But still sorry ...

The subject of desire

For some reason, this episode forced to recall the statement of one wonderful writer at the heart of this form specifically so that the arrow pierces it. The remaining effects are side effects. Mercedes SLK is created in order to be the subject of desire. The Rodster, who also goes well, he has already become along the way ... Well, but seriously, the appearance of the car is really capable of sprinkling. He is fresh, rapid, elegant. It looks like a super prestigious (and super road) SLR, but something in it suggests that this beast is manual.

Unlike true sportsmen, SLK does not require special skills from the driver, and in general, it belongs to people benevolently. To climb on one of the two seats, it is not required to do an acrobatic sketch of a light landing, regardless of whether the roof is installed or not. The seat is well -filed and resembles racing buckets, but much softer. As it should be in Mercedes, it is regulated using electric motor, and in wide ranges. So I, for example, are used to lowering the seat as much as possible in any car. But, having done this in SLK, it turned out to be so close to the ground that only the crown was visible from behind the door. That is, even with the top raised, the car is able to accept the basketball player. The steering column is also equipped with an electric drive and moved in two planes.

On the instrument shield is two wells (tribute to the last fashion) with the dials of a tachometer and speedometer, inclined in different directions, a rather original composition turned out. The clock, the fuel level indicator, the small screen of the on -board computer is everything in place, the information is well read. By pressing the appropriate keys on the steering wheel, you can learn a lot of interesting fuel consumption, average speed, the number of kilometers before refueling, travel time, motor temperature, etc. For example, I liked that the display can be turned into a digital speedometer. Using the buttons on the steering wheel, you can also control the phone if the SIM card is installed, and the audio center with the CD player and the CHEINGER for 6 disks in the glove compartment. True, this chainer ate a lot of useful space in the box, leaving only a small recess for papers.

In general, SLK is already due to its purpose is not too adapted for the carriage of baggage. Nevertheless, in the version of the compartment, he offers as many as 300 liters for the luggage in the trunk, and in the version of the convertible 208, there are also many. Plus, inside the passenger compartment there are small niches in the doors and two containers in a massive central tunnel, separating the driver and passenger. True, a small case in the cabin can no longer be placed.

It would be unfair to at least not mention the quality of the audio system three -component speakers in the front doors fill the salon with quite lively music. Moreover, heavy rock, technology, and classics sound equally good. One but: with a roof raised, the metropolitan cacophony nulls all the efforts of engineers.

The algorithm for the climatic installation seemed somewhat unusual for me. I almost studied all the buttons with icons under a microscope, but I never found Auto mode. And despite the fact that the driver and passenger can order an individual microclimate. But on the central console, in addition to the buttons of heating of the seats, the central lock and the alarm, two more keys were placed, the purpose of which I did not immediately determine. Judging by the drawing, they should be somehow connected with the headrests. Empirically, however, I soon found out that these keys allow you to go with an open top in cool weather, that is, they keep my head in warmth. He pressed the necessary, and a very useful system, especially in our latitudes, began to flow from the headrest. And it is called Airscarf an air scarf, that is.

Yes, I almost forgot: you can raise or lower the roof in 22 seconds. To do this, just press the button on the central tunnel.

In movement mode

Everything described above, as the reader guessed, travels, and very well. Although the test got the weakest (but the most affordable) version of the new SLK with a 4-cylinder engine of 2.0 liters. This power unit is equipped with a compressor and produces 163 forces and 240 nm of torque. It is standardly aggregated with a new 6-speed manual gearbox, but in this case we will talk about a 5-speed machine.

AKP has several operating modes, which can be selected by pressing a button near the selector handle. In addition to the standard algorithm, in which, however, the box adjusts to the driving style, there are two more. Sports mode, when electronics allows you to twist the motor to limit revolutions. And the manual gear shift mode will have to pump the hilt to the right to the right. You can move from one step to another, pressing special keys on the back of the steering wheel. To use them, in my opinion, is not very convenient to say that one part of any of the keys is responsible for the transition to an increased, and the other part of the same key to a reduced gear. So I am inclined to consider this matter by pampering. However, I do not insist, a matter of habit and taste.

In general, the SLK machine does not steal the dynamic potential in the car. So, for a set of 100 km/h, he needs only 8.3 seconds, which is only 0.4 s. inferior to versions with mechanics. And such a thing as the convenience of automatic transmission during urban ride is not worth talking about. I must also notice that SLK is in order not only with a frisky start, but also with accelerations almost at any speed. Here we must pay tribute to the compressor, which guarantees a pickup in a wide range of revolutions.

But the steering wheel was somewhat disappointed. At first, the steering wheel seemed to me quite tight everything correctly, it should be in a car with a sports character. But then I began to understand that the ideal settings are still far away. Yes, with a feedback, full order and in a stressful virave clearly feel what is happening under the front wheels, which, by the way, are a little already rear (225/45 R17 versus 245/40 R17). But, firstly, the steering does not have enough acuity. The number of roller stories from the edge to the edge, according to my personal measurements, is equal to three, which is much for such a car. The almost complete absence of reactive effort is even more unpleasant. In other words, when you pass the arc, you turn the steering wheel, and it is in no hurry to come back. You have to constantly help him with his hands, which with fast driving guarantees additional load and requires the ability to correctly intercept the steering wheel.

On the other hand, when moving at high speed on the steering wheel, zero is clearly traced, as experts say, unexpected light movements with their hands, pits or furrows on asphalt are not able to knock down the car from the course. SLK stands on the highway firmly, and such troubles as the lateral wind for it is not at all a hindrance. The ability of Rodster to cling to asphalt in the practical absence of body rolls pleases in vihi. Proper settings of suspensions, ideal hanging on the axes and stunning hardness of the body will all like an active driving lover. Well, of course, on guard of security, the ESP electronic stabilization system, acting very correctly and efficiently.

Finally, I will pay tribute to magnificent brakes with ABS, a system of distribution of brake efforts and help with emergency braking Brake Assist. And I’ll also say that with an open top it is better to install a special mesh on the arches of safety, without it, air turbulence in the cabin is very noticeable.
