I understand the guys from Mitsubishi: they presented a new ASX crossover, and journalists only did what they were asked about Nissan Qashqai: Will ASX cheaper cheaper? Does his sales comes with Nissanovsky? What is it better? By the way, really how?

The class of compact crossovers, created by Casca (HR-V, do not take into account) three years ago, in Mitsubishi frankly blocked. Therefore, ASX (in the Japanese market it is called RVR, and on the American and some other Outlander Sport) is doomed to be catching up. And considering that Qashqai has already survived restyling-improving, catch up with a rapid pace. So, what in ASX special?


The wheel base ASX is exactly the same as an outlander: a decrease in dimensions occurred at the expense of soles, predominantly rear.

At first glance, nothing. The car is built on the Mitsubishi Outlander XL crossover platform, in the arsenal there are gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 liters and the newest diesel 1.8. Full drive (one in one, like on outlander) or front. Gearbox 5-speed mechanics or stepless variator. Well, a copy of the outlander! Scale.

However, there are nuances. For example, everyone is aware of the clever pieces. In Mitsubishi, apparently, they decided that the ASX should be spacious. It turned out that it was partly: thanks to the wheelbase of 2670 mm (exactly as much as the donor, the Outlander XL crossover) rear passengers do not complain about the tightness in the fields. Moreover, the front seats are made so that at least the watermelon can be ridiculed and the problems will not be straightened to straighten the legs. But the sloping roof (especially if it is a glass panoramic), made of design for the sake of, leaves the minimum stock for the head. In addition, the backs of the rear seats are not regulated by the slope: all passengers ASX offers to sit vertically.

The trunk is not bad he is larger than other representatives of the golf class, and is clearly less than, say, Tiguana. The versions for the Russian market will be equipped with a full-sized festival, and, accordingly, the floor of the trunk will be slightly higher for themselves, by the way, in our specification, the volume of the 715 liters holder, and not 442, like Europeans. Although, in any case, the loading height will not call a giant.

What makes it very pleased with the Mitsubishi saved ASX from their branded shortcomings. As options, a panoramic roof is available, a system of adcible access to the salon, xenon headlights, a navigation system, as well as a start-stop system and a hitch assistant.

And how rides? At the high-speed Mitsubishi polygon on the island of Hokkaido (they were not released on the road to generally) we were offered two tracks: a high-speed oval and a mountain road.

The chart of suspension compared to the outlander, Japanese engineers did not touch: levers, transverse stability stabilizers and even the springs here are the same in fact, the shock absorbers' settings. But how! If Outlander XL car is rigid, then ASX on the contrary, soft, smooth and even roll. Maybe it was also done in a peak unnecessar than shaking kashka?

The electromagnetic coupling device in the rear wheel drive is absolutely identical to the Outlander XL crossover. There are three modes of operation 2WD, 4WD and LOCK. In the first crossover, in almost all modes of movement, it remains an advanced drive, connecting the rear axle only in case of extreme need. 4WD mode when the coupling is already working actively, constantly playing the distribution of torque between the axes. And finally, Lock is no blocking, as it may seem, but simply the mode of early and quickly triggering the coupling, which is called for each occasion

Motors (on the test there were only cars with gasoline units 1.6 (117 hp) and 2.0 (150 hp)) tracked, torque curve (154 and 197 nm, respectively) they have more than a school line.

For the city, a version with a motor volume of 1.6 liters, mechanics and front-wheel drive, of course, is not too lazy to switch transmission and squeeze the clutch. After all, the dynamics of it provides almost at the level of the two-liter version with a full drive and the variator is a cut-free mass, then less. Yes, it is noiser, but in urban mode it is not fundamentally. But the heavy two-liter machine is stable at speed.


The trunk is not bad by the standards of subcompact crossovers. But in the top configuration, part of it eats the subwoofer of the Rockford Fosgate audio system

Come on the mountain road. Here are large height differences and very high-speed turns with a double profile. Oddly enough, but the Vile ASX was quite good! Rolls, of course, get frightened and Freddie Kruger himself, but the car, nevertheless, is clearly on the arc!

But the electromagnetic clutch in the rear wheel drive remained without testing: there are no off-road trails on the Japanese polygon. Nothing, let's wait in Russia this good, we will find as much as you like.

After a brief test drive, Japanese engineers armed with notebooks and handles approached journalists. We began to ask what, in our opinion, in a good car, and that bad. The worst thing that ASX appeared for three years later, Kashka answered one of his colleagues. The rest supported.


In Japan, ASX is already sold under the name RVR. For the first two months in the country of the rising sun, 5 thousand cars were sold a good result!

But the ASX has a lot of advantages. For example, comfort (namely, the majority of buyers will appreciate it) and, according to intelligence information, curious price: at least, the exact figures on the price tags of the guys from Mitsubishi are held secretly, they promise that those will be lower than that of Kashka.

In what form will bring ASX to Russia (and this will happen in June-July), too, until the end is not clear. But it is already known that the basic engine 1.6 will be offered only with front-wheel drive and mechanics, and a two-liter exclusively with four leading and variator. Most options, including the navigation system, the Russians will be available.
