The Mitsubishi Final line of models looks quite modest, but the choice of SUVs among the Japanese has always been very extensive. If you want a real serious rogue, please drive Pajero. The budget does not allow you to feel free to take Pajero Sport. We need a worker of the L200 pickup, excellent choice. And from the SUVs in the eyes of the ripples: Pajero Pinin, Pajero Io, Outlander, in Japan there is even a baby Pajero Mini with a 660 cubic motor. And recently, the line was replenished with another new Outlander XL model, built on a completely new chassis. Justifying its name, an SUV can be offered with a 7-seater salon (in Russia this option is for some reason inaccessible), and without it has a huge trunk. Yes, and Outlander’s motor is also a XL 3.0-liter 220-horsepower, aggregated by a new 6-speed automatic. But the price, of course, is not the most modest tested SUV costs 44,990 cu. (at the rate of 26.80 rubles per 1 cu), or, in terms of more familiar dollars, 46,770.
Outlander design has nothing to do with other Mitsubishi models. The Japanese developed it on his own, without the help of the European Olivier Bula, who created Lancer, Colt, Grandis and Outlander of the first generation. In the current model, one can find a similarity only with sports prototypes that are countless the number of times won Dakar. Stylish headlights with a bumper and a powerful aluminum lower lip are borrowed from them. Outlander is clearly resembles Lexus RX, but only in a more technocratic performance with neon stop-signals. Actually, the entire XL style can be designated as techno or hi-tech. Those who like the corresponding direction in clothes or interior decoration will probably be like a new Outlander.
The folk proverb says that they are met by clothes, and escorted by the mind. If you shift it to the perception of the interior of the machine, then you meet it by design, and you see over ergonomics and the quality of the finish. So, I met Outlander very cordially: a spectacular instrument panel with wells and a multifunctional display, similar to the Mercedes ML panel, beautiful designer strokes on the doors and on the glove lid, a luxurious Rockford Acoustic audio system with a trunk of climate control. But after 15 minutes of acquaintance, the perception of the SUV has seriously changed. All plastic is absolutely hard, even small-sized like Opel Corsa, not to mention golf class models, get off much better. Moreover, it is difficult to justify the hard plastic considerations of ease of cleaning is quite difficult in its corrugated structure dirt and dust is perfectly eaten. As it turned out, the steering wheel only has an adjustment in height of the steering wheel and does not advance by a millimeter, and its location is far from the ideal. Although the bagel itself is very good in hands, despite the small size, and the abundance of buttons does not interfere even with rapid rotation. Around the driver and the front passenger, as many as 6 cup holders are located in Outlander, there is also a toilet, otherwise what to do with so many fluids on board.
However, in the pursuit of searching for places for the cup holders, the engineers seemed to forget about another important option, heating the seats, and at the last moment they stuck the inclusion keys anywhere, or rather to the main heated place. If I had not been sure that heating the seats was in the list of options, I would never have found these small buttons hidden between the seat and the central tunnel. It’s good that they are highlighted in the dark. Turning off heating on the go is completely dangerous, because it requires close attention and look away from the road.
And instead of a heart, a fiery motor is about Outlander XL. The latest 3.0-liter V6 engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic, is very good. The engine without unnecessary heavyweight and Lenza, which is characteristic of large engines, is spinning to the maximum 6500 thousand revolutions and very famously disperses the SUV to 210 km/h along the speedometer, although the declared maximal rate of Outlander 200 km/h. However, on high xL speeds behave very ambiguously. On smooth asphalt, no problems, a high body practically does not respond to impulses of the side wind, and the steering wheel is poured with a pleasant weight of reactive effort. But it is worth on the asphalt to appear at least the minimum waves, which abound in secondary paths even with a fresh coating, there is no trace of the integrity of the machine. Already at 160 km/h, it becomes quite difficult to control the rolled SUV. The steering wheel is still heavy, but the soft long-flowing suspension allows the body to build up, and Outlander leaves the given path. You have to hold the steering wheel with both hands and even steaming, which is a serious drawback for a modern car, especially given the serious potential of the motor.
By sound support for solo parties, a mighty motor and a chopped body are fighting, which begins to whistle at 120 km/h. As the warring forces accelerated, the motor is growing: a whistle wins on the fast and a whistle. As a result, after 150 km/h, I no longer want to talk in the salon, and the music begins to put pressure on the ears.
Outlander feels more confident in the city. The suspension comfortably exceeds the bedridden police officers of any size, even if they do not pay attention to them at all and not reduce speed. The energy intensity of the suspension and a solid clearance allow you to safely jump into the curbs and at the same time feel very comfortable. XL even tries to seem a sports car: for this he has not only a powerful motor, but also a heavy steering wheel. That's just the suspension, on the contrary, is configured for comfort. As a result, the fast ride is only in a straight line, and in the turns of Outlander he is heavily heated and slides out the turn of the turn with front wheels. But the soft suspension almost completely eliminates the possibility of introduction, it is achieved only with a very serious provocation, for example, with a handbrake. It is impossible to accidentally cause a skid that for a car with such a soft suspension it is quite natural, in addition, the security stabilization system of the M-ASTC course stabilizes is on guard. That's just you need to be more accurate with the ruts: on the overclocking, the SUV digesting them still tolerably, but it will happen sharply to slow down and you have to keep the steering wheel with tripled force.
I practically did not have to use spectacular steering wheel petals, except that out of curiosity, the 6-speed machine operates very logically. Of course, in Kick Down mode, the transition from the 6th the transfer to the third does not happen as quickly as the box would like to cross the steps sequentially, as if trying on which one is better. But all switching occur quite smoothly, which, perhaps, is more important if your goal is not the use of Outlander as a sports car. Although a sports algorithm of work would not have prevented the automatic to reach the ideal, when the last gear is not involved and the box reacts more sharply and faster to moving the gas pedal. By the way, Outlander is almost the only car where the petals are made of real aluminum and on the road it is pleasant to just stroke, feeling a metal chill.
It was not without the test test, and we did not specifically look for dirt. On the way to one beautiful meadow, where in the summer you can drive in any passenger car except Ferrari, melted snow formed a firefall. Before my eyes, drivers refused to storm her at Volkswagen Touareg and Land Rover Discovery III. After a demonstrative turn of the kings of the off -road, it was scary to meddle in a puddle on the SUV, but, making sure that the cars are not going to leave yet and they have a strong cable, we and Outlander we decided on the experiment. I connect all -wheel drive, block the central differential and turn off the anti -wings system ... short acceleration and, slightly losing with summer asphalt tires, the SUV instantly crossed me to the other side. I succumbed to a feeling of permissiveness, on the way back I went to the assault on the same obstacle more negligently, for which I paid. I forgot to turn off the electronic collar, and Outlander got stuck on the outburst of the puddle the anti -boom system did not give the wheels freely to row: the SUV stopped, barely hooking the front bumper for the ledge of soft soil. I realized a perfect mistake when the car only flew into a puddle. The hand quickly felt for the electronics disconnection key, but for its deactivation, for some reason, the button should be held for at least 3 seconds, as the instruction writes. In my case, this turned out to be enough for the car to lose the inertia of acceleration and stop.
When the wheels were finally able to rotate freely, Outlander was completely immobilized had to get out of the car and knock down the track so that it did not exceed the 215-clirence of the SUV. As a result, after 15 minutes we were free again, but the incident with the anti -testing was remembered for a long time.
Then I had to face another serious obstacle. A rather deep ditch needed to pass only diagonally, otherwise you will tear off, at least, bumpers, or even the exhaust system. Geometric cross -country ability was not in doubt, it was only scary that Outlander would not have enough free stroke of the suspension and the wheels would be in the air. And so it happened: XL raised the rear wheel, and at the same time unloaded one front. In such a situation, most SUVs, even with the blocking of the central differential, stop, and Mitsubishi, surprisingly, did not save.
Finally, near the editorial office, we decided to arrange paired races between Mitsubishi and a 3.0-liter BMW X5. In terms of power between the cars, there was a complete parity: 220 horses at Outlander and 218 - at Bavarz, both cars with a 6 -speed automatic. Contrary to forecasts, the Japanese was faster, and the races repeated three times with different drivers while driving. Losing a little at the start due to a short slipping of the front wheels (even with a forcedly blocked central differential) and a slower machine gun, already at a speed of 100 km/h Outlander, he confidently escaped into the body forward, and further dispersal even more asserted the leadership of Mitsubishi. Therefore, if you are guided by considerations of the power and acceleration dynamics, then Outlander is a very successful choice of a powerful motor in a spacious body at a relatively moderate price. In addition, the powerful RockFord audio system is also suitable for street racing.
If, among the priorities, there are requirements for controllability and comfort in the cabin, then it is better to find some other option, for example, to wait for the appearance of the Peugeot 4007 SUV, which is based on the Outlander chassis. Surely the French will bring the Japanese suspension to mind, and at the same time improve the quality of interior decoration.
As for the comparison with the used BMW X5, the Bavaret, despite the loss in the dynamics of acceleration, clearly conquers the quality of the interior decoration and the excellent handling congenital for all BMW cars.
