About four years ago, conducting a test drive of the then Elantra, I was struck by her interior on the spot. On the front panel it was possible to count four different shades of green backlight. Since then, Hyundai has noticeably advanced and, due to the aggressive pricing policy, has conquered a significant part of the American market. The new Elantra with a 2.0-liter engine costs in the United States from $ 13,395, a version with an automatic machine is more expensive for exactly 1000. A trip to the New World, where the requirements for cars are similar to Korean, led to the characteristic development of Hyundai engineering and design thought.
The new Elantra is made in a bio -design that visually increases the machine and makes it more solid than it really is. That's just the front bumper, which is located almost at the same level with a radiator grille, seemed kutsy. The complex form of headlights a la Volkswagen, an oval radiator grille and a wavy lateral line with powerful roundings around the front and rear wheel arches found their continuation in the interior. In fact, in combination with a 4-speed automatic, Elantra turned out to be not too Shustro in the city, she is able to compete only with domestic frets and golf-class models with similar motors.
On the highway, a limited selection of gears and a modest working volume are even more affected, although if you do not try to arrange races and be neat with sharp overtaking, the sedan is gradually able to accelerate to 180 km/h along the speedometer.
The last Elantra test was also remembered by the fact that in snowfall the car was shod in regular summer tires, and the handling turned out to be too straightforward. At the entrance to any turn, the hand mechanically reached out to the handbrake to at least somehow overcome insufficient rotation. The new Elantra ended up on the eminent French tires Michelin X-rei North and demonstrated excellent obedience to the sedan famously rolled into the coolest turns. If you overdo it at speed, then Elantra slides out the turn, but before that it makes every effort to fit into the turn. In this machine, you can enjoy driving, the benefit of its controllability is not spoiled by an abundance of electronic collars (our machine in maximum configuration for $ 22,290 is equipped only by ABS, and the ESP stabilization system and anti-testing are available only to a 2.0-liter version). The only thing that is missing for complete driver's happiness is an informative steering with a shorter gear ratio. Make more than three waves from the stop to the stop for the modern car.
On direct roads, which mainly prevail in America, Hyundai flies like an arrow. In the center of the rear seat in the children's chair, a child may conveniently sit, and on the sides of him a reclining grandparents. Elantra will probably remind them of the good old Volga. In a spacious trunk, you can easily place a snowflow and a lot of bags. Its disadvantages include only a narrow opening and the absence of a handle on the inside. And one more thing: just like the Volga, Hyundai is almost impossible to use for the transportation of long -termers. Yes, the backs of the rear seat fold in parts, but the floor is obtained with a large hump, and the opening has small sizes. So for the transportation of skis or snowboarding, you will have to buy a trunk on the roof in any case.
People, as a rule, chose the previous Endra with their heads, not their hearts. Alas, the new Elantra could not advance in this direction, or maybe even took a step back, because the appetites of dealers have seriously increased. After all, the tested version is estimated at 22,290 cu (at the rate of 26.90 rubles for 1 cu), and this is exactly 600 thousand rubles.
If a large family car for suburban voyages is required, then it is better to opt for the Taganrog Sonata. For the same money (596,700 rubles), it is offered with a more powerful 133-horsepower 2.0-liter engine and has a significantly more spacious interior and a similar set of options. When choosing a family car for the city and not frequent distant voyages, it is better to pay attention to compactwaps, say, Hyundai Matrix.
