Test drive Land Rover Range Rover 2013 - NV SUV
Range Rover TDV8 & Range Rover Sportv8
They say wealthy people love diesel engines for a large storage margin. And I think that they just have a complex of Scrooj MacDak. However, the new TDV8 from Land Rover is a completely different fairy tale. This is a huge power that is fully controlled by your right foot. No teenage tricks with turboers or peppy pickups are only confident, boundless traction, ready for your service immediately after turning the ignition key. TDV8 has compact blocks of cylinders from a particularly durable cast iron located at 90. It has eight cylinders, two vagurators, 32 valves and 3.7 liters of working volume. It was jointly developed by Ford and Land Rover engineers, and before it I liked only one diesel engine also very much Landrover TDV6
The new engine is installed on Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. We took both models to the test at once: firstly, so as not to get bored, telling twice about one engine, and secondly, to get the maximum pleasure from our hard work.
You seem to be unfamiliar?
The first we saddled the Range Rover TDV8 Vogue. Someone does not know what is the Range Rover in general? Everything is just in front of us is the most elegant and noble car of those that are the title of SUV by right, and not at the whim of marketers. In addition to excellent off-rock characteristics (reducing gear 1: 3, huge passages of air suspension, a variable clearance, the depth of overcame 500 mm, constant all-wheel drive with the Terrain Response system that simulates the operation of differential locks), it is distinguished by outstanding smoothness and good controllability. Well, the word Vogue in the name simply means the richest package.
Gentlemen, this is a provocation
In fact, our first acquaintance with the Range Rover TDV8 took place at the presentation, on the highway track. Then it was clear to me that the engine was capable of more, but on loops and turns the car is limited by the capabilities of the suspension. It's a shame, huh? But when driving on public roads, on which there are no reverse turns and long arcs of a small radius, everything turned out to be just great: sensitive, accurate steering, small rolls. On this full -sized SUV, I want to smoothly flutter along the lanes, as on a motorcycle. And the winding suburban paths, and the overtaking of cars with a serene smile on the face? You always have an inexhaustible traction supply: already at 1250 rpm, 400 nm to your service, and in the range from 2000 to 2500 rpm, all 640 nm. And even with dynamic driving, a 6-speed ZF machine rarely allows the motor to spin above 2000 rpm. You can imagine this: the speedometer arrow at the mark of 150, the tachometer arrow is 2000, and the car accelerates further as briskly as at 100, 50, and 10 kilometers per hour.
As for the off-road, it is especially pleasant to take the coolest slopes and move the ditches with such a diesel engine: the engine rumbles, the anti-tuxe system crunches comfortably with brake blocks, and the car rushes calmly, with purely British stubbornness. Yes, he would have a bulldozer knife forward and he would simply wander all this crossed terrain, without losing the royal dignity.
What other consumer characteristics are you interested in? Consumption? Everything is not so simple with this. According to the manufacturer, in combined TDV8 mode, consumes 11.3 liters per hundred. I succeeded with an hour of drive in the loaded capital, a hundred kilometers in New Riga and concrete and several kilometers of off-road under 17 liters on an on-board computer. On the way back, with a calmer ride, and only on asphalt, something turned out in the region of 14.5 liters. In my opinion, a very good margin of course with a tank of 105 liters is really considerable. It should be noted the fact that the engine is very quiet: of course, an outside velvety grunt is heard outside, but it no longer gets to the salon. Well, perhaps with very intense acceleration. But what I categorically did not like is the loss of outstanding smoothness. True, in the version of TDV8, the suspension was reconfigured in order to maintain handling and comfort unchanged. Manageability really did not suffer, but the rest is apparently the problem is that the Brembo brakes are put on the Range Rover TDV8 (as well as on the Superchained version). Due to impressive sizes, they are compatible only with wheeled disks with a diameter of 19 inches. As you know, for rubber, the place in the arches in this situation remains a little, and low -profile tires significantly reduce the smoothness of the course.
Feeling of sports
If on some Range Rover and slightly increased rigidity is appropriate, it is on the Range Rover Sportv8. True, with his older brother, only part of the name, the stylistic design of the body and engines are torn. And so in it more from Discovery III, with which he largely shares the aggregate base. However, Sport rides is still tangibly better than disco or ranga. Whether the case is the suspension settings (by the way, it is also in pneumatics), or in a slightly lower weight. But be that as it may, if the big Range Rover with a new turbodiesel is a provocateur, then RR Sport is just a lighter. He has more precisely the steering wheel, even less than the roll, even more acceptance. All this together gives much more than the simple sum of the terms. As a result, we get a car that can charge the owner with adrenaline, but can simply comfortably ride it for several thousand kilometers, which can show the rear lights to many supercrosovers, and then move out of the highway and get dried up where not many SUV risks to stick. But at the same time, he remained friendly to the driver, he should not be curb, break and pull him, he is hot, but adequate. And here's another thing: I’ll tell you a secret that it accelerates not at all faster than Range Rover with the same engine. Just feelings behind the wheel are completely different. However, it is unlikely that anyone will choose between these two Land Rover models they are completely different not only in behavior, but also at a price, in terms of interior decoration, in the internal space. However, the new motor is equally suitable for both.
Yes, and here's another thing: if the development of diesel engines will continue to go in the same direction, spaceships will fly on diesel fuel soon.
