In the 2003 Skyline lineup, a compartment option again appeared. If you try to see the list of Japanese cars produced at this time, then there are only two means of transportation in the form of a compartment: Celica and Soarer. If you take Soarer for a model with an open body, then Celica will be the only two -door compartment. Thus, in the list of Japanese cars, where such a giant number of models is collected that it is impossible to remember everything, only one model is a compartment. Based on the ideas that are generally accepted in the world, such a situation could be called abnormal. Of course, you can understand the logic of manufacturers who say: why offer, if there is no demand, so we do not produce them. However, there should still be some reason why the compartment almost completely disappeared, which used to be many, like stars in the sky.
Before developing the Skyline-Coupe theme, let me acquaint a little with my compartment theory. There are many reasons for the almost complete disappearance of the Japanese production coupe. One of the main reasons, apparently, is that consumers are now more focused on cars for family vacations. However, I think that the main reason is the insufficient awareness of the manufacturers of what the coupe is. In essence, the compartment is a pretty and luxurious machine. That is why such inconvenience as the presence of only two doors and the tightness of the rear seat are allowed. Paradoxically, but there is no more unattractive machine than unsympathetic and cheap in appearance of the compartment. However, in the 90s, Japanese manufacturers saw that the two-door coupe in fashion, and began to randomly shoot cars, as if specially made in the form of an illustration for the above bad example. Truly, they began to saw the bitches on which they were sitting. As a result of this, the popularity of the coupe has fallen sharply and reached the current situation.
But Skyline-Coupe, who challenged this sedentary market, everyone really liked it. Mercedes, BMW and other serious foreign manufacturers, almost without exception, have a compartment. All of them are pretty and luxurious models, and Skyline-Coupe is aimed there. It should be noted that this compartment is not for youths, but for adults who are held, and this also consists of their similarity. This is also indicated by the fact that there are simply no cheap modifications-all modifications were equipped with a V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 3.5 liters. The price is 2 250-560 thousand yen, which exceeds the price of Fairlady Z (from 3 million yen).

Exterior and interior
In appearance, Skyline-Coupe is pretty without any objections. Its dimensions are length 4640 mm, width 1815 mm, height 1395 mm, which is 35 mm shorter, 65 mm wider and 75 mm below the sedan. Including, an increase in the width has a significant effect on the appearance. The expanded part of 65 mm was fully used to thicken the wings, as a result of which it was possible to demonstrate the power, sexuality and a feeling of luxury, which the sedan almost could not compare. If it were a sedan or hatchback, then this would lead to a negative assessment (the body was increased for fun), but we have just a two -door compartment. You can welcome in every possible way the fact that the appearance has improved due to the giving bold measurements. In fact, in the guise of Skyline-Coupe, a feeling of luxury is clearly visible.
Minus 75 mm height is also a lot. The combination of large diameter tires, firmly standing in the corners of the body, with a low compact cab causes an association with strong personality and good mobility. Of course, if you sit in the back seat, you can clearly feel that the low roof and the very mowed rear window have a poor effect on convenience. The legs space are not too cramped, but the seat is thin, and even if I will sit down with a height of 167 cm, straightening my back, then my head will break into the rear window. Only a short woman or child can be conveniently located here. In the trunk, a small opening part, it has a small capacity, so it cannot be said that in everyday life it can be used as you like.
However, we can again and again say that the main thing for the compartment is the appearance. If you go to such a compartment where the appearance is sacrificed to practicality, then I will not hesitate to choose a sedan. Do not chase half the practicality, but specialize in the original attractiveness of the compartment precisely this is the main charm of Skyline-Coupe. By the way, at first glance, this compartment has a common look with a sedan, but neither in the door handles, nor in the outer mirrors, nor in the external skin there is not a single common detail. For fans of Skyline, a joyful moment was that in the rear r-shaped headlights there are round bulbs.
On the other hand, some poverty was felt in the interior. The corresponding measures were nevertheless taken, for example, the Panel of the Central Contain was processed by the titanium, and a special door finish was carried out. But in response to the question of whether this is balanced with the appearance made in the highest class, we can say no. Frankly speaking, the feeling of luxury is not enough. Improving the interior Skyline remains an important task, including for the sedan.
However, in the appearance of the sedan, a significant feature was the disappearance of the quadrangular cuts in the tail, which previously caused discontent. Along with this, the size of the Skyline logo increased.
Performance
If we conclude, then the performance of Skyline-Coupe makes us recall the model Z. Before making a detailed report, we will touch the sensations from driving on the sedan. The main point of improving the sedan is the chassis. Immediately after starting on sale, he ran along the roads of the world and included all the results. Indeed, during the ride, the impression of greater stability is intensified than before. In particular, the stability of the rear axle during turning clearly increased.
In the previous sedan, when reversing moves, there was a tendency to premature braking of the rear. However, in the improved modification, the back is firmly, so you can go around the angle more calmly. From the point of view of stability, it is still impossible to say that everything is done to the end. For example, if you turn a weak brake when turning, then the back suddenly loses stability.
So, the long-awaited Skyline-Coupe is brought to the level of a rather high-quality driving machine. First of all, immediately after the start of movement, you can feel the hardness of the body. The internal design of the body is closer to the Z model than to the sedan. However, if you compare with the Z model, which has a huge door from behind, then the compartment has a much smaller part. As the speed increases, you begin to understand that the body strength is an extremely important element, and a reduced opening part plays a large role in increasing this strength.
This effect can be most clearly felt when turning. The suspension works neatly due to the strength of the tilling body. Model Z is also not bad at all, but there is a feeling that it turns due to a good coating tire adhesion. In this sense, Skyline-Coupe creates the impression that the suspension is more skillfully controlled by wheels. Therefore, even if you turn off the electronic control of the wheels and try to let the car into the skins, then unexpected actions will not follow, and you can completely continue to move without cold from fear. Of course, if you can force the power of a V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 3.5 liters, then the car can easily be brought. However, even in such a situation, it is more controlled than the Z model. In this case, in addition to the increased strength of the body and the perfect suspension design, the wheeled base has a significant effect, which is 200 mm longer than the Z.
In terms of comfort, it is softer than the Z, but tougher sedan. With the passage of stronger irregularities, sometimes strikes are transmitted to sharp objects. I would like comfort to relax a little more, as is characteristic of the compartment, and not in sports cars. However, compared with the Z model, which is very shaking at the joints of high -speed roads, high comfort is obvious. If we talk about the possibilities of driving, they cannot be called too luxurious, but if there was an opportunity to restrain sharp blows, then the feeling of driving could improve even more.
Another point in which I would like to expect improvements is the engine. Power and torque are quite enough, but there is still where to improve the characteristics in the field of comfort - such as rustling and light engine vibration, gear shifting in manual transmission. In the current situation, the model with an automatic transmission is more pleasant, where these weaknesses are not too noticeable.
I called several unsatisfactory moments, but Skyline-Coupe has a strong attractiveness that fully replenishes them. I would like to expect that under the influence of this, other Japanese manufacturers will also have luxurious and pretty coupes for adults.
