road clearance and the passages of suspensions of these cars are much more modest.
Mikhail Gzovsky: The main thing is to decide why you are buying an all -wheel drive car. For urban driving and rare sorties out of town, Honda-Cr-V and Opel-Antara are good. And if you plan to often move off the asphalt - Nissan out of competition.
Opel Antara is a successful attempt to combine a car for an active driver with a vehicle for passengers. But the little trunk puts the cross on long journeys.
General rating: 8.3
+ Thought -out ergonomics, balanced sledged capabilities, multifaceted machine, spacious front of the cabin, high smoothness.
- A modest trunk with great loading height, the worst overview against the backdrop of competitors due to wide front racks.
Nissan X -Trail - Contrary to fashion, the new generation was no longer parquet than the previous one. A car with American chassis sets does not like active steering.
General rating: 8.4
+ A huge multifunctional trunk, excellent dynamics, good cross -country ability.
- Close back seat, modest against the backdrop of competitors acoustic comfort and smoothness.
Honda CR -V - in the third generation, the car became completely different: already small possibilities in cross -country ability have become even more modest, but comfort and handling have significantly improved.
General rating: 8.5
+ Excellent sound insulation of the engine, fast car, high smoothness, spacious rear seat, convenient multifunctional trunk.
- mediocre patency, lack of manual automatic mode.
