But the W221, which debuted in 2005 and is still produced, Russian businessmen appreciated: it has outlined a return to the previous concept, laid down in the legendary W140 (that very six hundred from jokes). This is a large, brutal, aggressive car, however, became familiar in seven years. And besides, he has become much in price. So, the car, which is now new now costs at least 3,500,000 rubles. In a used form, you can buy at the price of a well -equipped family class sedan. Is it not true, tempting to acquire a completely relevant representative model at a similar price? They produce W221 for a long time, and in 2009 an intermediate restyling was carried out, after which all previously produced cars were a little bit, but they were old. Despite this, S-Klasse in any performance is still perceived as an expensive car that requires respect on the road. By tradition, the model was released with two options for the length of the wheelbase. It is not recommended to buy a car with a long base for personal use, since this version is intended for those who travel with a personal driver. There are no special problems with the body: the panels are steadfastly tolerate the onslaught of sand and reagents, the radiators do not end after one winter, and with external electrical equipment the problems, if arise, are far from massive. Passive safety of this machine, as you know, is on top.

The salon is amazing: the magnificent scope even in versions with a short wheelbase, the remarkable equipment of almost any copy (list everything that can be equipped with s-klasse), ideal silence even at high speed, expensive decoration materials, high-quality ergonomics if Briefly, the interior of the latter S-Klasse is hidden in the highest category: a plane, not a car! And all this is combined with decent handling, powerful brakes and decent dynamics. The basic modification is called S300 and has a 3-liter V6 with a capacity of 231 hp.

S320 CDI diesel machine with a 235 hp motor with and a volume of 3 l (now it has an S350 CDI index).

S350 is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6, outstanding 272306 hp. (depending on the year of release).

S400 modification with a hybrid power plant with a total capacity below 300 hp.

S420 CDI has a 4-liter diesel V8 with a capacity of 320 hp. Later, this version was renamed the S450 CDI.

S450 also exists in atmospheric performance: its 4.7-liter engine produces 340 hp.

In the first years of production, the S500 was 388 hp 5.5-liter V8, later a car with the same index received a 4.7-liter engine, which, due to turbocharged, issues 435 hp.

S550 is essentially the same S500, but for the USA.

S63 AMG is also different: if earlier it was a machine with a 6.2-liter atmospheric engine with a capacity of 525 hp, now she has a 5.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 544 hp under the hood.

Against their background, the recently appeared modifications of the S250 CDI (under the hood of a 2.1-liter 204-horsepower diesel) and S300 Bluetec Hybrid (total power of the diesel engine and electric motor 265 hp): both versions in Russia are not presented.

Absolutely reliable engines of this model cannot be called, in particular, the early specimens found problem gears of the timing chain (later eliminated this problem). In addition, all of the same early machines were noted cases of destruction of the intake manifold. The engines of this model are very sensitive to the quality of gasoline: the regular use of surrogate can disable a catalyst (which the car has not one). As experience shows, diesel engines are also demanding on fuel quality. Otherwise, there are no special problems, in particular, with competent care, the turbine serves for a long time.

The 7G-Tronic gearbox is a universally recognized problem place: even a machine with a small mileage can refuse the control unit (and it is expensive). But there are more advanced cases when, say, mechanical parts refuse, such as a hydrotransformer. Perhaps you will not get off with one control unit, and you will have to change the box assembly (and it costs up to 400,000 rubles). The malfunctions begin to make themselves felt with a different run, sometimes after 100,000 km, but it happens, and after 50,000 km. A five-speed checkpoint (installed on versions with 12-cylinder engines) is much more reliable, despite the fact that she has to deal with enormous power.

Like the previous generation car, the weapons of the W221 are elements of pneumatic suspension: with a relatively small run (100,000 km or a little more), a compressor that pumps up the racks will fail, and a little later will come into disrepair and racks themselves. The hydraulic suspension ABC (contributing to the suppression of the rolls) is more durable, but it is not absolutely hostile: over time, the block of valves comes to an end. In case of a malfunction of any of the two types of suspension, the appearance of the car will significantly change (up to the point that the machine will almost draw a belly on asphalt). The steering can also be faulty: the failures of the GUR pumps, as well as the knock in the steering rails, were noted. The brakes cannot be called frankly weak, but the warning of the brake discs, the destruction of the calipers, and the accelerated wear of the brake pads (mainly, though due to the fault of the owners), occurs.

It would seem that the S-Klasse W221 is not the most extensive list of breakdowns (Porsche Cayenne or BMW 7th series of malfunctions is much larger). But, firstly, the elimination of these problems is very expensive. Secondly, the content of this machine, even in the absence of serious defects in principle, is expensive (spare parts are expensive, like service services).
