Test drive Nissan Skyline Sedan since 2006 sedan

Better than Infiniti. Nissan Skyline Crossover test drive report

Nissan Motor Co. The legendary Nissan Skyline family was replenished with a new, large model. What will this car be shown to us, which is called a crossbar of the coupe and SUV?
Preating, Japan!
Nissan emphasizes that it was in the merger of the Dam and SUV feature that his new brainchild Skyline Crossover was born. It is not without reason that the letter S in the word SUV means Sport. The appearance of Skyline Crossover can be considered like this: Skyline sedan turned into a five -door hatchback, increased dimensions, shortened to 50 mm wheelbase, added cross -country ability and maneuverability and received a crossover with very high operational characteristics.
Japanese Nissan Skyline Crossover is the same car that is sold in America under the Infiniti Ex35 brand. I must say that the FX crossover is much more popular in the States, however, Ex, which is more modest in dimensions, also has its fans among family gentlemen. Well, for a stunted Japan, this model should come completely right.
Skyline Crossover's height (along with the rails) is impressive 160 centimeters. But in the width and length, the car is unexpectedly compact: 180 and 463 cm, respectively. The most attractive external feature of the new car is a smooth bevel of the roof of the body, which is harmoniously complemented by a shortened overhang. This feature gives the body external lightness, usually inherent in hatchbacks. At the same time, a long nose looks almost classic, which generally creates an interesting combination.
Fast and comfortable Japanese version
From the American Infiniti Ex C 3.5-liter engine, the Skyline Crossover distinguishes a 3.7-liter engine capable of developing a power of up to 330 horsepower on high-octane gasoline to 36.8 kg-m. Instead of a five -speed automatic gearbox, it is equipped with a seven -speed, promising more smooth control of the engine capabilities. The test drive was limited by the boundaries of the city, you won’t be particularly unfolding, but even at quiet turns, the car demonstrated the flight of amazingly frisky and light.
In principle, it is not surprising that the American version uses a transmission with a higher transfer number. The sensation of a jerk when switching the transmission meets the template temperament of an American. Therefore, 7AKPP on Skyline Crossover is also a tribute to the stereotype of the character of the Japanese.
Moreover, everything indicates the attention of Nissan to the problems of ecology. The fashionable electronic control module for the opening of the throttle decline deceptively affects the sound of the engine. When the revolutions are simply aligned, it seems that the braking of the engine turned on or the box has switched to increased gear. The soft operation of the electronics creates the effect of a dull that seems to be lost by the speed of the reaction of the transmission. However, I note that at the same time, the gid -converter of the gearbox behaves adequately, there is no feeling that the programs are delayed with the inclusion.
Like EX35, Crossover is noticeable by almost impeccable running qualities. Like any heavyweight, on the road he holds confidently, the position of the body in motion changes very little. Even on a highly tuberous coating, the car sways slightly, and small irregularities are successfully absorbed by huge wheels. On all -season rubber, the contact with the road is very soft, which allows you to ride with relative comfort even along a broken road. On dry and even asphalt, the clutch of tires with the road, although it did not surpass my expectations, but left a pleasant impression: the car is heavy, and suddenly losing the clutch in such conditions is almost impossible. And the connected four -wheel drive gives the car even greater stability on the road.
By the way, about all -wheel drive. The same system is used here that on the Nissan GT-R: in a normal situation, the car goes on the rear drive, and in poor adhesion conditions, at the time of slipping of the rear wheels, the electromagnetic coupling automatically connects the front bridge.
Suddenly a frisky crossover
On the road Skyline Crossover is obedient, in management, stable. And although at a visual examination it seems that the center of gravity of the car is highly located, in fact, in terms of controllability, the car differs little from the usual sedan. Of course, the agility of the car depends on the weight load: when the weight changes, the clutch of the tires with the road changes. Crossover is equipped with an advanced steering amplifier (the most modern Nissan development), which will not allow the car to become a hostage to changing circumstances. In addition, thanks to the design of the body with a shortened rear overhang, the inertia of the body has practically no chance to get out of control. It is amazing how naturally such a voluminous car passes a series of steep turns. However, the brake capabilities of Skyline Crossover, unfortunately, do not reach what this frisky and powerful car deserves.
The sore spot of EX35 was not a completely convenient rear sofa, and when creating the Skyline Crossover, the developers were concerned about this shortage. The problem moment was as follows: when installing the front seats in the very posterior position, the rear passengers became so closely that their knees rested on the backs of the front seats. No wonder in EX35 the front seats were priority, since it is believed that the Americans mainly use the rear seats of the car to store jackets and transport dogs. For the Japanese, the extreme back position of the front seats was shifted to the front in favor of the rear passengers. By the way, the rear sofa is extremely conveniently folded by pressing one button located in the trunk.
On the international SUV market, accustomed to squat, clumsy machines, more and more stylish, pretty representatives of this class appear: take, for example, Volvo XC60 or BMW X6. I think Nissan Skyline Crossover, as no one else, fits into this trend. However, the planned volume of sales is still small: only 200 copies per month.
