It was not really believed that the new Mercedes-Benz S 600 Biturbo is capable of laying the speedometer arrow on a mark of 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. But ... it turned out, this is true.

In the Russian representative office of Daimlerchrysler AG, we were waiting for one of the first S 600 Biturbo, brought to our country. Previously, it has been repeatedly to ride Mercedes-Benz S-Class, so we also note on the way to the car that it has almost not changed. For example, the same S 430 4Matic, which we skated in the winter, looked like the same. Distinguished that car from other six hundredth only elongated by 120 mm

To unlock the doors, you need to press the button on the door handle. It is not even required to even take the key from the pocket. The system is called Keyless-Go. The car equipped with it practically does not need to use the key. Catch wells exist, but they are intended only for emergency cases. The engine is also launched by the button. The key is stored either by the driver or his boss of the owner of the car. He should be waiting on the street. Sitting in the back seat you can start.

The salon has also changed little. A leather steering wheel with wooden inserts and a huge cup holder, quite clumsy sticking out of the left side of the right front chair, and perhaps all the differences. TVs, active seats, separate climate control, refrigerators and other luxury attributes in S 600 are present, as before.

Let's look under the hood, where for the time being, the main reason for the meeting with the car lurks. Motor V12 with a capacity of 500 hp solidity itself. It is most part that the false panel covers it, the size of which can be judged by the power of the unit. To accommodate it here, the engineers had to calculate a new subframe and slightly spread the spar.

The engine cannot be called completely new. When designing, the previous engine was taken as a basis and redid the block: it is aluminum, and the heads are cast from a magnesium alloy. For compactness, the operating volume has been reduced, and now it is not 5.8 liters, but 5.5. The main role is played by two turbochargers, allowing to develop the maximum torque into 800 (!) Nm at 1800 min-1. The figure is truly breathtaking. So that the box and gearbox can adequately dispose of this power, they had to be strengthened.

The leg on the brake pedal, with the thumb of the right hand, press the button in the end of the KP selector. A moment, and the motor comes to life. Have you ever heard the tank start? The biturbo is approximately the same. We even drowned it a couple of times to hear the bewitching sound again. On the idle, the engine works almost silently sound insulation.

We leisurely go outside. Hour of the peak, solid turmoil. However, it does not concern us. Smoothly, without hustle and bustle, we are rebuilding from a row to a row on as if pre -prepared places for us. Here someone is trying to stick in front of us, but, seeing a huge carcass in the rear-view mirror, retreats.

However, not all are so kind: I dried on an Evo VI pokes in the rear bumper, trying to squeeze us out of the left row. Well, you will have to teach a guy. We smoothly slow down and pull ourselves to the traffic light so that before the stop line we go to the right, yielding to the insolent lane. While red burns, we observe the corner of the eye as the chaff, already turning on the program, now and then puts it in anticipation of the green. Honestly, from such acceleration we ourselves crazy. Somehow, they somehow went too easily and imperceptibly for three seconds: we didn’t smell along the seat, the retina did not stick to the eye bottom, and after all, after a moment after a jerk, we rushed at a speed of 90 km/h. Where are those overloads that, at starting, experience the pilots of formulas or aircraft, because the dynamics are similar ...

While we were thinking about this, the road flowed into the suburban highway. On the speedometer, a carpet, on the tachometer a thousand?! Yes, for such a car this is not speed, and for such a motor it is not a load. On a good section of the highway they scored 200 km/h, but they did not feel the difference between 200 and 100. Only the feeling arose that everyone around them twice the pace of movement. The maximum speed of the car, limited by electronics, is 250 km/h, and in the untied state 310.

Note that the same engine (with an increased another 50 hp) is installed on Maybach. But if that car is available to units, then hundreds will be the owners of S 600. However, this is not a lot, and therefore everyone interested is now worth considering, where to find extra 170 thousand euros, rather than envy more perspicacious companions. And to envy, believe me, there is something. Moreover, the Biturbo cartoon in the near future will appear on all S 600 that will be delivered to Russia, and then the arms race between the powers will reach the climax.
